It’s not from the boy’s point of view but from a third person’s, the narrator’s. I can see that in the way the cha¬rac¬ters’ feelings and thoughts are described to the readers. Furthermore, I think that the narrator is a sibling to the boy, I base this on line 35, page 1, where the narrator says: “He’d been born late in our parents’ mar¬riage and was much younger than she was”. “Our parents” means that they are also the narrator’s parents. This short story starts with an introduction, where the narrator tells “I wanted to do her in”, and later on we get to know that the narrator wants to hurt the woman Ann, who is the boy’s elder sister. They are so focused on the creation of this identity that they forget, or even try to repress, their real identity and roots.
