Exam week at high schools and universities across the land is the culmination of the semester. These exams serve as an assessment of how well the student learned the material for the course; yet, they frequently are inaccurate. This week of exams is often spent cramming, consuming dangerous amounts of caffeine, and abusing drugs for ADD and ADHD. Teachers who discourage cramming are correct – students will not adequately learn the material through it. A simple solution can be created by slightly changing the system. In an ideal world, grades would not even be assigned. Learning would center on a small group of students discussing the core concepts directly with a professor in an open forum. Unfortunately, our society requires a methodology to differentiate students from one another for college admission and later for internship/job placement. To make this possible, grades should best reflect the aptitude of the students. Instead of having one final exam that heavily determines a student’s grade, teachers should space out assessments evenly throughout a semester. These assessments will force the students to absorb the concepts as the semester progresses. While the assessments should play a major role in determining grades, they should not play the only role. Class can still be held like an open forum in the aforementioned example. To encourage attendance, make class participation a component of the grade. By utilizing the open forum method of class, a professor can very accurately assess the knowledge of a student on a subject. This system can also help students feel confident about assessments, since they were able to answer the exact same questions in class. Any student who is willing to give effort is almost guaranteed to learn the subject and to make a good grade in it. While some high school and college students have excellent study skills, many struggle during exam week. It’s clear that the system needs to be changed to help the many who do not benefit from the traditional final exam based system. By abolishing final exams, and adjusting the system to make learning more progressive and interactive, students will have the benefit of more thorough learning and better health.

Assess the Advantages and Disadvantages of Government Intervention to Abolish Monopolies

...There are various ways in which governments can intervene to abolish monopolies. A monopoly can be used in different ways and there are two types of monopoly. A monopoly is a market dominated by one firm whereas a pure monopoly is one firm only in a market, an example of a monopoly would be Microsoft. Governments abolishing monopolies enable firms to compete with one another; this therefore increases businesses and allows more firms in a market. By abolishing monopolies it could increase smaller firms to increase in size, by doing so would create more job applicants leading to less unemployment and by a firm increasing in size, the average total cost per unit to make would decrease. We can demonstrate this by using an average total cost curve. Another advantage would be that monopolies often produce goods and services at a small level and price it high, monopolies can do this because the lack of competitors in the market, so by eliminating the monopoly, the goods and or services will be produced at a high quantity and prices will be set lower. Although abolishing a market can have its positives to other, smaller firms but it also comes with disadvantages. With multiple firms in the market both operating at the productively efficient point they become perfect substitutes for one another causing firms to lower their prices in order to compete with the other firms. By doing this they hope to achieve an incentive to the consumer in order for them to consume......

...Final Paper Paul Rosaschi MGT-337 Western International University Final I would like to do my final paper on a great leader; Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president. I believe he was a good leader because he possessed many qualities that qualified him as great leaders here are a few qualities he had: Capacity to Listen to Different Points of View Ability to Learn on the Job Ready Willingness to Share Credit for Success Ready Willingness to Share Blame for Failure Awareness of Own Weaknesses Ability to Control Emotions Know How to Relax and Replenish. Go Out into the Field and Manage Directly Strength to Adhere to Fundamental Goals Ability to Communicate Goals and Vision All these qualities I believe would have translated to any supervisory role he could occupy. While I think the presidency was what he was meant to do, these skills are vital to a successful leader. I am interested in him as a final paper because of everything he accomplished during his life, which was ended too soon. I will write about his success as well as his failures before and during his term.  Abe Lincoln could debate. Think about leaders and think about how they do with pubic speaking. Do we consider George W. as a good leader? No. But he can't speak either. Hitler was horrible man, but why did a whole country follow him. He could speak and articulate ideas......

Abolish the Death Penalty

...Since 1973 over 130 people have been released from death row due to wrongful convictions, and that is only the tip of the iceberg. If you take into account; the multiple decades that many innocent people have sat behind bars awaiting their execution and add in the billions of dollars spent above what non-death penalty cases cost, the benefits of abolishing the death penalty outweighs the risk. Most of those, who oppose abolishing the death penalty, also feel there should be much higher standards for those who are eligible for capital punishment, however, there is no way to increase the maximum penalty for someone after they are convicted of a Capital crime. The most plausible way to prevent wrongful death penalty convictions is to abolish the death penalty completely. If we eliminate capital punishment, then we also eliminate the possibility of potentially taking an innocent life, it will also save millions of dollars every year in almost every state that still uses capital punishment, as well as save the many victims of the death penalty. It doesn't only effect those who are accused of the crime but also their; parents, children, spouses, friends ect. The cost of the death penalty is a major reason it should be abolished. The cost begins with the original trial. Jury selection alone can take over a month and there is extensive questioning about views on the death penalty to look for any bias that may become a factor in how they vote after the trial. They......

Abolish Marriage to Strengthen Marriage: a Symbolic Interactionist Viewpoint

...Marriage is a moral contract between two individuals that choose to share and live their lives by specific beliefs and ideals. A once cherished practice, marriage is progressively losing the meaning and values behind it due to state legal practices. The need to abolish marriage as a legal contract, from a symbolic interactionist perspective, can best be determined by studying the societal changes displayed by today’s high rates of divorce, increased rates of children being born and raised by single parents and state and federal benefits marring the sanctity of marriage. If we remove state mandated control and deregulate marriage, we can in turn strengthen and encourage marriage based on a couples own perspectives and strengthen the quality of family. Early Americans viewed marriage as the staple to a quality family. Men and women found compatible mates they could spend the rest of their lives with, for reasons of love and procreation. They viewed marriage as forever and worked hard to keep their marriages strong. The symbolism behind a strong marriage meant a strong quality family unit. Today, with the tax benefits associated with marriage, it is more of a social contract that is not based on moral obligations, but financial benefits. The Federal tax benefits they give to married couples provide incentive for individuals to get married. This incentive takes the focus away from personal and moral beliefs and persuades an individual to focus on financial reasoning. For......

We Should Abolish Columbus Day

...Nichole Oliver Professor Scott ENG-ENF 3/III April 23, 2016 We Should Abolish Columbus Day Only two federal holidays in the United States bear the name of two specific men, ironically one of them fought racism -- Martin Luther King Jr., and the other was a genocidal racist – Chistopher Columbus. Opposition to Columbus Day (observed on the second Monday of October) has intensified in recent decades, while the former passes each year with relatively little controversy. The issue of if we should still celebrate Columbus Day is widely discussed. The topic remains important because it concerns fundamental moral and economic questions related to the origin of how Christopher Columbus got his recognition. In my essay I will touch on the ongoing debate of if we should erase Columbus Day as one of our federal holidays. As our young minds are still developing and processing information of our history, which hopefully holds an importance to the American citizens of this great nation, there is a poem taught to children about our history. How does the saying go? Ah, yes! In fourteen hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue… We are taught that Columbus is viewed a valiant adventurer that opened up the worlds eyes by discovering the Americas; on the contrary, he is perceived a symbol of slavery and genocide. His trip to America is often claimed as a voyage of bravery in his attempts to discover new lands and did however lead to the permanent colonization, settlement,......
