Thanks Rupansh
Hi everyone, my name is Priyanka and I will lead the debate from here as speaker 2 and will outline some key arguments that will go in favour of our topic. ‘
Firstly let me start by asking you all a question? Why are you all aquiring a post graduate qualification? (Money, success, status in the society? ) So would most of us agree that its success?
As Rupansh mentioned, the difination of success vary from person to person and field to field. Achieving success in life for one person could be something different to what it for the other. Someone may measure success on the grounds of economic sustainablity whereas for others it can be a goal for overcoming challenges, irrespective of what someone earns and the nature of their private life.

So where does Academic Qualification fits in line with success?
Firstly, lets look at the corporate world and the social world. Many will say that success never depends upon grades, but practically when applying for a job, the first thing an employer will look at is your resume to see what qualifications you hold and if you are the right candidate to the position. Here, academic qualification is the first stepping stone to gain entry in to the prospective career. Therefore, it is vital that in corporate and social world, academic qualification is a giant leap towards opportunities in every walk of life.
Secondly, Academic qualification will ensure that you have the basics in learning. Subjects like Maths, Science and Languages allows a person to be able to calculate, innovate and to communicate effectively. These basis are essential for success and cannot be learned without attending schools and colleges. We spend years doing schooling then many of us move ahead studying at colleges and universities only to succeed later in life, building more upon on our abilities and intellectulatiy and this is aswell obtained through academic qualification.

Thirdly, there is alot of empasis on people like Bill Gates and Sir Richard Brandson, being college drop outs and leading a successful life without formal academic education. But how many drop outs tend to become Bill Gates? If everyone was thinking like that then all the drop outs today will be billionaires. Again, Yes they are successful and lead the world today but can you run a country only with them? What about doctors, engineers, lawyers, IT professionals and advocates who obatin a formal education to lead and succeed our society? Success alone doesn’t comes with destiny, academic qualification as a backbone leading towards it.
Finally, as many will say that Academic qualification alone may not be enough to ensure success, however, going to school and colleges and obtaining academic grades are important, as this encourages a student to work harder and master skills and knowledge. These are valuable attributes for success in any field which is why even employers value academic qualification. Simply getting an academic qulalification indicates to a future employer that the student is out of the ordinary.
These are the arguments in favour of our topic. Thank you.

Academic Qualification Is Prerequisite for Success

...ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION: IS PRE- REQUISITE FOR SUCCESS… Amartya Sen, the recipient of the Nobel Prize, the Bharat Ratna Puruskar and so many other prestigious awards, is definitely one of the most treasured Indians. He has brought in, innumerable changes, revolutionized and challenged existing thought patterns and beliefs in economics and related fields. Surely there could be no better illustration of the glory of academic qualification Namskar to this intellectual gathering, the distinguished members of the jury, I, code no- vehemently support the motion – Academic qualification: Is pre-requisite for success. My counter parts may b convincing enough in their efforts of establishing that academic qualification are not the only prerequisite to success……but to their utter dismay I would acknowledge their efforts as totally misguiding. Qualifications are about conforming to standards – standards of knowledge and proficiency, standards of expertise and training, standards that allow one person to be compared t o another. My worthy oponents may argue that academic qualifications can hinder business acumen but friends, this business would not have been possible without the founders’ qualifications. In India, today all the heads of the leading bussiness houses are well proficient in their academic qualification. Ratan Tata, Kumar mangalam Birla, rahul bajaj, mukhesh ambani and many other bussiness tycoons of our country persued their post graduatation from the pretigious global...

Looks vs Academic Qualification

...were out, the novice friend with an average CGPA got the job but the other friend did not did not get the job. Here I want to raise my point “looks” does it really matter in professional life? Now from the above story line if any one comes to the conclusion that good looks get more priority than academic qualifications in professional life, he or she is just coming to the conclusion in a superficial manner. On the other hand you can’t also assume that success only depends on academic qualification because it is a very controversial topic and many believe that success never depends upon only good grades. There point of view is that if success and opportunities were measured by grades then the corporate world would not ask for bio-data in resumes, where other qualifications are also mentioned. Nor would they interview the prospects in order to find out what they are like as people, rather they would give a blind appointment to the people with the best paper qualifications. So they strongly back up the view that qualifications alone are never enough, success depends upon physical characteristics, personality, and a willingness to work hard. Now, to cover up the whole thing we can say academic qualification is rather a guide to help push us in the direction to success. BACKGROUND: You must...

Effect of Broken Home on Student Academic Performances

...socio-economic/family background on students academic performance in tertiary institutions using decision tree algorithms A. B. Adeyemo (Ph.D)1 and S. O. Kuyoro (M.Sc.)2 Department of Computer Science, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria Abstract The causes of the difference in the academic performance of students in tertiary institutions has for a long time been the focus of study among higher education managers, parents, government and researchers. The cause of this differential can be due to intellective, non-intellective factors or both. From studies investigating student performance and related problems it has been determined that academic success is dependent on many factors such as; grades and achievements, personality and expectations, and academic environments. This work uses data mining techniques to investigate the effect of socio-economic or family background on the performance of students using the data from one of the Nigerian tertiary institutions as case study. The analysis was carried out using Decision Tree algorithms. The data comprised of two hundred forty (240) records of students. The academic performance of students was measured by the students’ first year cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Various Decision Tree algorithms were investigated and the algorithm which best models the data was used to generate rule sets which can be used to analyze the effect of the socio-economic background of students on their academic performance. The rules generated can serve...

Chapter 3 Selecting and Using Assessments

...CHAPTER 3 SELECTING AND USING ASSESSMENTS Introduction This chapter will address three issues: (a) the institutional assessment needs of workforce development organizations, (b) the assessment needs of individual youth to help make informed choices about their careers, and (c) the practical needs of practitioners for information about how to select and use different assessment tools. At the end of this chapter, Exhibit 3.1 contains information that can be used to help with the selection and use of assessments, including a directory of commonly used published tests. Meeting Institutional Assessment Needs Agencies and organizations in the workforce system use assessments to meet institutional needs in two ways-to determine a youth's eligibility for services and to document achievement of program goals by assessing the progress of program participants. The number of participants served and achievement of program goals can impact the amount of funding an organization receives. Funding for the youth programs considered in this guide may come from the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, other federal agencies, states, local governmental agencies, or a combination of these. Table 1.2 in Chapter 1 summarizes the eligibility and assessment requirements of IDEA, WIA Title I, and the Rehabilitation Act. More specific information on assessments mandated or permitted by several federal funding sources may be found in Appendix A. (Mandated assessments are...

Victorio, CSP, Managing Partner, Mosaic Family Business Center As companies continue to try to do more with less, the stress of doing the work of two or more people is taking a toll on employees. And that is making them less productive, less motivated and less likely to do their best work, says Ricci Victorio, CSP, managing partner at Mosaic Family Business Center. “As companies deal with lower budgets and tighten their belts, they are putting ever-greater demands on their employees,” says Victorio. “As an employer, you need to help your employees fill their cups back up, because they are being significantly drained. Whenever you have people being pushed at absolute top levels performing on all 100 cylinders all of the time, they run out of gas. And when they run out of emotional gas, negative behaviors start springing up.” Smart Business spoke with Victorio about how one-on-one coaching with employees can improve morale and help them work better together as a team. What is the value of executive coaching? It can improve morale and provide an internal vision for employees as they ask: What is my value? Why am I here? What am I doing? How can I do it better?
