There are many different accounting specialties cost accounting, managerial accounting, financial governmental accounting, tax accounting, and many more. Right now I am currently an accounting major as well as business marketing major. Accounting was never my first choice; however when I had taken it in high school I found a small interest in it. Math was always my strongest subject in school and I have also always been well with dealing with money. While taking accounting I learned there is way more to it than just numbers and money. This is just like there are more accounting specialties than I had thought. I am currently 22 years old so what I want to do with my life is still a huge mystery. There are three accounting specialties that have sparked my interest these specialties are accounting clerk, international accounting, and tax accounting. All three of these jobs I have recently learned about and started researching so in my paper I would like to explain to you why these three jobs have caught my attention. The first accounting specialty that I had an interest in is an accounting clerk. The main reason behind this is because I always wanted to work in a bank. Ever since I was about 16 money has always been an interest of mine counting it, managing it, or just dealing with it in general. An accounting clerk is someone who will do all the data entry. They provide bookkeeping and accounting support for their company. An accounting clerk will make sure general ledger accounts stay up to date along with posting all the transactions. Depending on your company and the size of it will depend on how many different journal entries that you do. An accounting clerk must be able to do all this but they must also be able to multi task, dealing with large amounts of paperwork and calculations. An accounting clerk deals with a lot of numbers and money. I wouldn’t say that this would be an easy job for me; however I feel like this type or accounting specialty I could handle. This specialty also requires for a lot of typing I prefer to type over hand writing any day, I personally feel as a computer can organize paperwork, accounting ledgers, bank statements, and many other documents more than if everything was hand written. An accounting clerk also deals with vendors, customers, and employees on a daily basis so social skills and good communications are a big part of the job. Communication to me is a very big deal I highly enjoy talking with people, personally I could not sit at a desk all day and not have people to communicate with I enjoy meeting new people daily. With accounting clerks it all requires this, so if you’re not pleasant or able to communicate with these people do you think they are going to trust you to be able to do the job? Another thing that involves trust with this job as an accounting clerk you see and hear every day the organizations information that needs to be kept confidential and I have always been a person to trust with information similar to that (Scott, Brenda, and Bronwyn Harris. "What Does an Accounting Clerk Do?."). The second accounting specialty that I have an interest in at the moment is international accounting. I have always imagined traveling around the world or just somewhere outside of the USA. International accounting is basically any other accounting specialty but in another country. Like I have explained before I am only 22 years old and about to have my associates in accounting to travel around the world people need someone at a young age with nothing tying them down making them regret taking on this job or wanting to leave and the company has to again find someone else. Today a lot of businesses do business out of the country so they are dealing with different currency. Money has been something of interest to me and to deal with money from the entire world would be the most exciting thing to learn about to me. International accounting can deal with financial, auditing, tax, cost, or managerial accounting. Now out of all of those what I believe would interest me the most I am honestly not sure. Although the basics of each accounting specialty is the same the culture and the rules like for example tax rules are different in Russia versus here. Businesses today and in the future are going to have a harder time avoiding dealing with other countries so they are going to need someone to handle the international accounts. For example financial analysis are going to be different in each country so if you are dealing with another country their financial statements are not going to be like how ours are they have cultures and environmental differences. Although international accounting is rather large and deals with so many accounting specialties it wouldn’t matter to me what kind of accounting I would be doing it would just interest me so much to learn about how other countries deal with accounting rules and regulations compared to us (Holt, Paul . "What Is An International Accountant?."). I would love to while I am doing something that I went to school for I’m learning more about and it’s not the same thing over and over. If I deal with the same thing every day in my life I’m going to become bored and unhappy I need change I need difference and international accounting is just that. The last specialty I find interesting would be tax accounting. I still haven’t taken tax accounting in college yet so I may change my mind but I have always found some interest in all the different laws and regulations that a tax accountant has to deal with. Tax accountants are exactly what the name are accountants dealing with taxes like tax returns and tax planning for future taxable years. With being a tax accountant you have to deal with different tax rates of different cities in the US. The reason I find this so interesting is trying to develop different strategies to help someone for minimizing taxes. Not only is it interesting it’s a challenge because every person that you deal with is going to have different situations so it never stays the same. For example you can have single parents with 1, 2 or more kids you can have married parents with 1, 2, or more kids as well everyone is different so their taxes are going to be different. Taxes are almost like solving a puzzle so it’s a challenge which is something that highly interests me. The other thing that changes is the laws. Laws change every year so you have to keep up to date with them. I was able to interview someone that just started working for a tax business last year. Her name is Kat Angus and she worked for Liberty Tax Service. The first question I asked Kat was if she enjoyed her job. Her response was at times, some days are harder than others and with the different people she has to help not everyone will listen to her or understand what she has to say but for the most part she I happy where she is. Next I asked Kat if this is what she expected she would be doing after she had graduated college. Her response was no, she never had thought she would be working for a tax company after she graduated the opportunity came up for while she was working for her boss at a restaurant he liked her worth ethic and wanted her to worth with him during tax season as well. Next I asked Kat if there were any surprises to the job she had not expected. Her response was yes, there are people that she is trying to help and try to lie to her about their tax information she wouldn’t give me any real life examples because those are her clients and wants to keep them private but she explained people sometimes like to lie and claim other people’s children or a child that doesn’t live with them in order to get more money back. She never expected people to try and be so unethical. The last question I asked Kat was how long she planned on working here and if she would continue doing tax accounting. She told me she would work here until she found something better. Tax accounting really isn’t for her she doesn’t mind it but it’s a little too stressful for her and she would rather do something year round instead of just in tax season. After having this interview I was even more interested in tax being able to deal with people being unethical challenges me because I don’t agree with trying to get away with things like getting more money than someone should and I want to stop that from happening. I have now explained the three accounting specialties that had sparked my interest when researching accounting jobs these specialties are accounting clerk, international accounting, and tax accounting. After reading about a few of these specialties they have just sparked my interest more and I hope that I can work as one of these. Again I am only 22 and still haven’t graduated from college so what I want to be is still up in the air but I will figure out one day at a time.

...Understanding management accounting techniques in the context of organizational change: as strategic business partners with a responsibility to improve operations, management accountants must identify techniques that support incremental change and h elp transform their firm. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Driven by the need for organizational change, management accounting techniques have developed and proliferated at an unprecedented rate in the last few decades. Some critics, however, have charged that the changes are a "reinvention of the wheel" every few years. To put these issues in perspective, let's look at a framework created to illustrate the distinctive nature of these techniques in an organizational change context. The framework considers such factors as user resistance and organizational culture that can influence the applicability and implementation success of the techniques. After tracing the history of management accounting beginning in 1850, accounting scholar Robert S. Kaplan comments, "Despite considerable change in the nature of organizations and the dimensions of competition during the past 60 years, there has been little innovation in the design and implementation of cost accounting and management control systems." (1) All the practices employed by companies and described in management accounting textbooks had apparently been developed by 1925, despite major changes in the nature and operations of organizations. To develop the field of managerial accounting, Kaplan and others...

...Cost & Management Accounting Reporting System -Necessity, Role & Control Framework: An Analysis Management & Cost Accounting Reporting Systems are interwoven in the management processes of all well managed organizations across the globe. The necessity of such reporting systems is going to increase in future as the market-place become highly competitive and organization functions become more complicated and inter-twined. This fact also brings to fore the necessity of a common control framework to monitor this system so that it can contribute effectively and efficiently to the pre-determined organizational goals. One of the most famous is the scandal of Enron, Waste Management, WorldCom, Qwest Communications, Health South Corporation, and then the infamous Bernard L. Madoff Investment scandal. The Medoff Ponzi scheme robbed millions of hard working people of the savings. This is considered to be the largest investment fraud ever committed by one person. This all lead to the new and enhanced accounting standards which is called the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Analyze the new or enhanced standards for all U.S. public company boards, management, and public accounting firms that the SOX required. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (Pub. L. No. 107-204, 116 Stat. 745) is also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor protection Act of 2002 and is simply referred to as SOX. This Federal law was passed in response to many corporate scandals which was mentioned in the abstract (Consulting, 2011). The public trust in accounting standards diminished, and everyone was pulling their money out of their investments which initiated the recession we are currently in. With the implementation of SOX the public is slowly regaining their trust on accounting practices, by simply knowing there is oversight. This wide ranging legislation has established...
