Fashion Industry and Advertisement Have you ever thought about the role of advertising in our lives? We are surrounded by advertisements and commercials. It’s almost everywhere. We see or hear a lot of advertisements on the TV sets, in the newspapers, on the radio. The main aim of advertisers is to attract our attention and then make us purchase a particular product or agree with a particular idea. Advertising is of great importance in our world of competition. It is important for both seller and buyer. Today’s society is based on gaining money and spending it. The media is always there to give us the ideas how to spend our money. Probably one of the important things in our lives is our appearance. We always come across with advertisements that make us rely too much on fashion and the way we look. Advertisements influence the people creating opinions and stereotypes, especially among the youth. Advertising in fashion industry is very wide spread and they use many strategies to make products sell. It is essential for adverts to be eye-catching and stylish because they are in competition with all the other adverts for similar products. One of the ads that I never get tired of is Coco Chanel ads. I came across with Chanel advertisements a lot and all of them are very aye-catching and they hold something mysterious within them. Coco Chanel stated, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different”. Yes, one has to always be different because that is the whole key of being irreplaceable. I am a huge fun of Coco Chanel and I always admired her. Coco Chanel, the persona known for her royal lovers, later becomes her own best advertisement. In addition to her trademark suits and little black dresses, fashion designer Coco Chanel creates timeless designs that still remain on top of the fashion industry today. She was a respected designer known for her simple, yet very classy designs. The clothes she created changed the way women looked and how they looked at themselves. Coco Chanel’s legacy is legendary, so was the public persona she constructed and promoted. Its ads typically contain young, beautiful women in classy and fabulous clothing with some sort of shadowy sexual power. The first thing that is noticed about Chanel adverts is the color. The main two colors of Chanel are black and white. It is very contrasting with the black and white, and gives a big impact to the audience. One of the advertisements that caught my attention was an ad with two short hair women wearing beautiful white suits and looking at the same direction. They appear to be sophisticated and dressed in formal apparel, thus giving the assumption that they are of high class. The ad evokes emotions of curiosity, dreaminess, and a feeling of detachment from reality. Consequently, the ad possesses a persona of elegance and formality. One of the women is African American who is standing higher than the White woman which is a sign of not being less than any other one. Even though they are both dressed the same way, the second woman wants to show that she is superior. The composition of the ad is such that the viewer's eye is first drawn to the image of the fantastical, unknown distance that two women are gazing at. The use of black and white makes the image seem less cluttered, less realistic, and more timeless. If the black and white images were in color, most of the mystery and the nostalgic quality of the ad would be lost.

...day with advertisements of images and descriptions of what the perfect body needs to be. We're asked to compare ourselves to them, noticing how we don't measure up, which causes extreme anxiety. But, what really is beauty? Why has there been a set standard for how you must look? Media has truly ruined the minds of women by creating an image that is impossible to attain. Women all around the world spend thousands of dollars to temporarily cover their own beauty. This is where the question “Why do you wear makeup?” comes into play. Some women wear makeup for themselves, and some wear it for others. However, even that does not play too much of an influence. It all comes down to who is influencing you to destroy your own beauty. A little makeup here and there does not do enough for some women, but the cosmetology industry seems like it is out to get women. “Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline” is a phrase you hear in every Maybelline commercial, but have you ever stopped to think about it? Yes, maybe she was born with it, but chances are it is Maybelline; it is as if the cosmetic industry is mocking natural beauty. Their ads show girls that don’t even have pores making anyone who reads it feel as if their skin isn’t good enough. In these Maybelline commercials, they have tall, skinny, flawless models. They always do a close up with the camera and there are no blemishes on their faces whatsoever, because it is an advertisement for makeup. These advertisements for Maybelline...

...students Advertising Changes Advertisements are carefully designed so that each element helps sell a product. For example, a 1952 Maybelline makeup advertisement and a 2009 Max Factor makeup advertisement both used specific elements in ways designed to reach their audiences. The 1952 advertisement and the 2009 advertisement attempted to reach differing audiences through the use of text, positioning, and models. The 1952 advertisement contains a small text, a before and after picture of a female model, and a large headline. The small text shows that people, in this case women, liked to find out for themselves what was being advertised through reading. The before and after picture of the female model the advertisement has is much bigger than the text. This lets us know that people might have liked to be informed through pictures as well, meaning they liked to see the differences the products being advertised made. The 2009 advertisement displays a slightly larger text than the one of 1952, a picture of female model wearing the makeup being advertised, and a large headline too. Due to the text being slightly larger than the one of 1952, we can see that people from nowadays still enjoy reading. The makeup being worn by the models hasn’t changed, women still like to see what the product looks like being worn. The picture of the female model in the 1952 advertisement is very simple and placed as the background of the advertisement. The model is just looking...
