Abstract
This study examines the structure and influences of Aeromonas Hydrophila, as a stand-alone bacterium and as it contribute to Necrotizing Fasciitis. Aeromonas Hydrophila impacts both aquatic life and humans, although the infection is not commonly known. This study examines those influences and explores medical case studies where individuals experienced illness, amputation, and even death.

As the summer months begin to elevate the mercury level, nature’s creeks and streams provide cooling entertainment from the elements. People have long used these waterways for recreation activities, such as fishing, walking, swimming, and canoeing; unsuspecting of the dangers. Most bacteria are harmless, but certain types can cause complications and disease. The flesh eating bacteria Aeromonas Hydrophila, can create unthinkable devastation through minor cuts and scratches; causing sickness, amputation, and even death.

The world has thousands of micro-living organisms called bacteria, these unicellular microorganisms have cell walls, but no structured nucleus, some of these microorganisms can cause disease (Hogan, 2005). Thousands of bacteria inhibit our environment every day, many of them unidentified but not all of them are unhealthy. Bacterial cells consist of shapes; spherical, rodlike, spiral, helical, and comm-shaped (Lerner, 2005). The unique shapes of bacteria create classifications used for identification. Gram staining is another tool used for identification; originated by a German bacteriologist named Robert Koch (1843-1910). Symptoms may develop quickly, sometimes as soon as 24 hours after a minor skin injury. The rapid onset of symptoms that occurs is a very important clue that you may need to seek medical attention. [15, 16] Type II: This form of NF is the less commonly found which is usually caused by only a single type of bacteria. A very severe and usually deadly form of necrotizing soft tissue infection is due to Streptococcus pyogenes, which is sometimes called "flesh-eating bacteria." Group A Streptococcus are either present alone or in conjunction with S. aureus. [16] Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) which is usually community acquired has also been found to cause Type II NF. This type of infection is often linked with toxic shock syndrome. [16] Few other bacterial species such as Aeromonas hydrophila cause NF after being exposed to freshwater, Streptococcus iniae from contact with aqua cultured fish. Butchers, clam handlers and veterinarians have been found to be a source for Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae which also causes NF. [17] Type III: This type of NF is the least commonly found. The causative agent for this type of NF has not been completely verified. In some cases V. vulnificus, associated with seawater exposure, has been found to be the cause of NF which has been debated to be caused by clostridial myonecrosis. The high-risk groups include chronically ill individuals, children with chicken pox, alcoholics, drug abusers, diabetics, elderly people, obese people, women who have C-sections and people with peripheral vascular disease (National Necrotizing Fasciitis Foundation, 2014).
