Affecting Change Paper Most leaders will endeavor into affecting change in an organization at some point in their career. Knowledge and application of leadership styles, organizational structure, culture, power and politics can ease the difficult task of affecting change in an organization. This paper will touch on the Smith and Falmouth’s scenario of change and incorporate topics on organizational structure and culture in affecting change in the organization through restructuring and change in management practices.
Smith and Falmouth Company Smith and Falmouth is a mid-size tele-shopping and mail order network based in the US and Canada. Recently, they have started an e-tailing division. The division is crucial to Smith and Falmouth’s growth strategy over the next three years. The CEO put in place a web development team, a logistics team, and a marketing manager to coordinate marketing and logistics operations with the parent company. Prior to this, operations were handled by the Project Manager together with his six-member web development team. The Project Manager worked closely with the Logistics Manager and his three-member team who manage order handling, customer support, and delivery operations. The close coordination between the teams has already yielded good results. The CEO then recruited a Chief Operating Officer who would consolidate operations, streamline the online operations, increase the reach of the Online Sales Channel, and make Smith and Falmouth Online a profitable strategic business unit. Getting into the organizational structure and culture wasn’t easy for the COO. He sensed some resentment and realized that it’s probably due to a shift in the level of organizational hierarchy. The COO then realized that for him to influence the group, he had to win over the decision-makers within the informal groups. He spent time observing the groups,...

Social Security

...Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. It is meant to provide financial aid to those of “old age” and the disabled. This is the topic I am going to be discussing because it is going to be affecting our generation by the time we could be receiving the benefits that are included with Social Security. I chose this topic because while I am paying for Social Security of others, it is on the path to be out of money by around 2035, which will mean that people ages 18-25 will not be receiving this. We are paying for older generations’ Social Security money, but we will not be getting any. The topic of Social Security is important because of how much it is being overlooked. Awareness needs to be raised because the funds will not be able to provide us with our benefits when we need them years from now. By writing this paper I will be able to further explain what is happening with our money and why we are in such a crisis with it. Not everyone is aware of what the government is really doing with the money being put into this fund because they are not always honest. This information gathered will be helping everyone including the people paying now, the people paying later, and everyone that should be receiving these benefits now and later on in their life. The problem with Social Security will be affecting everyone throughout the United States by an estimated 2035. The problem is currently stemming from the government and their mismanaging of our money that we are putting into this......

Research Proposal

...Research Proposal Proposal for Research Topic The topic that I chose to research about is how technology is affecting people and how they interact with one another. More specifically though, I want to focus on the younger generation and children, and how their engulfment in the digital world is seriously affecting their physical relationships with family and friends. Now, to focus on children, family, friends, and how they are all being affected by the new and coming digital life is a decently broad topic. So, to limit my topic I will look closely at what questions and answers I can ask in regards to each of the above areas of research, and develop a tentative thesis. The preliminary research that I’ve conducted so far includes three articles; “How our digital devices are affecting our personal relationships”, “Children, technology, problems, and preferences”, and “Kids really are different these days”. The first of the three, entitled “How our digital devices are affecting our personal relationships”, brings to attention the fact that everyone nowadays is getting really caught up in recent technologies, and it goes on to discuss how such a strong involvement in technology is negatively affecting our personal relationships. Furthermore, the article mentions how the presence of cell phones reduces many vital factors in maintaining strong relationships with friends and family, including trust, closeness, and empathy. The second article, entitled “Children, technology,......

...Customers, future Customers The most important stakeholders of your business are your current clients and future clients. The current business process and challenges are affecting them as below: Clients provide copy of their supporting documents such as passport to the office. But since the office stores these documents on location which is accessible to that office only, when needed, other office often ask same documents again from the client. This could affect the client satisfaction. At the time of travel, employees often need updated documents and since they do not have quick access to those documents, they ask customers which makes customers unhappy because same information is asked many times. Sometimes Customers make change in their travel plan or update details they had provided initially. They inform one office about their change in plan. But since the latest details are not communicated to all concerned employees, employees often use outdated details to make business. Customers might provide reviews online about lack of coordination among offices which might affect future customers even though actual travel service was outstanding. Some of your competitors are already ahead in technology use which could give them a competitive advantages. Employees Office sometimes need to get updated documents from multiple offices and collate upon receipt. Xerox Case Study

...Company Case XEROX: adapting to the turbulent marketing environment Question 1 Micro environmental factors affecting XEROX: First, “the change” was one important factor affecting XEROX performance at late 1990’s. In this period Xerox failed to adapt itself to the rapidly changing marketing environment. Thus, customers stopped being dependant on the company’s leading products like “stand-alone copiers” to share their documents. The machines by which they could scan documents and customize them were what they needed and wanted. Second, “the competitors” such as IBM, etc. were another factor affecting the company. These companies used to provide more sophisticated document management solutions. And the company also had a very weak PR or customer relation management. Question 2 Macro environmental factors affecting XEROX: First, “the great recession” which depressed the company’s core printing and copying equipments and services severely. And it resulted in tumbling down the sales amount and stock price in the market once again. Second, “the globalization” was the another factor that it made the world become one global village and customers started travelling around the world more frequently. Thus customers found the size and weight of stand-alone copier so difficult to carry with them and also it did not make sense to purchase another copier in anywhere they go. Question 3 The answer of our group is YES Because, the company made the best strategy by focusing on......

Organizational Change Process

...Organizational Change Process: The EMR in Health Care Settings In the past decade, new advances in technology have changed health care. Experts continue to speculate that information technology has and will play a key role in efficiency, costs, and quality of patient care (Mehlman, 2010). With these changes comes the demand for hospitals to keep up with the times. In January 2009 President Barack Obama spoke about the government’s recent stimulus package and drive to have Americans’ health records electronic “within the next five years in order to save both dollars and lives” (Childs, Chang, & Grayson, 2009, para. 2).The “meaningful” use of electronic medical records promises to improve processes, decrease errors, and extend far beyond cost savings for the hospital, physicians, nurses, and the patients. Transforming a paper-based system into an electronic health- record application will allow real-time patient information to pass through multiple sources faster, enhance communication throughout the hospital into the community, and provide fiscally responsible care with the click of a mouse. Updating to an electronic form of medical records storage has been proven to be more economical and efficient. However, organizations are often met with resistance when moving forward with plans to transition without adequately preparing the employees of the organization. Whenever a breakdown in the communication between the administrators and staff members has occurred, a barrier to......

...Analysis In this paper, Team A is participating in a strategic planning group creating a new product at General Motors. The following is a competitive market analysis on the potential of our new 2016 Chevy Volt’s success. We will be focusing on our competitor Toyota and their Prius lineup. Additionally, we will summarize our target consumer and current market conditions. Then we will cover variables that weigh on supply, demand, and equilibrium prices. Next, we will consider the pros and cons our firm faces while identifying the effect on our competitiveness and long-term profitability. Then, we will evaluate factors that influence fixed and variable costs. Lastly, we will provide recommendations on how GM can grow their profits and increase their competiveness. The Product The Chevy Volt was a concept designed by Bob Lutz Jon Lauckner of General Motors ‘GM’ in 2006 to overcome many of the limitations of pure electric vehicles while retaining many of the beneficial elements. The purpose of this car was to leap-frog the technology of the Prius hybrid. The theory of this concept was a car that would be able to drive on electricity for the first forty miles, and then a generator would run gasoline to extend the range of the car. In 2010, the production version was able to achieve 35 miles on electric and average 37 miles per gallon for an additional 342 miles (King, 2013, p. 1). This fall the second-generation Volt will go on sale with some notable changes. Most impressive......
