For several years now the competition for the fastest processor has been going on between several companies including Motorola, Intel and AMD. AMD has made a gigantic leap to design the 0.13 Micron 64 Bit processor with a front side bus which is the large main highway between the processor and the ram. That data transfers between at 1.5 GHz and the processor main frequency 2000 MHz compared to Intel's 3200 MHz. This may not sound like a lot, but the megahertz is only a measure of how fast a processor oscillates, The AMD Opteron chip uses hyper transport technology, it is a high speed, low latency point to point link to increase the communication on the board where everything happens, so networking, telecommunications, and gaming goes 48 times faster. Intel has something called Hyperthreading which is practically the same thing. Even though AMD had difficulty with their first 64-bit chips all the problems aren't given solutions yet.
Benchmarks released prior to the release of the processor proved that AMD 64 processors are much faster, because of the L2 cache they have, this allows it to communicate with the RAM much faster and more memory means the processor will process in a faster rate. The L2 cache contains both instruction and data stream information. It is organized as 16 way direction.
The L2 cache data and tag store is protected with ECC. When a given cache line in the L2 Cache contains instruction stream information; the ECC bits associated with the given line are used to store the branch prediction information... Everyone that is interested in computer world would be greatly affected by this processor because of it's remarkably speed. Not only this will make peoples life simpler but it would also make the skeptic people satisfied because it will lower the price in competing processors. The other processing companies feel like they need to sell every processor they would have on the market and design similar processors that AMD has. Businesses all over the world will have a dramatic effect everything will run more reliable and less clutter. Their dual server processors will allow a days work become a few hours of work because the way the processor will run so smooth allowing the cache not to crash the system.
Gamers will benefit from this invention also Hypertransport allows networking communications to increase, this doesn't mean your internet connection will go faster but it would receive all the date much faster causing less clutter and less lag. The AMD Athlon 64 FX processor includes a 16-bit HyperTransport technology interface capable of operating up to 1600 mega-transfers per second with a resulting bandwidth of up to 6.4 Gbytes. The AMD Athlon 64 FX processor supports HyperTransport technology fast clocking mode. In gaming there are several processes going on and on a processor like Intel something that is going 1 at a time would cause too much clutter and more latency.
This means this allows the Video Card to render all the graphics much faster. Even though the graphic cards usually have their own GPU which is almost like a Computer Processor they are dedicated in creating the images. The computer processor would distribute everything the video card is processing at a much faster rate, which allows smoother game play. Another factor is the motherboard AMD is also releasing a motherboard which has 300 millimeter fabrication. This also allows everything on the board to communicate much faster even though it gets smaller that means it will travel much faster, but smaller doesn't mean its better it all depends on how it is built. The Intel Pentium is referred as the dominant corporation in processing with its high speed but because of their early releases before AMD and advertisements they have through the media they have the ability to brainwash people. Another competitor is Motorola.
Motorola makes a processor for Apple computers who are famous for their G4 processor with L3 cache and .13 micron similar to the AMD then their G5 processor with L2 Cache but with a faster bus with .13 micron. Apple is known as a competitor to AMD because how they advertise to the media. They are actually quite fast, faster than the Intel processors. I would say AMD is almost similar to the G4 and G5 processors but with their inferior designs they lack the ability to run anything with direct X. Direct X is what allows PC users to play video games with beautiful graphics which AMD 64 contributes tremendously, this doesn't mean the G4 or G5 has horrible video it means they cant run as much beautiful games as the pc but when it comes to video editing the apple beats the pc competitor by a lot. That's what they are primarily used for and secure servers but now since the Opteron has been released, AMD will probably take over in business servers.
This invention of .13 doesn't just contribute to the processors but Graphic processors to. ATI and NVIDIA competitors in the video card technology need faster GPU's and since they are primarily designed for the pc for AMD to invent this design it opens the door for ATI and NVIDIA to design .13 Gpus which run beautifully with the Opteron. Another major factor with the opteron is its low heat output because its small design and .13 micron it produces less head which allows businesses who have a lot or rack servers and the room don't have to be freezing temperatures for the servers to be running smoothly. The AMD Athlon 64 FX processor implements the standard x86 machine check architecture so Technicians wouldn't be required to monitor the servers 24/7...
I think that the Opteron is the best processor you can get available on the market. It is the best overall due to benchmark results. The only problem is it's not completely affordable. If you were the type who would definitely like a performance computer that is reliable I would build a system using the AMD 64 bit processor. If you prefer mobile performance the mobile processor of the Athlon64 mobile is out.
If a notebook would have one of these processors in one of them they would perhaps be the best laptop on the market next to any other AMD 64 processors because of the boards designed for it are so small and almost weightless. The AMD Athlon 64 processor is the most advanced PC processor for mobile computing, providing outstanding performance for demanding software applications. The AMD Athlon 64 processor was also designed to enhance mobility, including AMD PowerNow! Technology to deliver performance when needed while helping to extend system battery life. The AMD Athlon 64 processor runs on AMD65 technology, and is the first mobile processor to run 32-bit applications at full speed while
enabling a new generation of powerful 64-bit software applications. With 3DNow Professional technology and support for SSE2, the AMD Athlon 64 processor has more ways to accelerate multimedia applications, enabling outstanding performance when working with music, games, and photography. For a the best experience with high-speed Internet, the mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor combines high-speed memory access and in and out connectivity to make sure that users can take advantage of a wireless network or broadband connection to download MP3s. In the AMD Athlon 64 processor, the front-size bus has been replaced by a dedicated memory bus and a HyperTransport link. The HyperTransport link operates at 1600MHz.
The only way anything can be built faster is that if micron gets smaller I don't think that will be happening anytime soon anyways. I conclude if you can purchase one of these computers with this processor I would do it immediately or as soon as possible don't way until the micron gets smaller because it's not happening soon.
