After High School Research Paper

What are you going to do after high school? That is always the basic question that every high school senior is asked. But, the sad thing is, most of them have no idea. Many think that if students were to start preparing for their future after high school while they are still in grade school, or middle school, then they will be more ready. On the other hand, others think that if you start preparing too early for college, then you may result in a burnout, and then not even want to go to college. I believe that starting while you're in middle school, would be the best option for three main reasons. I believe that it will help students stay on track with their grades, I believe that it will give students the motivation for after high school, and I believe that the students will be less stressed when it does come to their senior year.

To begin, I believe that if students start preparing for college earlier than high school than it will help them get better grades overall. I speak from experience, because if I would have started preparing and knowing what I needed to have in order to get into the colleges I wanted, I wouldn't have messed around with …show more content…
I know that throughout my senior year, I am very stressed, because I have all of my college things to do, and the yelling of my parents to get it all done. This is on top of all of my school work that I already have. If I had had the opportunity to prepare before I was a senior, I would have one-hundred percent taken it. I think some would disagree that no matter when you do your college preparation work, you are going to be stressed, just because it is stressful. But I think that stress could be cut in half or even reduced completely, if kids started preparing earlier than high school, and more importantly, senior

School Environment Analysis

...School Environment Analysis Essay Grand Canyon University: EDA-575 February 8, 2012 School Environment Analysis No school is a utopia. Each presents unique problems and challenges, and with that comes opportunities for change and successes. Many times it takes a giant collaborative effort to bring about change, and there are times where it seems that the challenges are insurmountable. I work in a public inner city high school in Syracuse, NY. There are issues within the school including a high drop-out rate, incidences of bullying, little parent involvement, lack of technology, and old school materials. This high school is in a high poverty area, and the surrounding community is not very active or involved with the school. All of these factors combined with many newer teachers in the school and some new members of the administration lead to a school requiring assistance in many areas. In this essay, I will explain many of the environmental and contextual factors and describe some potential solutions to address these factors. One environmental factor influencing my school is the high rate of poverty in the surrounding area of the school. Students are often unprepared for school with proper materials. Education is not been a major priority for many students since it was not very important to their parents or guardians. If students have a little extra money, they will quickly spend it on snacks on their way to school instead of making sure they are prepared...

Reflective Essay: The Effects Of The Pollution In The Chesapeake Bay

... how to find scholarly, peer reviewed sources, and how to use the Boatwright library website. In public school I was not taught the importance of scholarly work nor how to find it. The only time I was assigned a major research project was in my senior year of high school. I went to one of the specialty schools in the Richmond Public Schools system. Two of the requirements for graduation was the freshman paper and the senior thesis. Looking back, I remember how hard I was struggling in completing my freshmen paper. It was about the effects of the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. The 10 page paper required extensive research with 350 flashcards, 3 drafts, and a class trip to the Chesapeake Bay at the end of...

Grading: 60 points, graded according to the standard rubric. (Note: this paper will also require two or three “checkpoints,” each of which is worth 10 points.) Topic Selection: What do you care about? This is a persuasive research paper, which means you are taking a position on a contemporary issue that you care about and setting out to prove that your position is correct with strong, convincing sources. How many sources? * at least four sources for College Prep students * at least six sources for Honors students Of course, you need to set out to support an idea that is capable and worthy of being supported—not something completely obvious. Factors Affecting Study Habit

... Approved December 17, 2013 www.ala.org/aasl/slr Factors Affecting Students’ Information Literacy as They Transition from High School to College Jana Varlejs, Professor Emerita, Rutgers, 612 S. First Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904, 732846-6850 Eileen Stec, Instruction & Outreach Librarian, Douglass Library, Rutgers, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, 848-932-5009 Hannah Kwon, PhD Student, Rutgers SC&I, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Abstract Despite the considerable attention paid to the need to increase the information literacy of high school students in preparation for the transition to college, poor research skills still seem to be the norm. To gain insight into the problem, library instruction environments of nineteen high schools were explored. The schools were selected based on whether their graduates did well or poorly on information-skills assignments integrated in a required first-year college course. The librarians in the nineteen schools were asked to characterize their working relationships with teachers, estimate their students’ information-literacy achievement, and provide data on their staffing and budgets. Findings suggest that school librarians are seldom in a position to adequately collaborate with teachers and that their opportunities to help students achieve information literacy are limited. Introduction The study reported in this paper was inspired by observations made by students in the Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) program at Rutgers-The...

That’s totally fine -- there are certainly points about which even we had differing views; however, before you decide to ignore these points, it’s well worth taking the time to understand why we included them. Becoming a PhD Student Why Get a PhD? This question is dealt with extensively in other documents, so we will not discuss it in detail here; however, we want to emphasize the importance of asking this question. Getting a PhD will change your career path dramatically. Not only does getting a PhD mean you will spend years in school (with both personal and financial implications), it will also change the type of career you pursue. While we are both happy we got PhDs, it isn’t the right decision for everyone. Before applying to graduate school, you should think hard about whether this is the right path for you. Composition Paper

...My Writing Knowledge While looking over the material for this paper my first thought was I’m hungry. This is probably not a typical thought when trying to prepare an English paper. However, it gave me an interesting thought. Writing a paper is like making a cheeseburger. Aside from my cheeseburger idea I also attended a college preparatory high school and have also taken other English courses while in the Marine Corps. To make a cheeseburger you start off with the bottom bun. This is the introductory paragraph of your paper. The outside bottom of the bun is plain bread which is general, and this is the first sentence of your introductory paragraph. Moving up the bun it becomes more specific by either frying it, adding butter or mayonnaise. You make the rest of the paragraph more specific to lead into the following paragraph. The next paragraph is the first piece of meat. In relation to writing a paper this is your first main topic, a bold statement that the writer is trying to get across to the reader. This paragraph must contain the information gathered from research. Paraphrasing is a good way to incorporate your knowledge and understanding of the research and in doing this it explains the topic to the reader. The third paragraph is the cheese of the cheeseburger. This is a good place to add the details and quotes of the research to the paper. When using quotes you must cite them correctly to give credit to the author. By using facts and statistics it supports the...

Reflection

...there was to know about writing when I came in on my first day, but I was very wrong. My professor assured me that there is much more to writing than just putting words down on paper. Knowing all of this, I have now learned how to improve on my writing skills, how to write better grammatically correct sentences, incorporate quotes and research and give as well as get criticism. When I came into this semester as a freshman I was very confident in the quality of my writing. However, my self-esteem was soon crushed shortly thereafter. Even though my writing skills had been very good compared to my classmates in high school, at the university level they were just average. After hearing about the on average grades students get in professor Elliott’s class, I knew I had a lot of work to do to receive an A on a paper. I had to do something quick to learn how improve on my writing skills. With the help of my teacher, she made us a read a variety of articles that were very interesting, yet also very insightful and helpful at the same time. One article that really stood out to me was called “Engfish.” In high school, teachers tend to get really impressed if you have really big words in a paper, but when you incorporate such large words, you tend to start losing your argument and start talking about nothing. After reading about “Engfish and having these helpful hints my professor threw my way, I...

Experience as a Writer

...Experiences As A Writer My experience as a writer started in high school and is continuing at the present time while I’m in the Army. High school gave me my first real writing experience because I had to actually take the time to come with a thesis statement, write a rough draft, revise, redraft, and turn in a final draft of my paper. Not only did that have to occur you have to conduct research on your paper, site what you researched, and put it all together to make one coherent flow smooth paper. After High school I came straight into the Army as I was taught the Army writing style which means no long and drawn out writing but getting straight to the point. My experiences writing in the Army has to come from writing different types of memorandums, counseling statements, and Non-Commissioned Officers Evaluation Reports. As I progressed through the ranks in the military I had to attend many schools in which writing was a big part of passing the course. Now I am the Head supervisor in my section which means that I spend a lot of time behind a computer and in meetings planning out the unit’s missions. Now my next writing experience is coming from my classes from my instructors at Strayer University on a collegiate level. This is going to be more challenging for me since I haven’t written research papers in twelve years. All I am used to is writing short simple straight to the point memorandums and counseling statements. I am in store for some new learning material and...

...The Benefits Of Having Children Attend Pre School Education Essay Abstract This report covers the benefit of sending children to pre-school before kindergarten. Literature review is used to explore the research existing in this field. It will help us to understand what effect pre-school has on children. Such programs are also discussed in the paper which is conducting training for preschoolers for their development. This paper not only covers that academic aspect but also sheds light on the benefits preschool education has on social and emotional aspects of children's life. After collecting this information, it will be collaborated with the findings of this research paper using different research technique. In the end, the paper will be concluded along with some suggestions. Introduction In this competitive world it is very important to train the children in such a way that they are not left behind. Study shows that with pre-school training, children show much developed skills of learning when they enter kindergarten. If a child is being read to at home, visits museums, learns how to play a game and reads along someone then it is more likely that his/her learning abilities are polished and ready for kindergarten (Stube & Patrick, 2010). Pre-school is a planned program for children before they start their formal education. It deals with the learning ability of a child. Children are trained in such a way that their learning abilities are enhanced. Specified techniques are...
