...My Tutoring Experience When I was in the eighth grade, I received a letter from the Triangle Center asking me to consider being a tutor for younger students in my school. This letter convinced that I should try it. After all, I was getting good grades myself, so maybe I could help someone else to get better grades. Looking back on that day, I am glad that I made that decision. I was not sure what to expect when I started, but it has been quite an experience. The school system has been hit particularly hard by the recession and has been forced to make a long list of cuts to their programs. Most of the programs that have been chosen to be cut are either the art or after school programs, if not both. The effects of these programs being canceled is having a larger effect on the children than most would like to admit to. Some of the negative effects of these programs being canceled are the lack of creative expression and exploration; children who need extra assistance are no longer able to receive it, and an increased chance that children might fall into gangs.
