Many Historical events has left the world thinking, What really has happened? A great example is 9/11, We really don't know the real truth. Yes to some extent the truth can be known, however it may not be 100% accurate, because the more you look deep into knowing the truth, the more you will find yourself getting tangled with new information. This information makes you confused, because you cant seem to know what really took place during that event. I don't think we can really go to far in reliably reconstructing the experiences of the people in history, because we are yet unknown to the real information. However if we were to change we can use the new information, meaning we can research about the event and see if we can use that information to know that something else could have possibly happened. As people say seeing believing so this means you cant really believe everything that is written down in history.
In that book “After the fact” there are many historical events that took place which were quite odd to come to the conclusion of. History in the text is explained as “History is what happened in the past. That statement is the everyday view of the matter. It supposes that historians must return to the past through the surviving records and bring it back to the present to display as what really happened.” This quote explains that the information that the historians have today is not enough to address what has really happened in the past. In order to have the clear picture of what really took place, one has to travel back in time, which is quite impossible. It is not that you cant find out what happened in the history, it is that somewhere it would be a myth and not hundred percent accurate.
These days you cannot believe everything that happens in life unless you see it with your own eyes. They say seeing is believing but that's not always true as it shows in the chapter “

In the chapter "View from the bottom rail" shows two different views from the white and black people. This showed how racism played and still plays a huge part in America history. In the book two different interviewers, interview a person. The first interviewer, interviewed a Ex-slave named Susan Hamlin at 17 Herrietta street. The ex-slave told her everything she went through as a slave. She told her that her master was nice, that he treated all his slave nice. Hamlin told the person how her master treated them fair, how she belong to him and he had to take care of her. Another person interview an ex-slave named Susan Hamilton who was 101 year of age. The response she gave the interview was different from the person who responded to the first. Hamilton told the interviewer that they were whipped. How their master treated them bad. How she would hear men and women scream at night because their mother, father, sister, or brother was being taken away without any warning and sold. She told him all the cruel things that happened to her when she was a slave. People don't understand what went on during and after slavery they would never learn or know what really happened. Many people believed that slavery was a good thing but it wasn't, many people were mistreated, many were taken away from their love ones. People believe everything they think they know about slavery but they don't. Once they read and learn what really went on during and after slavery they would understand slavery in the united states.
After The Fact and writings of Sacks can relate to each other, because in both of the writings people are being interviewed. Sack's method of studying people was by interviewing them and getting to know the history of the subjects. Sacks likes to study the subject very closely to get to know what happens in there daily lives to see why they react in such way. In after the fact you can see that the interviewers like to use the same way of investigating the case and actually see what took place at the scene.
To sum it up, history has helped a lot for shaping the world that we have today. Famous historians have set a example showing that only to know what really happened in the past, we must go back to see what really happened at that time. In my opinion it is not possible to know the hundred percent truth of what really happened back in history, that's why we don't know what really took place.

Silas Deane's After The Fact

...Silas Deane: a foreign name to most students, and even to some historians too. His story isn’t fantastic, and he didn’t contribute a whole lot to the United States’ history. However, despite this, he is a phenomenal example that can be utilized to show the difference between what most believe history to be and the truth of what history actually is. The main point of the prologue to After the Fact: The Art of Historical Detection is more than a mere retelling of the dramatic life of Silas Deane. In fact, this story is actually more of a building block that is strategically used in favor of the argument that history, and historians, are more than “couriers between the past and present” that simply “deliver messages without adding to them.” The story of Silas Deane begins with a brief...

Reconstruction: a Success Only After the Fact

...Reconstruction: A Success Only After the Fact Teresa Gil Reconstruction, the act of putting the country back together after the divisive and bloody Civil War, is the era from the end of the Civil War until 1877. Because so much was at stake and there were so many variations about how Reconstruction should be accomplished, this was a period of enormous conflict. In the South, the primary battle was between the Planters who dominated the South economically, politically, and socially, and former slaves, who wanted legal and political equality and the ability to own land. In the federal government, the Republican Party was dominant, and the most outspoken group within the Republican Party was known as the Radical Republicans. They were the northerners who were most bitter toward the planters and the most dedicated to winning equality for former slaves. In 1865, the Radicals nevertheless came to dominate Congress with their calls for significant political and legal change in the South. One of the central conflicts within the government concerned President Johnson’s unwavering conviction that his methods were the only methods and his refusal to change any of his laws. He tried to take charge of Reconstruction, offering a plan by which the southern states would write new constitutions and re-enter the Union without having to allow political rights to the freedmen. When Johnson’s plan was put into effect, many northerners were disgusted by the results. Former Confederate leaders...

Oedipus Gateway Style Essay

...father’s curse. King Laius, Oedipus’s father, brings upon a curse on himself but also on his own son, Oedipus, even though Oedipus was not born yet. The fact that Oedipus had nothing to do with his own fathers curse exculpates Oedipus from creating his own demise. Oedipus could not control the fact that the curse was going to be fulfilled: “If you cannot be free of the gods, then you cannot be made free” (DOC A). The fact that Oedipus is a human and Apollo a god, shows how powerless the king Oedipus is. The power of Apollo’s ability to manipulate peoples’ thoughts leads Oedipus to make rash decisions and to ignorantly curse himself. The curse that King Laius gives to Oedipus shows how guilty Laius is and not his son. Oedipus does not realize that he is the king’s son and the husband of his own mother. After receiving a prophecy to kill his own father and marry his own mother, Oedipus runs away, and blindly kills the king of Thebes without realizing the fact that he has killed his biological father. Not knowing that he is adopted causes confusion and fear to Oedipus. After receiving such a shocking and unbelievable prophecy Oedipus could not control his own emotions of anger and confusion which led to the killing of King Laius. After the killing of Laius, Oedipus curses the murderer of the king. Because of the fact that Oedipus does not know who is real father is makes Oedipus blindly and foolishly curse...

So when they have "an episode," you can easily set them straight before it escalates to the Broker Dealer / Finra / SEC level (by pulling them out and showing them what they told you in the past). These tools are the most important things every financial planner and/or investment manager should have. They're very inexpensive compared to the benefits, even if you already have financial planning questionnaires. There's going to be much more value with ours, that you can cut and paste to make your own custom financial discovery tools with. Your financial plan case writer will also love you if you get and use these, because it eliminates most all of the data input and rework problems caused by bad note taking, bad handwriting, outdated / duplicate financial statements, bad spreadsheets, and other piles of folders clients give you (correctly thinking that it's your job to make sense of). Hosted by the Tailhook Association ("Association"), the Tailhook Convention was an annual symposium and convention primarily directed at military aviators and held at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada. Navy Lieutenant Paula A. Coughlin, a decorated helicopter pilot, attended the 1991 Tailhook Convention in her capacity as an aide to Rear Admiral John Snyder. After attending a banquet at the Las Vegas Hilton on the evening of Saturday, September 7, 1991, Coughlin returned to her nearby hotel to change out of her military uniform. She then returned to the Las Vegas Hilton to socialize with friends at one of the many convention-related social events at the hotel. Looking for her friends, she entered a third-floor area where several hospitality suites hosted by various Navy squadrons were located. As she started to walk down the hallway--now notoriously known as the "gauntlet"--she was attacked, groped, grabbed, and handled by a...

Latin America After Independence

...America had after independence. In my opinion the two biggest problems that Latin America had after gaining their independence was the huge amount of economic devastation that the wars of independence caused, and the fact that the new republics that were formed after independence were very fragile. After the wars of independence there was a huge amount of economic devastation, the areas that were hit the hardest where the Mexican and Peruvian silver mines. Since most of their shafts were flooded, most of there machinery was destroyed in the process. These mines needed huge injections of capital but there weren’t enough banks in Latin America to provide them with it, and foreign banks weren’t interested in investing with them at all. Another reason for Latin America's huge amount of economic problems was the lack of transportation infrastructure; transportation costs were very high because it was hard for merchants who were trying to sell things to get past the steep mountains and tropical forests. Trade continued to expand but there wasn’t enough capital at the time to build new roads, bridges, railroads, and ports, so Latin American trade never realized its full potential. Rebuilding the government was also very expensive, because they all had to be rebuilt from scratch. The army was already overdeveloped, because their were too many officers and too many salaries to pay which created many conflicts between the armies. Another problem that Latin America had after independence...

I came up with the prediction that if I changed the spark plugs that would make the car start. I than performed an experiment by changing the spark plugs. After changing the spark plugs, the car still wouldn’t start. The fact that the car still wouldn’t start after changing the spark plugs refuted my hypothesis. It set out to prove whether patients who were optimist recovered both physically and psychologically after surgery. To be able to determine those that were optimistic and those that were pessimistic, the researchers had the patients answers questions. The questions were asked six to eight days prior to the surgery. They were question concerning how the patient felt about the surgery, how soon the expected to be back to normal, and what their expectations were. These types of questions were what the researchers used to judge those who were optimistic. The optimist felt good about the surgery and expected a shorter recovery time the pessimist anticipated. The actual physical health of the patients was also documented by the researches. That information was obtained through the patients’ doctors. The second stage of the research question the patients one week after the surgery. They were asked several questions again, this time concerning how they were feeling physically and psychologically. Optimistic patient s felt better in both areas. Pessimist showed a much lower n rate of satisfactory feelings.
