Abstract
This is a comparative analysis and interpretation of two selected short stories: “Nørreport” from 2004 by Katrine Marie Guldager, and “Loose Change” from 2005 by Andrea Levy. We analyse the aspects of the short stories, including how they describe the “big city” and how its citizens behave towards each other, particularly towards those below them on the social ladder. After each individual analysis, we take a closer look to the similarities and difference between the two short stories, along with what image the texts give us of the big city’s influence on human individuals and their relations towards each other. Our conclusion is that it is clear that inhabitants of the big city does not normally help the people who are in need of help, even though they want to lend a hand. The two short stories give us a picture of how the modern big city inhabitant indulges in self-satisfying activities such as coffee drinking and art viewing. To get a broader view in our analysis, we use the book “Litterary History - by side and by width” (loose translation) from 2012 by Barbara Kjær-Hansen and Tinne Serup Bertelsen to help us draw a line from the novels and back to both the time in which they were written, and also to our modern time.
Indledning

Yamani is known as the founder of many of the kingdom’s modern laws and regulations. His article “the Political Competence of Women and Law” he discusses the controversial topic of women participating in public life in Islamic societies. He believes that “men and women are equal in their human value, their social rights, their responsibilities and their subjection to reward and punishment. (pg 171)” He says that when speaking of political competence in Islam we need to distinct it from the western concept. Westerners see political competence it as a right, while in Islam it is seen as action. An action has to be performed while a right does not have to be performed. However a political action in Islam does not have to be performed by every citizen, just by a sufficient amount of citizens so that the others are relieved of it. This action includes women. As long as a woman is educated and is aware of the current politics then he sees here no different from a man. Yamani believes that Islam does not prohibit nor try to minimize the participation of women in...

...Question: Describe the following types of attacks. a) Computer virus A computer virus is a type of malware that, when executed, replicates by inserting copies of itself (possibly modified) into other computer programs, data files, or the boot sector of the hard drive; when this replication succeeds, the affected areas are then said to be "infected". b) Worm A computer worm is a standalone malware computer program that replicates itself in order to spread to other computers.[1] Often, it uses a computer network to spread itself, relying on security failures on the target computer to access it. Unlike a computer virus, it does not need to attach itself to an existing program.[2] Worms almost always cause at least some harm to the network, even if only by consuming bandwidth, whereas viruses almost always corrupt or modify files on a targeted computer. c) Trojan horse A Trojan horse, or Trojan, in computing is a non-self-replicating type of malware program containing malicious code that, when executed, carries out actions determined by the nature of the Trojan, typically causing loss or theft of data, and possible system harm. A Trojan often acts as a backdoor, contacting a controller which can then have unauthorized access to the affected computer.[6] The Trojan and backdoors are not themselves easily detectable, but if they carry out significant computing or communications activity may cause the computer to run noticeably slowly. d) DOS DoS ( denial-of-service...

...May I beg that you will write at once to the mother of this unfortunate woman--to Mrs. Catherick--to ask for her testimony in support of the explanation which I have just offered to you?" I saw Miss Halcombe change colour, and look a little uneasy. Sir Percival's suggestion, politely as it was expressed, appeared to her, as it appeared to me, to point very delicately at the hesitation which her manner had betrayed a moment or two since. I hope, Sir Percival, you don't do me the injustice to suppose that I distrust you," she said quickly. "Certainly not, Miss Halcombe. I make my proposal purely as an act of attention to YOU. Will you excuse my obstinacy if I still venture to press it?" He walked to the writing-table as he spoke, drew a chair to it, and opened the paper case. "Let me beg you to write the note," he said, "as a favour to ME. It need not occupy you more than a few minutes. You have only to ask Mrs. Catherick two questions. First, if her daughter was placed in the Asylum with her knowledge and approval. Secondly, if the share I took in the matter was such as to merit the expression of her gratitude towards myself? Mr. Gilmore's mind is at ease on this unpleasant subject, and your mind is at ease—pray set my mind at ease also by writing the note." "You oblige me to grant your request, Sir Percival, when I would much rather refuse it." With those words Miss Halcombe rose from her place and went to the writing-table. Sir Percival thanked her, handed her a...

Social Media's Role in 2011 Egyptian Revolution

...Social media’s role in 2011 Egyptian revolution Egyptian revolution in 2011 was part of Arab Spring, a series of demonstrations, protests and revolutions. All of those revolts have one thing in common and it is the important role of social media. This essay is going to investigate the social media’s effect on Arab Spring, particularly on the revolution in Egypt. Social media have a great power, because thanks to them, people can share their thoughts in every single minute of their life. Even though there are other ways of communication, social media, such as blogs, Twitter or Facebook, had a great impact on Egyptian revolution in 2011 because people could organize their dissidence fast and could easily share their ideas of the free Egypt. When Hosni Mubarak became a president in 1981, he became suppressing all his opponents. People were not happy, but they were not united in order to oppose Mubarak. Everyone trying to oppose Mubarak without the support of the people put his life and lives of his family into the risk. There was no simple nor easy way to connect with people who shared the same opinion about the government, because having such a discussion at any public place was dangerous at that time. Although it was possible to find people with the same political views, the idea of making any non-violent protest was unrealistic. To make such a protest many people need to join the demonstration, but without internet, people couldn’t share the information about the demonstration...

...Essay of Foresight Safdar Abbas ERP ID - 05973 I grew up on the peaceful side of a bustling city, where people from all corners of Asia, and the world at large, come to live a life of wealth and comfort. Jeddah, my home since birth, is a highly-populated city which is a quiet and dull place to live in. Contradictory as it may seem, this city is different by its social environment. There are no political affairs open to the public and the system is monarchical. If one was to walk around in the afternoon, he/she would know what ‘dead air’ means. Almost everybody, especially the foreigners live private lives and the people enjoy luxury and prosperity. A unique thing about Jeddah is the availability of a number of boards of education which are set up by the embassies of the respective countries. These institutes aim for the betterment of students from both Arab and foreign backgrounds. I had the privilege of attending a school which was known for its growth in academic levels in the Gulf region. The unfortunate part was that the higher education was unfeasible for most students. I spent a very stable childhood and consistently achieved good grades in all subjects. My results were a fallacy I held to prove myself a student of progress and I didn't realize I was wrong until I entered college. My college was one of much higher standards and the students were good in keeping a balance among academics, social and extra-curricular activities. There were events in which a lot of...
