Bat Out of Hell
Meat Loaf
Bat Out of Hell, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), Heaven Can Wait, All Revved Up With No Place To Go, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, Paradise By the Dashboard Light, For Crying Out Loud.

The album I chose to do my report on is Bat out of Hell by Meat Loaf. This album is considered one of the greatest rock albums in history, being one of the five best-selling albums of all time, and I can see why. The genre featured on the recordings is mainly rock. However, there is some orchestra music and other random genres as well. I could hear incredible bass play, booming drums, fast piano play, and a wildly screeching guitar. On top of all those instruments was an amazing booming voice. All of the songs really stuck out to me because they were all so different, so I will recap a few of them. When the first song came on, I immediately recognized it because it is probably the most recognizable Meat Loaf hit, Bat out of Hell. The guitar solo at the beginning, about the first three minutes, was exciting and built up the song very well. Also, the piano accompanying made it sound great. The song is so complex, and just keeps building until the very end. It’s a great rock track. The second track, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), was so unusual by the way it started, with talking and whispering instead of singing. However, it got further into it and was a very catchy tune. Then the third track, Heaven Can Wait, was also very different. There was nice piano playing, and I could also hear strings playing in the background. The coolest part was that it showed a softer side of Meat Loaf’s voice. The fourth track was probably the one I recognized the most behind Bat out Of Hell, All Revved Up With No Place To Go. This was a true rock and roll hit. The awesome saxophone was prominent throughout the song, especially in the solos. Parts of the song were contrasting, and it was neat at the end when the whole song sped up. Finally, the sixth track, Paradise by The Dashboard Light, was really neat. It was broken into three sections. It was like a 50s rock song, but also had some funky jazz. This album was neat in the fact that parts of it were soft, and parts of it were really rocking, good for any mood. The way I could tell this originated from rock music is because it had loud screeching vocals, and wild guitar and piano play. Also, it reminded me of tunes we’ve listened to in class. Every part of the album flowed, and the rhythms and beats were amazing. The songs were very dynamic and the instruments I heard included guitar, bass guitar, piano, saxophone, and strings. Meat Loaf’s vocal range was incredible, and the quality of the album was great. It was recorded in a studio, not live. The balance was good, and I could hear all the instruments clearly. Overall it was a great album.

Rock and Roll Has Lost the Ability to Effect Meaningful Societal Change

...Virginia Watkin Professor Dave Graham Music 118 November 26, 2013 Rock and Roll has Lost the Ability to Effect Meaningful Societal Change Music has often been said to be the universal language. Rock musicians especially learned to use the power of rock music and lyrics to effect powerful changes in society, most particularly in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The early age of Rock and Roll was an exciting time for the musicians, lyricists and the mass of young people who listened to them. While it may be that rock music in all of its genres of today can still prod listeners to champion for social change, the rock music market has fragmented so dramatically that rock and roll has lost the ability to impact mass sections of the population and has therefore, lost its unique voice and ability to effect real social change in US society. The turbulence of the 1960’s, due to the escalation of the conflict in Vietnam to a full out war, the assassination of both President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. and the push for civil rights for all people made for fertile ground for songwriters to encourage change for the better through their music. (Hibbard and Kaleialoha, p 122) Lyricists and composers worked in tandem to write songs to both inform the public and, in some cases, incite the public to take action against what was happening in, around and to the world. Songs such as “Blowin in the Wind, written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and “Ball of Confusion (that’s what the world...

Ethics Essay

...Ethics Essay Michael McPhetrige ETH316 09/19/2013 Mr. David Trammell Ethics Essay In our world, there are many different ways to approach ethics. We all have our different opinions on what ethics are, or as I like to say, our own ethical codes. However, we can relate to other peoples theories. Some theories that can be related to, but are different from each other, are virtue theory, utilitarianism, and deontological ethics. “Utilitarianism is a theory that suggest that an action is morally right when that action produces more total utility for the group than any other alternative” (Boylan, 2009). Basically, utilitarianism looks out for the greater good of the group instead of an individual. This means that if you are a hinder to the group, making a change in yourself or your position to better the group is utilitarianism. I believe this theory is a very good one. It is about putting others before you. The world might be a better place if everyone thought this way. The Virtue theory is based more on an individual’s character. “It takes the viewpoint that in living your life you should try to cultivate excellence in all that you do and all that others do” (Boylan, 2009). Reading this I was thinking about “one hit wonders” in the music industry (especially rappers). In rap music, should someone be considered one of the greats because they made one good song? Or should rappers like Tupac and Eminem be legends because they have had multiple platinum selling albums? Under...

Marrying Absurd Analysis

...not believe the occasion to be sincere nor dream worthy. She has a tone that strikes pity and disdain towards the wedding. Didion underestimates the validity of this marriage based off of the ceremony’s tastefulness, instead of the commitment to one another. Which relegates to the preface where Didion stated, “A writer’s always selling somebody out,” as means for her using her characters to make her point and nothing more. Being a journalist, she had a responsibility to the readers, which was not to force her own version of truth, even when it pertains to being a general concurrence. Although her narratives and essays are social criticisms they are then filled with opinions and individuals she then uses are not valid in the literature world, being that they have a more subjective job as opposed to objective which leads to it not being taken as a truthful image and report on...

Susang G Komen Foundation: Where Does the Money Really Go?

...research. People should be more educated about these two things because there is so many people affected by Breast Cancer. I want my audience to learn about what the Susan G. Komen Foundation is really doing with the money they are donating to the Foundation. To do this, I created three genres of composition. These genres include a photo essay, a brochure, and a poster. I hope to reach my audience in a different way with these compositions than I did with my essay. For my three genres I chose to compose a photo essay, a brochure, and a poster. These are all unique and can reach my audience and have them understand what I am trying to have them understand. Between all of the compositions, I included photos of women who have had mastectomies, pink ribbons, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation logo. I included the mastectomy pictures because I think it is really important for people to see what Breast Cancer physically does to someone. Not many people are open about showing their mastectomy pictures and these women bravely went in front of the camera and showed off their mastectomies whether it was done to one of their breasts or both. The album I found the photos in is called The Scar Project by David Jay. He created this project when a dear friend of his was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I picked...

Social Media In Australia

...Google recognises the importance of Australian content rules for the maintenance and strengthening of a diverse national cultural identity, even if it wishes to debate the best means of achieving such goals (Flynn, 2012). All this speculations acted as a catalyst for the formation of a variety of media policy initiatives by the government, which intended to address the different challenges as well as address the future of media in the context of convergence. Some of those include the Independent Media Inquiry aka Finkelstein Review (QC, 2012); and the Review of the National Classification Scheme undertaken by the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC, 2011), Copyright and the Digital Economy (ALRC, 2014). Financial Report

...Financial Report Essay: For admirers of fine crystal, there is something magical about the name Swarovski. For admires of speed and glamour there is something magical about the name Ferrari or Lamborghini. And, without a shadow of doubt, for the lovers of high technology, innovation and music there is something magical about the name Apple. While ages ago our ancestors were bothered by the question of who came first a chicken or an egg, today the question is different. As the fame and success of Apple company and its products is increasing, the question one may rise is for example: what came first … the iPod or iTunes? In my paper I would like to present the financial report of the iTunes. To begin with I would like to give some background history of the product because even though the product itself is familiar to everyone, some may still wonder of its origin and principle function. As a matter of fact iTunes came first, even though it seems that we started hearing about the iPods much earlier. Before the iPod was released, Mac users had had the ‘iLife’ on their computers. The Ilife also included iTunes version 1.0 – however it looked rather different from the “modern” iPods or itunes. The main difference was that the iLife has a three-note icon and not the double green one which people are familiar with today. So, as we can see, the iTunes was around, for for the Mac only, of course, from January 2001. In April of 2003, a new version of iTunes (4.0) was released. That same...
