Alex Sander’s behaviour can be summed up in the following points:
• He doesn’t give much importance to performance review system as he thinks that the 360̊ performance review system was just a waste of time
• He believed that his temper was the most effective management tool for him because he feels that his anger resulted in the increase of the output of the company employees
• He lacked the quality of being an effective manager as he was incapable of getting work done from others.
• His aggressive nature in the completion of the project and believes that being pushy and commanding is the only way to get the job done.
• Lack of patience in Alex is also one of the major issues as he gets irritated of explaining things to his employees more than a couple of times
• For him the success was only in terms of money as he only looked at the fact the how much more amount of return he has made on his investment

Sam Glass (one of the product group supervisors) has certain issues:
• He considers the 360̊ performance review as an important part and wants Alex to take all the survey seriously
• Glass is also concerned about the working style of Alex because while working in a team he doesn’t work as a team rather he works as an individual and tries to complete all the work on his own
• Besides all flaws that Alex has, Sam Glass still wants to have Alex in his office because of his hard work and his dedication toward the organisation. Plausible Solution
A detailed discussion into Alex Sander’s working has given us a deep insight into his personality. While some of his actions/decisions make him a fine example of a high Mach personality, we make use of these characteristics to determine how we deal in such a situation ensuring success for both Alex and the product group. Further, we discuss on how to improve the 360° process next year and to help Landon develop leadership talent long-term. The plausible solutions are:
1) Alex with his sole focus on product launch does not believe in feedback. Feedback gives a picture of what others think about us and helps understand ways in which we can adjust ourselves to ensure a smooth relationship. Alex needs to realize the importance of feedback, and make changes accordingly.
2) He feels that his temper is an effective management tool to churn out work from his employees. But this is a form of workplace deviance. Employees might work under high stress, leading to dissatisfaction with job. In the long run this would affect both their effectiveness and efficiency. Alex must make sure he keeps a check on his temper and keep a healthy office environment.
3) Alex spearheaded two national skincare projects in a year. While he had an exceptional talent and a keen sense to learn, he lacked the quality of being an effective manager as he was incapable of getting work done from others. Most employees could not cope up with the speed at which Alex works and often felt burnt out. To be a leader, he must understand his employees, put himself in their position, and get a perspective of how they feel. He must be a good motivator as well.
4) In one instance, during a conference, Alex gets aggressive and pushes the German team to commit to a deadline they cannot meet. As a team member, he must be considerate and accommodating, and let others have their say as well. Rather than challenging them to finish their task, Alex should have heard their problem and then taken a fair and rational decision.
Landon’s focus has to be on developing leadership talent. They must make use of the feedback tool in order to get the best out of their employees. The employees were not clear of whether this feedback was being used to help with development or performance appraisal. So the feedback might be less honest or tainted in some cases. Landon must ensure the purpose of the feedback must be stated to the employees. Some employees were not comfortable to express their views in this format. Landon must take into account of these issues and accordingly make changes in the feedback system. Managerial Learning
1. Alex got a bad attitude toward accepting feedback. He refuses that he is not going to waste his time on this 360° feedback. Manager should always be open to feedback. He should have openness to experience. The importance of feedback as a process for enhancing performance cannot be overestimated as feedback has a positive effect on individual, group and organisational performance.
2. Case shows that Alex is a High Mach personality. He used to maintain emotional distance & believes ends can justify means. A person should not be manipulative. He had successfully rebranded two national skin care products last year which brings him two promotion also, but still he is using aggressive tactics toward his new project ‘NOURISH’.
3. Case shows about Alex that he is a kind of one man army. The moment when he showed temper at Betsy Garrison just because she is not on time regarding her project work status. Throwing her out of the project he was ready to work without her. An effective manager should be a motivator & leader. A manager should know how to get work done through other people because you won’t be able to do everything yourself.
4. Alex shows that his temper is his most effective management tool. He also get feedback that he continually ruffles people’s feeling and getting things back on even keel. Anger may not allow an employee to see things with correct perception and is known to fail intelligence of an individual as well as of an organization. Anger at work if not addressed properly can prove to be highly counterproductive. It not only affects the individual’s morale but also others performance and the work environment.
5. Alex always give aggressive deadline to his project workers, also throw them out if they failed to catch up with current status, as he is very efficient & expects others to match up to his efficiency. It can be a factor in poor decision making because under stress we may not think logically or consider the consequences of the choices we make.

While we all experience stress frequently in our daily lives, not everyone handles it in positive ways. The key for us all is to learn what strategies and behaviours help us to cope with stress in a positive manner.
6. Alex as a manager should be familiar with the fact that to move up one needs to co-ordinate people. Therefore to come up as a good motivator & a leader he should know how emotions play into the way people work & how will they perform their job. He doesn’t possesses many soft skills, when it comes to work he doesn’t takes others feelings into consideration.
