Manifesto

...(FGC 2004 alumni) First I want to thank everyone who has taken their time to nominate me to lead this great association. It is something I do not take for granted. Thank you Constitutional Review: Change is so pervasive in our lives that people have concluded that there is nothing as permanent as change itself. So many things in and around us have evolved over time that our existing constitution is overdue for review. We need a document that not only take care of our present situations but is at the same time far-sighted. Gentlemen, the task of moving our Alma mater forward is a great one. I crave your support to be given your mandate without which my ideas cannot see the light of day. With God and your unflinching backing we shall arrive at our Eldorado. Registration & Account Opening: One of the first things I would strive to achieve is that this association is registered according to all the bylaws of Nigeria as regards to alumni associations. I would also make sure that this association has a functional account in the NAME OF THE ASSOCIATION. Functional Membership Database: I recognize that the worldwide web has changed the thinking and orientation of man, and the way and manner we do things. I feel strongly that we must capture the largest possible data of everyone in this 2004 association in order to maximize the power of numerical strength. I will also make sure that there is a 2-way communication between the Secretary and all members, and vice-versa. The alumni directory...

Evaluating Media for Credibility

...Evaluating Media for Credibility Barbara Royal CRT 205 August 2, 2012 Catherine Crowfoot Evaluating Media for Credibility The two television stations I choose to watch are CSPAN and CNN. On CNN the show was called Fareed Zakaria, Fareeds take. Fareed was talking about Africa a lot where they stand, and how they compared to China. To me Fareed was placing his option into everything he talked about. He said that he saw Africa growing fast and they would soon become a middle class country. After he talked about Africa he introduced “The most powerful man in America” no not the president it was Grover Norquist. Grover is trying to pass the GOP pledge to never raise taxes. Grover said “Thousands of people lobby for MORE spending. There are only a handful of groups that fight for LESS.” In my eyes that is not creditable and it seems it is Grover’s opinion. There are no statics based on what he said. This man Grover is trying to pass a no more raising taxes bill which will be great for the Americans. Unfortually he has been trying to pass this for years. When I watched this CNN station on Sunday September 2, 2012 from 1 pm till 2pm Fareed didn’t spend but maybe 10 mins on the Africa issues but he did stick to talking with Grover for the remainder of the show. After CNN I watched CSPAN they were discussing Past Democratic Convention Speeches. When I started watching they just started with Robert F. Kennedy speech, when I started watching at 12:30pm. Opening Skinners Box

...Burrhus Frederic Skinner’s experiment’s changed the psychological world he had open the door for other Psychologist to test his methods . There was a lot of controversy behind skinners experiment, some people were eager to learn more on how the human mind works ,while others protest that people had free will and that they were not being controlled by their environment. Skinner’s theory was broken down into four main components. These components are reinforcement, shaping, schedules of reinforcement, and extinction and punishment each method was tested on rats, in which the animals natural instincts were taking away so they started to rely on the levers and buttons in order to survive in their new environment . Although rats and humans share a common DNA people are very different. Humans possess something that animals do not they have the freedom to go against the crowd and to make a sandwich when they are hungry. Free will is even mentioned in our Huan rights we have the rights.ccording to John Martin Fischer in Four Views On Free Will “ If I breath I am of free will, if I am of military blood then I am of control and if my heart beats I am of determinism”(Martin 85) Fischer is trying to say that no one can control a person because they have a choice to live their unless they are in government controlled country then the government controls them and as long as their heart beats they will be attached to determinism . “…Skinner desired nothing...

Phar Mor Fraud Essay

...1. Explain the Phar-Mor fraud. Phar-Mor was a discount drug retail chain, based in Youngstown, Ohio. It was founded by Michael Monus and David Shapira in 1982. Monus and company’s CFO Patrick Finn moved about 10 million from Phar-Mor to the World Basketball League to cover up losses. The senior management had cumulatively overstated income by $290 million from 1987 to 1991. The fraud made by dumpling the losses into a “bucket account” and then reallocating the sums to one of the company’s hundreds of stores in the form of increases in inventory amount. What is more, Phar-Mor issued fake invoices and made phony journal entries to decrease cost of sales and increase inventory. 2. Explain how the 4 components of the fraud diamond apply to this fraud. Incentive: Monus couldn’t face the situation of his growth-company suddenly going down. Finn believed in Monus’ ability to change things around so he decided to work along with the fraud. Opportunity: Mickey Monus served as the president and chief operating officer of Phar-Mor from its inception until a corporate restructuring was announced on July 28, 1992. Finn was the chief financial officer of Phar-Mor from 1988 to 1992. Finn initially brought Monus the bad news that following a number of years of eroding profits, the company faced millions in losses in 1989. Rationalization: The rationalization was that all the misrepresentation was short-term so that the company could recover losses and make the reported financial statements...

Dr.Whitaker and Food

...Harvey Wiley, Theodore Roosevelt, and the Federal Regulation of Food and Drugs By Anthony Gaughan Food and Drug Law Mr. Peter Barton Hutt Harvard Law School Winter 2004 Introduction In 1906 Congress passed two landmark pieces of legislation: the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act. The acts emerged from the reformist ethos of the Progressive Era, a time when the federal government took on a new and much more active role in the everyday lives of ordinary Americans. Of all the laws passed during the Progressive Era, no legislation proved more successful and more enduring than the 1906 food and drug legislation. The acts established the foundations of modern American food and drug law, and gave birth to the Food and Drug Administration. For the first time, the federal government assumed permanent and comprehensive responsibility for the health and safety of the American food and drug supply. Although the statutes have been revised many times since 1906, the essence of modern food and drug law remains consistent with the principles of federal responsibility for consumer safety that underlay the first statutes a century ago. The passage of the 1906 food and drug legislation stemmed from the actions of many people across the political landscape, ranging from Senator Albert Beveridge to socialist writer Upton Sinclair. But no indi- 1 viduals played a larger public role in the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act than Theodore...

Theory Y and Whole Foods

...In 1960, Douglas McGregor wrote a book and formulated two contrasting assumptions about the importance of work attitudes and behaviors on performance. McGregor theorized that the way employers’ treat and value their employees would determine their actions and values, and drive how they performed on the job (Chertis & Mujtaba, 2014). Theory X was an outdated, pessimistic view and viewed all workers in a negative way. Theory Y, on the other hand, was a more modern, positive assumption. McGregor believed that a manager could accomplish more through others by viewing them as self-energized, committed, responsible and creative beings (Kreitner & Kinicki, p. 9). McGregor’s Theory Y plays a role in the way that John Mackey, co-founder and co-CEO of Whole Food Markets runs his business. McGregor theorized that people would become committed to organizational objectives if they were rewarded for doing so. Mackey believes similarly. He believes that it is the manager’s job to seek out and hire the most appropriate person for the job. He believes that if you train them well that they will be happy in the workplace and will provide better customer service as a result. He believes that happy employees make for happy customers and happy customers make referrals to other people, which make happy investors (Kreitner & Kinicki, p. 30). Mackey didn’t emulate McGregor’s Theory Y completely. He came up with his own philosophy and called it conscious capitalism (Chertis & Muitaba, 2014)...

What Is A Sewing Machine In Tim Gautreaux's The Safe

...Everyone makes the mistake of judging items by their appearance or reputation and not taking the time to look beneath the surface. In “The Safe” by Tim Gautreaux, the traditional image of the dirty junkyard is contradicted by the magic of the special sewing machine. In the junkyard there is a sewing machine made with a very artistic hand which inspires Snyder to change his profession. It helps to bring out hidden characteristics that the workers of the junkyard, including Snyder possess. The attractiveness of the sewing machine forces Alva, the junkyard owner, to realize that he is surrounded by a beautiful family and his work. The complex design in something simple like the sewing machine causes Alva to add more elements to his businesses and his wife create her own business alongside him. The artfulness, beauty, and complex design of the sewing machine change the image of the junkyard by inspiring Snyder to follow his dreams, by inspiring Alva to take pride in his family relationships, and by inspiring both Alva and his wife to develop and grow their individual businesses. The sewing machine changes Snyder through the beautiful artwork displayed on its surface, which is clearly made by an artistic person. Snyder decides to change his profession from a junkyard worker to a preacher. The sewing machine fascinated everyone when they first saw it, “The main body was gold plated, indeed rising like a tree trunk and then leaning into an arch that ended in the machine’s head, a flattened...

...Alfred, Lord Tennyson - Biography Alfred Tennyson was born 6 August 1809, at Somersby, Lincolnshire. His initial education was conducted largely by his clergyman father, Dr. George Clayton Tennyson. The boy showed an early interest and talent in poetic composition, working original poems in a variety of meters. In 1827 Tennyson followed his two older brothers to Trinity College, Cambridge, where his tutor was William Whewell. While there he wrote a spirited blank-verse poem, "Timbuctoo" (1829), for which he received a prize, and published his first book on his own, Poems, Chiefly Lyrical (1830), which includes "Mariana". In 1831, following the death of his father, Tennyson left Cambridge without taking a degree. The success of his 1842 Poems made Tennyson a popular poet, and in 1845 he received a Civil List (government) pension of £200 a year. In 1850 he married Emily Sarah Sellwood, whom he had been waiting to marry since 1836. Enormously popular, he was appointed poet laureate of Great Britain the same year, succeeding William Wordsworth in this honour. By now Tennyson had written some of his greatest poetry, but he continued to write and to gain in popularity. In 1853 Prince Albert paid a visit to the Tennysons. His admiration for Tennyson's poetry helped solidify his position as the national poet, and Tennyson returned the favour by dedicating "The Idylls of the King" to his memory. Queen Victoria later summoned him to court several times, and at her insistence he...

Mr. Grays Eniglish Paper

...Katie Winslett Prof. Davis EH 101-15 Essay 6- Revision of Essay 5 November 12, 2012 Whether Americans agree to it or not, peace is a controversial subject. Peace is defined as a state of mutual harmony between people or groups, especially in personal relations. When America is attacked do we as Americans stand behind the urge to retaliate? Mitt Romney is a firm believer in peace and goes great lengths into explaining why, and deflates many testosterone-raging American’s hopes at war. In “Give Peace a Chance”, Kathleen Parker, the author of this editorial, voices her opinions on the argument between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Kathleen Parker puts large emphasis on Mitt Romney’s usage of the word “peace.” The entire point of Romney’s argument is to promote peace, and she does not allow this to go unnoticed. Parker states several examples of how he handles the heat from his opponent Obama, and clearly sides with Romney in almost every aspect. She says in paragraph three that Romney proceeds to project that he strives to be known as “the stalwart of America’s power to promote peace and freedom through strength, character and an unyielding defense of American principles.” He undermines exceptionalism in America without directly addressing it. Romney speaks highly of our country and states that America has a large role in leading the world. He also wishes to help set oppressive governments straight and without peace, it is undoable. Romney and Obama go head to head...
