Amanda Knox is a young adult that went to Italy for school. She only knew a handful of people. Knox

lived with Meredith Kercher in a house they were renting. She and Raffaele Sollecito, they both were

convicted of the murder of Kercher in 2009. Amanda Knox is not guilty.

Knox spent four years in an Italian prison for the murder of Meredith Kercher. Meredith Kercher

is a British student that lived with Amanda Knox. Amanda’s finger, or foot prints were nowhere to be

found anywhere in the apartment. Knox’s boyfriend, Raffaele’s, DNA was found on Kercher’s bra clasp. It

stayed in the floor of the apartment for six weeks before blood evidence was found on it. She gave

verifying accounts to the police of what she did before …show more content…
She went back to her apartment to take a shower and notices that the door was cracked

and that there were more strange things. She goes back to her boyfriend’s house and they both go back

to her apartment to check things out and it seemed to be a break-in. they call the police and they

discover the body. So answer this, how could it have been her and her boyfriend if they were at his

house the night of the murder?

Does anyone actually know what happened the night of the murder? Some people would love to

think that they know everything that happened, but they do not. Knox is not guilty because, there is no

supporting evidence that she did it, yes, her boyfriend’s fingerprints were on Kercher’s bra clasp, but

that doesn’t mean that he did it either. Amanda Knox was trialed around three times but they could not

complete the case because, of the lack of evidence. Rudy Guede’s DNA was found all over the

apartment, but the police think that he did not act alone. That still does not mean Amanda murdered

Kercher. As her stepfather, Chris Mellas, says, "She's the smartest person you'd ever know" but "dumb

as a rock" when it comes to "street sense." When it comes to “street smarts” some people do not

Crime Scene Management

...Discuss the importance of good crime scene management and the maintenance of sample integrity. This paper will firstly define the five building blocks, procedures and protocols that underpin good crime scene management. Secondly, the paper will argue the two most important factors that enable good crime scene management and sample integrity with reference to the highly publicised cases of OJ Simpson and Amanda Knox. Thirdly the paper will conclude to explain how good crime scene management and sample integrity is essential to enable successful convictions. A ‘crime scene’, refers to the primary or secondary area in which a suspected crime has taken place where physical evidence can be obtained. Such areas include indoor or outdoor locations, vehicles or persons as noted by Jackson and Jackson (2011). Upon identifying a crime scene one is presented with a myriad of information and questions. In order to obtain the answers and evidence the crime scene presents that may lead to a successful future conviction(s), there are a number of important principals, procedures and methods that must be stringently followed and managed by the police’s criminal investigative team. As Jackson and Jackson (2011, p.15) has noted, “The way in which scenes of crime are managed and recorded, and how the physical and digital evidence is located, collected, packaged, labelled and stored, are all fundamental to the success of subsequent forensic examinations.” The main objective of the crime...

Do Not Cite or Quote Without Permission E-MARRIAGE: BREAKING THE MARRIAGE MONOPOLY Adam Candeub and Mae Kuykendall ∗ ABSTRACT: This Article advocates updating the law governing marriage formation to recognize the shift in social interactions from real to virtual life. We argue that couples can use internet communications not only to marry when separated by great distance but also to choose which state’s laws will authorize their marriage. In particular, same sex couples could marry under the laws of a state that permit such unions, regardless of where they exchange vows. States inadvertently have created geographic monopolies, requiring each marriage receiving the benefits of their licensing laws to be performed within their borders. This Article’s model builds upon established precedents, such as proxy marriage and choice of law for multijurisdictional and internet contracts. Using the power of internet communications, our proposal allows states to compete over marriage’s procedures and substance. Depending on a couple’s preferences for “e-ritual” and a state’s desired level of regulatory control, couples could consume the trappings of a traditional ceremony...

Accounting

...P R E FAC E THE ACCOUNTING ENVIRONMENT Accounting is the most employable, sought-after major for 2009, according to entrylevel job site CollegeGrad.com. One reason for this interest is found in the statement by former Secretary of the Treasury and Economic Advisor to the President, Lawrence Summers. He noted that the single-most important innovation shaping our capital markets was the idea of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). We agree with Mr. Summers. Relevant and reliable financial information is a necessity for viable capital markets. Without it, our markets would be chaotic, and our standard of living would decrease. This textbook is the market leader in providing the tools needed to understand what GAAP is and how it is applied in practice. Mastery of this material will be invaluable to you in whatever field you select. Through many editions, this textbook has continued to reflect the constant changes taking place in the GAAP environment. This edition continues this tradition, which has become even more significant as the financial reporting environment is exploding with major change. Here are three areas of major importance that are now incorporated extensively into this edition of the text. A New Way of Looking at Generally Accepted Principles (GAAP) Learning GAAP used to be a daunting task, as it is comprised of many standards that vary in form, completeness, and structure. Fortunately, the profession has recently developed the Financial Accounting...

Professional Accounting in the Public Interest

...Chapter Four Professional Accounting in the Public Interest, Post-Enron Purpose of the Chapter When the Enron, Arthur Andersen, and WorldCom debacles triggered the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), a new era of stakeholder expectations was crystallized for the business world and particularly for the professional accountants that serve in it. The drift away from the professional accountant’s role as a fiduciary to that of a businessperson was called into question and reversed. The principles that the new expectations spawned and renewed resulted in changes in how the professional accountants are to behave, what services are to be offered, and what performance standards are to be met. These standards have been embedded in a new governance structure and in guidance mechanisms, which have domestic and international components. The influence of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) will be as important as that of SOX in the long run. This chapter examines each of these developments and provides insights into important areas of current and future practice. Building upon the understanding of the new stakeholder accountability framework facing clients and employers developed in earlier chapters, this chapter explores public expectations for the role of the professional accountant and the principles that should be observed in discharging that role. This leads to consideration of the implications for services to be...
