Car Accidents

...Car Accident Articles and Statistics Statistics show that 70% of auto accidents are completely preventable. The driver who causes the accident is simply distracted or irresponsible and is not paying enough attention to the road. The truth is anything can cause you to be distracted from the road; reaching for food or drink, changing the radio station, talking to passengers, texting, or even reading a map or GPS. As a driver, one needs to realize that one has a responsibility to one’s passengers and everyone on the road around oneself to be a safe, observant, and careful driver. In one of my articles, a 19-year-old was driving three 15-year-olds in his car. He was drunk and he was involved in a one car accident. Because of this, one of his passengers died. This accident was completely preventable. If the driver had been more responsible, he would have not driven while intoxicated or have even consumed alcohol in the first place. On April 12th, 2011, a 23-year-old was traveling at least 100 mph before he crashed. This driver was on a motorcycle and died from the accident. This could have been prevented if the motorcyclist would have just reduced his speeds to a safer one. The driver could have saved his own life if he had just slowed down a bit. In another article, a man was standing in the street trying to get a good look at a shuttle launch. This man was 70-years-old and died hours after the crash. The man should have not been standing in the street, but drivers were...

Traffic Accident

...Nowadays traffic accidents in United States become a worse problem resulting in many deaths, injured, disabilities and damage to both private and public property. According to data from National Committee for Road Traffic Safety, in 2007 the total number of traffic accidents increased to 9449 cases, which killed 1545 persons, injured 24815. This makes traffic accident and death rates in United States are higher. Traffic accidents are caused mainly by drinking, speeding, and cars going off-road while drivers failed to use car’s facilities properly, especially, disobeying the traffic laws. Drunk Driving is not only illegal, but completely preventable. Alcohol-impaired driving is a serious national problem that unfortunately affects many victims yearly. Often, people believe they feel well enough to drive after drinking only a small amount of alcohol. They should be careful not to drive even if they slightly intoxicated after the party. A slight intoxication can reduce one’s response time to maneuver a vehicle. For example, alcohol causes the body to relax and sometimes can blur one’s vision. While in a car, it takes longer for some intoxicated drivers to slow down or to see what cars and obstacles may be in front, behind, or on either side of them. Moreover, Seat safety belts are designed to reduce injuries by stopping the driver from hitting hard elements inside of the vehicle. By not wearing a seat belt, they are also putting their self at...

Three important issues stand out when it come to the operation of table saws in the work place and in the home; safety, training and equipment conditions. Mr. John Schmidt was injured on June 7; he seriously injured his hand while pushing a large piece of wood through a table saw in the production shop at work. Who is at fault here, the company or Mr. John Schmidt? Problems to be examined are the functioning of the safety guards presently on the table saw being used in the production shop, how employees are trained to operate this equipment and are the equipment conditions well. I will examine what was said by all the employees and management in the production shop. In this dispute it is examined if the company or the employee is at fault. Safety is number one when operating table saws in the work place and in the home. If you are not paying close attention to the process of cutting wood, the safety guards may not protect you in certain situations with handling table saws. Car Accidents

...Causes of Car Accidents For many people, driving a vehicle is an everyday activity. People rely on their cars to get to work, school, and other important places. However, driving can be dangerous, and although weather conditions and car malfunctions can contribute to accidents, the behavior of drivers is most often the cause of accidents. The three main causes of car accidents are poorly trained drivers, distracted drivers, and impaired drivers. One cause of car accidents is poorly trained drivers. Drivers who don’t follow the rules of the road can be putting themselves and others at risk. For example, drivers who exceed the speed limit will have a more difficult time stopping or turning if something, such as an animal, crosses their path. In addition, there are road signs that drivers need to recognize, understand, and obey. Other drivers cannot tell how people who do not obey road signs will drive, and this unpredictability can lead to accidents. Finally, not checking blind spots and not being aware of one’s surroundings can result in a collision. A driver who is not aware of what is around his or her vehicle may crash into other cars or objects, not realizing they are there. For these reasons, poorly trained drivers can cause accidents. Distracted drivers are another cause of car accidents. Driving is a task that requires the driver’s full attention, so performing other tasks while driving can lead to an accident. For example, people who talk on their cell phone while driving...

Witness of a Road Accident

...Witness of a Road Accident In a city like Bombay, which has more than four hundred thousand vehicles and a few million pedestrians on the roads, many accidents take place every day. But tragic as and accident is, involving loss of life. Things are made worse by the fact that every accident is followed by time-consuming and expensive lawsuits. The polish are handicapped in this matter by the fact that very few people come forward as witnesses. They are either afraid of getting involved or simply indifferent. Suddenly we heard the squeal of brakes and saw a car, clearly out of control, skidding on the road. The young man who was driving the vehicle was struggling with the steering wheel but the car was moving sideways towards market. We saw the car smash straight into a cyclist who was coming from the market and flung against a lamppost. Nick ran in search of a policeman and to phone for an ambulance while I tried to render some first-aid to the bleeding man. Chile Mining Accident

...n the article that was required for our research, “Over 30 workers trapped after Chilean copper mine collapse” (Weik, 2010), it stated that on August 5, 2010 the San Jose mine collapsed trapping approximately 30 workers. It also stated that rescuers where attempting to locate workers in order to drill to provide those trapped with food, water and oxygen, however rescuers were halted due to a second cave-in. The news article also indicated that prior to the collapse, there was a fatal accident in 2007 which closed the mine, however, opened later that year. The additional articles that was researched for the Chilean mine collapse also did not shed any additional light on the trapped miner, however reads and most likely understood that the owner of the mine is trying to make excuses, such as “Major mining accidents are uncommon in Chile, the world’s top cooper producer” (Arthur, 2010) and “Chile is the world’s top copper producer, but serious mining accidents are uncommon in an industry closely monitored by authorities” (Soto, 2010). These articles were not successful in sending the message because it leaves the question “Why”? Communication is important regardless of the method used; however the audience is to be considered when using any type of communication method whether it is preparing a news article or an office memo to be distributed. Some considerations to be given the different roles and people in the audience are the possible difference in perceptions, cultural...

My Car Accident

...My Car Accident Like any other Saturday, I was hanging out with my best friend, Lindsey. We had just left the Project Graduation car show, and were headed out Buckeye Road trying to get her home on time. We were playing loud music, laughing, swaying and talking about our boyfriend issues like normal. I hated to see the night end, so we sat in my car in her driveway hashing out our plans for next weekend. We hugged and she made me promise I would buckle up and be safe. Of course, I agreed to both, I put the car in reverse and backed out. As I was driving down twisting country roads thinking about our plans for next weekend, the thought of being in a car accident never crossed my mind. And then it happened. A bright red car came barreling at me head on. I panicked, and jerked my steering wheel. My car wheels dropped off the low shoulder. Suddenly, the car careened out of control, and everything went dark. I couldn’t see, but I could hear the screaming of brakes, smell of burning rubber, feel my body being jolted forward in a lifeless motion. I heard sounds of metal crunching, felt like I was soaring through the sky, and everything ended in a sudden hard stop and complete silence. The next thing I remember is someone cradling me, and talking to me and the sounds of sirens in the distance. I fade in and out of consciousness, but I can still feel the pain shooting through my body, and tears of fear flowing down my cheeks. I woke up with something obscuring my vision and hindering...
