"Good day." I nod to the guns the guards are holding in an X in front of the entrance, signaling for them to let me pass. I need to get into that tent. Today is the day. Now or never.

"No can do miss 'Lizabeth. The Emperor doesn't want no one in there." replies the broad guard, whom I believe is called Richard. Oh no, I need to get in there, surely if I don't succeed His Majesty the King of England will have me hanged. I was already nervous enough, but now I might not even be able to get in there and do my duty?

"Surely you are mistaken," I begin, trying not to let my fake french accent waver, "The Emperor asked me to come serve tea for him and his officers at noon. Am I mistaken? I'm sure that the clock said noon..." I added the bit about …show more content…
Just tea," he states, sounding a bit hesitant. Oh how I wish I knew what was going on in his head!

"Oh, well in that case, sir, I think I shall go brew us some tea, hmm?" I sort of state, sort of ask. Napoleon just nods his head, and I take that as an okay, and off I go towards the cupboard to take out the kettle.

"What tea will you have sir?" I ask as I put the kettle on the little table with a clang.

"Whichever one you'll have." he says, grinning at me with surprisingly white teeth, I gasp, but I play it off as a cough. That is quite strange, he never smiles. I have never seen his teeth before, except for that once when he snarled at a messenger boy for "poor conduct". The poor kid was making eyes at me, then I didn't know why Napoleon did that, but now I suppose my new theory is true, he does fancy me, but best not jump to conclusions just yet. So I just nod, and pick a random tea from the drawer.

"I'll just go boil the kettle." I tell him-can't have him thinking I ran off, can I-, and grab the metal kettle, and he nods. To tell the truth, I have no idea how to make tea, I've relied on the other maid to help, but now she's gone, and now I regret not paying attention. I walk out of the tent, and nodding to the guards in greeting. I suppose I should start by putting water in the kettle, I think that's what Gertrude did, so I start walking towards the …show more content…
Oh how humiliating.

I have to calm down, else one of the guards will come barging in, and we can't have that. Oh, why'd I have to do that? Why couldn't the king have sent some other girl? Oh why? Just take a deep breath, the voice in my head tells me, so that's what I do. Deep breath in, deep breath out.

After a few even more painful minutes of grieving, I stand up and walk towards Napoleon. I should put him in his bed, that way it might be less obvious, they'll probably think that he... claimed me... until they see his face, which is a mix of colors which I can't even describe. I lift him up on to his feet, he's quite heavy to my weak arms, so heavy I almost collapse under his weight.

But somehow I manage to get him into his bed, with his covers pulled over him, I untie my handkerchief from around his face, and the rope from around his appendages, take his hat off, and position his face so that it's facing opposite of the door. It breaks my heart to see him like this, I really do love him, I have no idea of how I can live knowing I killed
