An Explanation of How the Style of Organisation Helps Bishop Stopford’s School and Hick’s Farm Fulfil Their Purposes.

The style of organization of both businesses differ greatly as they both organizations operate in different sectors and are in place for different purposes. Hicks farm operates in the private sectors with the main objective of profit. Hicks farm has a flat organizational structure where only two general managers have control over all other employees. Bishops stopfords school is a public sector business which has an objective of providing qualifications to young people. The school has a tall organizational structure which have an abundance of managerial roles including heads of departments and assistant head teachers.
Missions and values
This conveys the values and overall aim of the business and highlights what it was set up to achieve . This is communicated to the different stake holders of the business including its owners, employees and customers, usually summarized in a mission statement.
As bishops stopfords is a public sector business they would set their overall aim in relation to government standards which is achieving 5 A*-C grades at a GCSE level enabling student to go on to higher education. This is overall the main aim of the school but however as founded as a Christian school they school still aim to transmit Christian values such as forgiveness togetherness and peace which staff work very hard to achieve below we can see the mission statement for bishops stopfords

Hicks Farm is a private sector business with private sector business usually their main objective is profit maximization which is what hicks farm want to achieve although hicks farm pride themselves in producing free range and organic products and also using local suppliers. Hicks farm have a moral value that all their animals are treated right and are given space to roam hence their free range products.

Strategic aims and objectives

Hicks farms main aim at the moment is expansion due to increased competition from big name supermarkets such as Tesco sainsburys and co-op they have had to diversify into other fields such as childcare. As hicks farm are reinvesting profits for 5 years to become accomplished in this field their flat organizational structure means that they are able reinvest more of their profits as they are less influencing factors and less shareholders to play. This will allow them to grow quicker bringing benefits such as bigger profit margins.

As Bishop stopfords school is a public sector organization aim and objective is set against government standard which is of 5A*-C for each student that is the minimum set for all schools in Enfield. The tall organizational style of bishop stopfords school helps them greatly achiever this purpose as the school teaches many different topics which any one person cannot specialize in so specialist teachers are hired to operate in a specific department with the most qualified or most experienced one being appointed as the head of department and responsible for each child's progress in the department.

Strategic planning process
Once a business has identified its aims and objectives it needs to draw up a detailed plan in order to achieve this and both plans vary for bishop stopfords school and hicks farm. As hicks farm are looking to diversify into childcare they will need to put significant resources into market research which will tell them the level of competition they would have, sales forecasts and consumer expenditure. The owners of hicks farm have decided they are going to reinvest profit for the next five years to become established in this field. The flat organizational structure of hicks farm make it easier for the two owners to control and monitor the strategic plan closely however the lack of specialization might come at a disadvantage to hicks farm.

Any objective set by either organization in order to be as effective as possible would need to be SMART which stands for
Specific- objective should be focused on a particular area of performance such as profit or market share
Measurable- Objectives should be able to be expressed in numerical terms making it easier to see if they have been achieve or check progress
Achievable- objectives need to be ambitious to drive a business forward and motivate staff however they need to be realistic considering the resources the business has available and the external environments in which its operates
Resourced- Objectives need to be supported by an adequate level of resources such as sufficient finance and the right number or apparatus
Time bound- objectives need to have a deadline in order to motivate employees and measure progress
