Analysis and Synthesis of Prior Research Analysis and Synthesis of Prior Research
The companies that efficiently solve their projects issues and portfolio concerns will differentiate themselves from their competition. The projects that companies work to complete with the many different project methodologies demonstrate where the business is now, and the portfolio of projects of the organization demonstrate where the organization is headed. To effectively manage the tremendous number of projects that leaders face today in their organizations, they look to methods and processes that aid them in effectively managing a group of projects. The method used to help in this endeavor is Portfolio Project Management (PPM).
Portfolio Management Methodologies
According to Project Management Institute’s 2012 Pulse of the Profession In-Depth Report there is a clear trend based on their annual global study of more than 1000 project, program and portfolio managers. Over half of the companies reported an increase in their use of portfolio management as a means of effectively dealing with organizational strategy based on portfolio management (PMI, 2012). Moreover, the results of the study determined that 62% of projects that were concluded based on the effective use of portfolio management methodologies met or exceeded their expected return on investment (PMI, 2012). Notwithstanding the quantifiable benefits of portfolio management, the study uncovered that relatively few businesses created an avenue to perfect the portfolio management methodologies within their company.
Strategic Level
To effectively establish portfolio management, as a methodology within an organization requires a strategy that places portfolio management at a strategic level within the company, a corporate culture that is portfolio-minded, and the implementation of the appropriate tools and practices must

Literature Review

...What is a literature review? Put simply, it is an analysis of prior academic research so as to identify the who, what, where, and whys’ of the chosen topic area. You may or may not have conducted what some academics call a preliminary study – a brief search into the existing academic work in your chosen topic. After all, for some students carrying out primary research it’s vital that their work has never been carried out before and these initial studies are crucial when identifying a unique topic for research. In some subject areas, it may be difficult, if not impossible to identify areas for primary research and therefore a preliminary study may not be necessary (secondary research is usually carried out as a result). Whatever the starting point, the literature review forms one of the first major pieces of work in a dissertation. There are several main reasons why you would undertake a literature review. The first is to enable you, the author, to become absolutely clear on what it is you have chosen to research and study. By understanding other academic literature you can gain an understanding of what has been and is currently being researched. This will help with your own work by identifying windows of opportunity and helping to cement your research questions. For some subjects you may find there has not been much prior research in your field of study, in which case your literature review will have to be less specific and the academic net in which you search will have to be...

The Big Five Personality Traits, Learning Styles and Academic Achievement

...apply the information they learn. * The article wish to understand whether the differences are related to personality and does learning strategies are mediate the link between personality traits and academic achievements. 3. LITERATURE REVIEW: For the literature review articles, researchers found the evidence on the relationship between personality, learning styles and academic achievement that could be a variable for this research. Researchers has referred to the Big Five framework of personality traits by Costa & McCrae (1992) that has emerged as model for understanding the relationship between personality and academic behaviors ((Poropat, 2009). The researchers want to test the relationship between conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion, openness and agreeable to the personality traits. Researchers also adopted Schmeck, Ribich and Ramaniah’s (1977) model because it identifies learning strategies that are likely to enhance learning and academic achievement from the framework of effective information processing. Prior researches also suggest that individuals differ in their intellectual styles and preferences for how they gain knowledge (Sternberg & Zhang, 2001; Zhang 2003). Researchers found that from the previous findings, the learning styles and personality traits appear to be intricately connected although how they jointly influence academic is unclear. The...

You cannot follow the characters, action, or conflict because the author of the review rambles on and on. Without clear paragraphs, this review will likely lose your interest, and you may skip the movie altogether! When you are the writer, it is helpful to position yourself as a reader. Ask yourself whether you can focus easily on each point you make. Effective writers use a single paragraph for each new idea they introduce. Paragraphs separate ideas into logical, manageable, and distinct units. Each paragraph focuses on only one main idea and presents coherent sentences to support that single point. Because all the sentences in one paragraph support the same point, a paragraph may stand on its own. Each paragraph is shaped by Purpose: the reason why the writer composes the paragraph. < Tone: the attitude the writer conveys about the paragraph’s subject. < Audience: the individual or group whom the writer intends to address. < Content: the written material in the paragraph...

Concept Analysis

...comparison. Accuracy and consistency are essential when providing patient care and it should be displayed within nursing practice, communication, and documentation. Institute of Medicine reports that there are over 98,000 deaths caused by preventable errors (1999). The purpose of this paper is to respond to a peer reviewed concept analysis article, describing the method of analysis, the steps of the process, results for each step and to apply the concept to a practice situation. Concept Analysis The Electronic Health Record (EHR) improves the exchange of patient data, accuracy, and quality of patient care. Poor communication and technology can impede a positive outcome for the patient. A core competence of nursing is documentation of patient’s response to nursing interventions and effectively communicating the care given. In the article Concept Analysis of Similarity Applied to Nursing Diagnoses: Implications for Educators the author uses the Walker and Avant concept analysis of similarity. In nursing, concept analysis clarifies unclear concepts and gives a mean to common understanding within nursing practice. “The purpose of a concept analysis is to describe the concept well enough so that defining characteristics can be determined and used to distinguish “likeness or unlikeness” between concepts” (Walker & Avant, 2005, p. 64). Wilson developed an 11 step process in 1963 that defined the concepts to improve communication and comprehension of the meanings of terms...

Educational Research

...What is Educational Research? A cyclical process of steps that typically begins with identifying a research problem or issue of study. It then involves reviewing the literature, specifying a purpose for the study, collecting and analyzing data, and forming an interpretation of information. This process culminates in a report, disseminated to audiences, that is evaluated and used in the educational community. (Creswell, 2002) In less comprehensive terms, educational research is an organized approach to asking, answering, and effectively reporting a question. Why Educational Research? Educators need to be consumers (and producers) of research. Creswell (2002) notes the following reasons, describing the various purposes of educational research: 1. Improve Practice Research can suggest ways of improving practice that have been verified with many applications and by many different types of people, which is difficult for practitioners. 2. Add to Knowledge Research can add to what we know about how people learn and what we can do help facilitate the learning process. 3. Address Gaps in Knowledge Research can address areas in which little is know, like perhaps the effects of online versus traditional classroom learning. 4. Expand Knowledge Research can allow us to extend what we know in ways we never conceived. 5. Replicate Knowledge Research can act as a test to verify previous findings. 6. Add Voices of Individuals to Knowledge Research can add an important perspective...

Retelling is the ability to read or listen to a story, then summarize it in paraphrased form. Children begin learning the basics of retelling in kindergarten where teachers start to informally assess the students' overall understanding of a story. Retelling is a useful assessment tool throughout school because it can measure simple to advanced comprehension, as well as help the students improve their listening and speaking skills. Instructions 1. Review retelling strategy. Model it again for those who may struggle. Read a short story aloud to the class, then summarize the important details in the correct sequence. Write each summarizing statement on chart paper. Number the statements so students understand how to retell in the order that events happened. 2. Eli Lily Case Report

...Executive Summary In an effort to follow-up its success with Prozac (see Appendix A), Eli Lilly and Company saw a market for an anti-migraine drug that similarly targeted serotonin levels. Their prior research and development involving such neurotransmitters put them at an advantage over their competitors. Their goal was to find a neurotransmitter (i.e. serotonin) that matched the receptor that they felt was the key to relieving the migraine. (Appendix B provides a basic overview on how receptors and neurotransmitters integrate and function.) Aided by cutting edge methods of combinatorial chemistry and high-throughput screening, Lilly was able to test compounds at a significantly quicker rate. In fact, their first set of compounds tested resulted in a higher potency compound than any that resulted from traditional chemistry methods of testing one compound at a time. With time being of the essence in the drug industry, the natural solution was to utilize combinatorial chemistry to develop the anti-migraine drug. It will allow for a quicker drug development and hopefully ensure a spot as one of the first market entrants. First to market was not a must but being a fast follower was very important in order to gain significant market share. Having a facility dedicated to this drug will create and efficient production process and reduce waste. The goal would be to focus just on the one anti-migraine drug in the hope that it will make it all the way to market. However, if it were...
