Could you imagine how bad the Holocaust really was?Everything that happened to people the torture people had to go threw. The book I read was Stones in Water. By Donna Jo Napoli. This book was about a boy named roberto who was going to see a movie with his friends and got pulled out of the movie theaters and taken away from his family and brought to a concentration camp.Who then had to find a way to survive it.
The passage I chose was “He pointed to the shore and said something. Then he walked to the edge of the wood and blew the whistle. The boys hurried to line up. Roberto came out of the water slowly, with Enzo close behind and off to the side and away from the other boys.”Didn’t you love it?” whispered Enzo. “For a little while I pretended I was home” “ Love it?”(Napoli 50).
The theme of this novel is finding light in the darkness. This was demonstrated when Roberto experienced how his friend was thinking of memories about water and his family. He thought about the water because he had to go into the lake. He found light in the darkness by thinking of a happy time in his life during a bad time to help him think about his family. So from him remembering that it made it more fun and he stayed a little more calm.
