Introduction
In today’s ever changing global economy, even the most innovative organizations constantly have to reshape themselves, in order to maintain their positions as industry leaders. In reshaping their organizations, leaders must have the ability to drive innovation and help their organizations to become even more innovative then they are. As global trends emerge, they influence the need for organizations to innovate in order to have a competitive advantage and be successful. When we examine the case of HCL Technologies (HCLT), it is evident that the former CEO, Vineet Nayar, planned and executed a clever strategy to turn around the company’s fate from a suffering IT service provider to an industry leader. This paper will analyze Nayar’s leadership behaviors and skills; and how he applied these to combat the global trends affecting HCLT and create a more innovative organization. In assessing Nayar’s discovery skills in his innovation leadership, opportunities will also be evaluated for ways in which Nayar can improve these skills in support of leading HCLT further in innovation.

Global Trends Affecting HCLT
Overall, Nayar’s success story with HCLT comes from his ability to drive innovation and transform HCLT into a more innovative organization, despite the global adversities that the company faced. In his article, Nayar (2010) tells us that HCLT’s revenues were growing by about 30% a year when he became the CEO of the Indian based IT services provider (p.110). Although there was revenue growth, the IT services industry was rapidly changing and HCLT was being impacted by several global trends as a result of these changes. Nayar (2010) tells us that the company was losing its market share and mindshare; despite the profits it made (p.110). Both market share and mindshare are key indicators...

Analysis of Leaders in Innovation

...Yasir Adesanya Unit 5 Assignment 1 May 14, 2016 It was a really good experience working with my peers and having them review my assignments. It’s something I use to have issues with few years ago. I am someone who typically hates criticism, I believe my ways is the best way. However, I have grown and realized there’s nothing wrong having other people review my work, notes, assignment and providing genuine and necessary feedback. In addition, it was great reviewing other’s assignment and providing needed and necessary feedback in return. It was fun at the same time having to look at my peer assignment on a professional level. I interacted with them via the discussion board and email. Initially, it was a little bit awkward but after a while I got over it as I do that at work already where I review my colleagues report blindly. The only difference was that I have seen my colleagues before compare to here where you have absolutely no idea who they are except from the brief introduction from the first day of class I read about them. I had great interactions with them where they told me amazing stories about the chosen companies and I did the same in return about Naira bakery in Brooklyn, what prompted my in law to start the company. Overall, this class has been a great experience for me in the end. Personally, working with my classmates on those assignment, chatting back and forth, and working with ideas, brainstorming, helping arrange my notes was superb...

Apple

...Problem Statement: In the past, Apple has been the leader in innovation and has made a high quality product. The drastic changes in the computer industry have caused Apple to reevaluate their strategy. As a result, Apple is attempting to maintain differentiation through innovation while struggling to be cost competitive. While Apple’s revenue has increased over the past three years, profitability has declined and market share has remained stagnant. External Analysis: Porters Five Force analysis: 1. Threat of New Entrants: Hardware: The threat of new entrants is low. With start up costs ranging between $5-10 million, it creates a steep barrier for entry. This upfront cost would take a company years to see a return on the investment. Existing companies have capitalized on the distribution channels and created strong brand awareness. Companies similar to Apple have differentiated themselves to consumers, a barrier that is hard for new entrants to overcome. 2. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Hardware: Low as Apple has a strong vertical integration. Suppliers must be competitive to ensure they can retain the business from the large computer manufacturing companies. The only area that has a limited supply base is the computer processing chips. Suppliers must adjust pricing and quality to ensure their products appeal more attractive. As a result, competition is high leaving them in a low supplier power position....
