Brief History: Historians believe that Indigenous Australians arrived 40,000 to 60,000 years ago. In 1788, British settlers arrived in Sydney, Australia, with over a thousand settlers. Later on, the British colony came to control most of the continent by the end of the nineteenth-century. Australia did not receive their independence until after World War One. In 1986, the Australian Act removed any remaining links between the British Parliament and the Australian states to instate British laws (Rocca, 2014).
