Sinclair Ross’ “The Lamp At Noon”, is a great example of the confrontation between nature and human life. Ross effectively utilizes human weakness of two individuals who are struggling to survive. These characters try to cope with threatening forces, but instead becomes more vulnerable. Ross establishes this concept through the character Ellen, who persists to receive comfort from her husband. Ellen who is also a mother, gets into arguments from their different values. She seeks to escape when under pressure. In "The Lamp At Noon", Ross develops the idea that in the face of threatening forces, restlessness results in unreasonable decisions.
