Android is a name that was introduced by Google Inc. It is a very popular technology in mobile phones these days, as it is an operating system which is capable of running multiple application programs. It is a complete revolution in the mobile technology industry after iPhones. This essay is a feature on Android technology.
Android is a revolutionary name which is an open-source software assemble of an operating system, middleware and key applications for mobile devices. In 2005, Google Inc. purchased the initial developer of the software; Android Inc and developed it. Android’s mobile operating system is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel. (Lee P.)
The introduction of the Android distribution on 5 November 2007 was announced with the beginning of the Open Handset Alliance which was a consortium of 80 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. Google released most of the Android code under the Apache License, a free software and open source license. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is tasked with the maintenance and further development of Android. (Mark S.)
Google proclaimed the Android Market on 28 August 2008, and it was made available to users on 22 October 2008. Support for paid applications was accessible from 13 February 2009 for US and UK developers, with additional support from 29 countries on 30 September 2010. In February 2011, the Android Market was made fully accessible on the web, allowing users to browse and pick up applications using their PCs, send them to their mobile phone and make comments on them. All this functionality was previously accessible only from mobile phone devices.
Android has a large community of developers writing application programs (“apps“) that enlarge the functionality of the devices. There are currently over 150,000 apps available for Android. Android Market is the online app store run by Google, though apps can also be downloaded from third-party sites. Canalys reported that in Q4 2010 the Android operating system was the world’s best-selling smart phone platform. Jumping from 23.5 percent, Android now represents 31.2 percent of the U.S smart phone market.
The Android open-source software mass consists of Java applications running on a Java-based, object-oriented application framework running on a Dalvik virtual machine featuring JIT compilation on top of Java core libraries. Libraries written in C incorporate the surface manager, OpenCore media framework, SQLite relational database management system, OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics API, WebKit layout engine, SGL graphics engine, SSL, and Bionic libc. The Android operating system consists of 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C, 2.1 million lines of Java, and 1.75 million lines of C++. (Christopher T.)
The Android Operating System can be used as an operating system for cell phones, notebooks and tablets, including the Dell Streak, Samsung Galaxy Tab, TV and other devices. The first commercially available phone to run the Android operating system was the HTC Dream, released on 22 October 2008. In early 2010 Google collaborated with HTC to launch its flagship Android device, the Nexus One. This was followed later in 2010 with the Samsung-made Nexus S. The Android technology is on evolution and its evolving day by day to provide its consumers with the best technology.

This project will satisfy the Exploration (EXP) research category required by the NSF prior to award consideration. Our entire project team shares the same vision regarding this project and are prepared to work collaboratively amongst any affiliates or personnel requested by the NSF pending the awarded grant. 1.0 INTRODUCTION Distance learning is becoming more popular and utilized each passing day in today’s society. The ability for a student to attend an educational institution anywhere in the world is a realistic possibility because of the Internet. However, what students sacrifice in trade for convenience, may not be worth the impersonal learning standards that web-based learning resources provide. When a student attends an online class, there is little to no face-to-face interaction between the students and instructors. According to an Inside Higher Ed article, 97 percent of two-year institutions in Virginia offer some online courses and a large and growing number of students (22 percent of the sector’s overall enrollment in 2008) take at least one course online (Fain, 2013). While this study exhibits the availability of online classes, it also states that only 3 percent of the students are enrolled in an entirely online degree program. Only 5 of the 46 students surveyed said......

...many others as well. The costless Braille app could revolutionize texting. Braille touch is an easy to use, far from complicated application that will soon be available on Iphones and Andriod touchscreen smartphones. This application is based on Computer Braille, which is a method of typing that allows users to enter up to 63 characters by pressing different combinations of only six simple buttons. There are three dots found on each side of the touch screen, known as the six buttons. When using this system, users hold the phone facing away from the body, using their middle three fingers of each hand to chord in letters, numbers and characters such as question marks and exclamation points. Also, the user simply swiping their finger across the screen can enter spaces and backspaces. According to Georgia Tech researchers, “some visually impaired people were able to reach up to 32 words per minute with 92% accuracy with a prototype app for the iPhone.” It is said that typing with this app is up to six times faster than past methods for texting without sight. Availability to equipment for the visually impaired is a rising topic due to the abundance of touchscreens. Experts say that current technology for the visually impaired such as voice over systems are efficient, but slow. Also, most technology made to help the visually impaired type, such as attaching hardware braille keyboards, can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars. This Braille touch app will be free. Privacy Concerns and the Use of Internet Cookies

...Privacy concerns and the use of internet cookies Jose Omar Garcia IFSM 201 October 21, 2012 Cookies evolved because they solve a big problem for the people who create web sites. They are small files stored on a user's computer as a text file and placed on the hard disk by a web page server. Designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website, they can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer. This allows the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script that allows the cookie to carry information from one website visit to the next. They are not used to run programs or to deliver viruses to your computer. Moreover, they are uniquely assigned to one computer in particular, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to the user. One of the biggest concerns with cookies is they potentially violate an internet user's privacy, many times without his or her knowledge. Even though many websites guarantee protection of personal information, many people do not like the idea of their passwords or other sensitive data being stored. Therefore, internet browsers provide various privacy settings so a user can prevent the installation of cookies or clear them at any time. This paper will explore some of the ethical implication of using cookies in the internet environment, particularly regarding protection of personal information. The......

Case Study on Apple

...Apple dates back to 1976, when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak began building computer circuit boards in the garage of the Jobs household. Over the next few years, Apple computers revolutionized the computer industry as they began to take over the market. By 1980, Apple was able to launch an IPO. Aside from the slump they ran into in the 90’s, Apple has been a consistently strong company, outdoing and surpassing the capabilities of most of its competitors. Over the years, Apple has developed certain aspects of competitive advantages that give them an edge over other companies, resulting in higher market share and returns. One of Apple’s biggest competitive advantages over the years, especially early on, was their ability to practice horizontal and vertical integration within the firm. This separated Apple from many other firms within the market, including their biggest rival early on, IBM. Rather than licensing to third parties, Apple also designed all of its products from scratch. This allows Apple to make changes quickly and react to any changes within the market, keeping them ahead of the game. One of Apple’s important competitive advantages is their investment in Research and Development (R&D). Over the years, Apple has consistently invested more in R&D compared to all of its competitors. This decision allows Apple to stay extremely innovative and ahead of their competitors. Rather than trying to catch up and “piggyback” off the devices of other companies,......

Apple Swot

...Yolanda Davis Scanning the Environment American InterContinental University Online July 4, 2013 Apple SWOT Analysis Strengths Key Factor-Innovation Apple has been the leader in technological innovation with the release of such products as the MacBook Computers, iPods, iPads, iPhone and more recently the announcement of iTV. According to the 2012 Global Innovation 1000 conducted by Booz & Company, Apple ranked number 1 for the 3rd year in a row. Although many may feel that innovation is about creating new products all the time, Apple’s idea of innovation is about creating quality products (Krasnv, 2013). By building on their strength over the years to create quality products they have also built a foundation as lead innovators and constantly change the technological game with their products. Key Factor-Brand As a leader in innovation, Apple has also secured their brand value by constantly creating products that are well designed but also by understanding that brand is less about the logo and more about aligning the business strategy and employee base with the ability to influence how the consumer felt about the product. This factor is demonstrated by the fact that at least half of every U.S. household own one Apple product minimum despite the price of their products (Gralnick, 2012). Although not infallible, brand power does reflect a company’s marketing ability and Apple has shown the world that they have marketing power by ranking number two behind Coca Cola......

And objects like iron wall, wooden box, motor bike etc. Suppose if the robot has to paint a motor bike it has to identify the parts of the motor bike and has to paint the color to those parts. For example, if the rims of the wheels had to be painted in black color then the robot has to identify the rims and paint the black color. In the same way, if the chassis had to be painted with black color then the robot has to identify the chassis and paint it accordingly. In this way, the whole motor bike would be painted by the robot based on the parts. For painting the parts of the motor bike there are some methods like generating the optimum path and the trajectory methods. In this way, robot can paint the respective object based on the models with different colors.
