I wonder how it feels to be helpless, to have no control of what happens in your own life. To be petrified whenever someone walks by, cowering into the small jail cell you are forced to call home. To watch other living things get slaughtered right in front of you by creatures ruthless enough to just toss the corpse away and take another animal, all without the least bit of pity. To be living in hell, and to know your death is soon to come. Poor animals in animal testing laboratories feel like this everyday - powerless, blockaded from all the goodness in life. It’s sickening that the human race has stooped as low as to deprive one's innocent life for the sake of a better perfume, and that atrocious acts like this still happen today. Animal testing is by far an inhumane act. According to an article from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization (PETA), entitled, Experiments on Animals: Overview, it explains, “Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories…”. This is truly insane. Over 100 million animals died for tests for things like lotions, colognes, perfumes, and cosmetics; but no matter how much you apply, it’s still not enough to cover the guilt of taking away a life. Many might say that different types of animals have more pain tolerance than humans, however, another PETA article called, Why Animal Rights?, proves otherwise. It shares, “All animals …show more content…
According to Paul Furlong, Professor of Clinical Neuroimaging at Aston University, in the article Animal Testing, he introduces, “It's very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we're trying to achieve in the human". This proves that animals aren’t the most reliable choice for testing the safety of products. We shouldn’t have to test on animals if it won’t even have the same effect on a human. In fact, in “Top Five Reasons to Stop Animal Testing” by the PETA reads, “The Food and Drug Administration reports that 92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in humans.” This means that researchers are spending a lot of money and risking animal lives on tests that only have a 8% success rate in humans . It’s a waste of time and money, whereas alternatives are more successful and require a diminished amount of work and time. The ProCon.org website confirms, “An "unscheduled DNA synthesis" animal test costs $32,000, while the in vitro alternative costs $11,000.” This means that if you use the in vitro alternative, you can do almost three times the amount of tests to equal the on animal test. Though, maybe the alternative isn't as sufficient. However, this website further explains the in vitro alternative very thoroughly. Ultimately, it describes that this alternative studies human cells in a Petri dish to produce more precise results of

Animal Testing Is Inhumane

...I disagree with conducting experiments on animals, it’s inhumane and cruel against animals. It’s also unreasonable and invalid considering that animals aren’t even the same species as humans. There is also over means of testing that doesn’t harm animals or people. Also I think that these alternative means of testing products is useful and should be used instead of testing products on animals. Conducting experiments on animals is cruelty against animals, considering that products that are tested on animals are commonly treated unfairly and are force fed, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, and undergo prolonged periods of physical restraint. Infliction of other wounds to study the healing process also commonly occurs. Also...

Animal Testing Is Cruel And Inhumane

...Although animal testing has lead to many medical advancements it is still cruel and inhumane. There are alternatives to animal testing but, we still put over 100 million animals through torture and pain. “As soon as you walk into a laboratory, you can’t help but notice the rows and rows of barren cages holding sad animals living under the glare of fluorescent bulbs. Animals who have had their heads crushed grip their faces and convulse as blood pours out of their noses.” - Aysha Akhtar. “Human beings have no right to impose their will on animals. They are not ours to experiment on.” said Alison Currie when she visited an animal lab. Conducting tests on animals has led to some scientific and medical breakthroughs but, most of the time it leads...

Overall, animal testing is right because it not only saves human lives, but animals as well, contributes to many life saving cures and lastly animals have shorter life cycles so it speeds up the result process. People think animal testing only benefits us, but it is widely used to save animals all around the world. Because when animals get sick we don't always know or understand why. So what could be better to learn about a rat or chimpanzee than testing on one? Animal researchers have reestablished populations of endangered and threatened species. They did this by...

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing

...Animal Testing and Experimentation Imagine a small dog locked in a kennel for the majority of its life while being used for chemical and drug testing. Many die before they are saved by rescues. Riley is one of the lucky ones who had the chance to start a new life. At the age of three years old, Riley got to see all of the things that he never got to see as a puppy. He saw grass and the sky for the first time. He finally got to play with toys and run around with other dogs. He got a chance at a new life with a family to love him for the duration of his days ("Beagles Rescued From Labs In Bay Area, Nation After Being Used For Chemical Testing"). Animal research and animal testing is unethical and unnecessary, it needs to be prohibited or the laws surrounding it need to be stricter to protect the safety of the animals. There are many important aspects when it comes to animal testing such as alternative methods, how necessary it is to test on the animals, the similarities and differences between animals and humans, where the animals come from, and if it is inhumane....

The Pros And Cons Of Cosmetic Animal Testing

...its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated,” (qtd. in Mendoza). Today, some of the world’s most advanced countries exploit animals for cosmetic testing. Cosmetic animal testing should be illegal due to it being inhumane, having inaccurate test results, and alternative testing methods are available. First, animal testing is inhumane because it causes animals a lot of pain and permanently damages their bodies. A common way to test chemicals is the Draize test. During this procedure chemicals such as toluene are dropped into rabbits’ eyes and causes severe pain and blindness (Moran and Locke). Testing chemicals on animals’ skin is also common. Exposure to large...

Animal Research

...Animal testing has been a hot topic of discussion in society for many years. The debate is whether or not animal testing should be allowed. Some people believe that animal testing is wrong and that it causes undue harm to animals. Throughout the last 150 years, the practice of using animals for research has been under intense scrutiny between animal activists and researchers. Scientists insist that the experimental research they do is essential for producing effective drugs, and the animal rights activists believe that testing animals for advancements in medicine is not necessary. I believe that research using animals should continue as long as there is a reason for it to continue. Thanks to animal based research, to date millions of human lives have been saved. Animal testing is the only way to find out if vaccinations work for different diseases. We cannot just ask people off the streets to volunteer, as that would be morally and ethically wrong. At this time, scientific researchers have no alternatives for testing new drugs, as scientific computer modules can only do so much for testing. Also, the government has strong laws in place to ensure the health and welfare of test animals. As long as there is disease and sickness in the world, scientists will always be looking for the next cure and treatment options, so we will always need to have animal research. As long as the animals are treated humanely, I believe that it would be inhumane to the human race to stop animal research...

Animal Testing

...Animal Testing Over 70 million animals die each year from animal testing. Although many animals have died during the course of animal testing, many things have been improved or have benefitted from animal testing including medicine. Animal testing also affects everyone in more than one way. Animals are not just used for testing in the United States; they are used all over the world for animal testing. Animal testing is a social justice issue that has improved medical research, but has resulted in the killing of many animals. Animal testing is the testing of cosmetic products, cleaning products, agricultural research, dog and cat food trials, weapons tests, aerospace studies, and car crash simulations (PETA). One might feel animal testing is cruel, but almost the whole world has benefitted from vaccines. It has also led to the treatment of some diseases. Animal testing can sometimes end with mixed outcomes. Many people have died because drugs or treatments that have successfully passed tests conducted on animals have failed on humans. Many alternatives to animal testing exist. Some alternatives include using computer models and using tissue cultures in research. During some of the experiments, some animals are given medicine so the animals do not feel pain or distress. However, thousands are not. The experiments preformed can be painful, damaging, and deadly to the animals used (B 5-9). Animal testing is an issue all around the world. In Great Britain, more than 2.5 million...

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing

...“He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.” ― Immanuel Kant. Likewise, we can judge the amount of justice animals get in animal testing. While some believe animals should be tested on because it is necessary, most test on animals are not necessary, fail often, and are inhumane. Tests on animals are not necessary and are incorrect. First of all, most experiments are flawed; 87% of animal tests fail, causing animal lives to be sacrificed for nothing, according to procon.org. This means that people are being inconsiderate about wasted animals subjects. In the same fashion, 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials anyways. To add, there are many alternatives to animal testing, and new technology that does not require animal subjects. WIth all these failed tests, animals are dying for...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...Is Testing Products on Animals Wrong? Animals are pets to most. We care for them and treat them like our own. Most people have a pet that they love and could not imagine their life without. But, just imagine your pet being an experiment. Animals are used for research for medicine, chemicals, cosmetics, etc. everyday. Animals are being killed everyday due to research. A lot of people believe that using animals as a research experiment is wrong and some believe it is a necessary procedure. Even though animal testing supposedly has a lot of benefits, animal testing is not always accurate and almost always harms the animals. Animals are used everyday for research. That means that millions of animals are being held captive and injured during this procedure. Most believe that this is inhumane and not accurate. Using animals for research is not always accurate. Studies show that “95% of drugs that pass the animal testing stage are immediately discarded because they are useless or harmful to humans” (Stachura 1). Animals and humans are different, that is what it comes down to. Just because a medication did not harm an animal does not mean it will not harm a human. There are more than 100,000 deaths a year in America from FDA-approved medications (Archibald 1)....

Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing

...Animal Lives Matter Would you like to be abused daily to the point of death? The life of an animal that is used for research is very bleak. These animals are isolated in cages and the only time they’re out of them is to be poked and prodded with needles and infected with diseases meant to kill them. For that reason, animals should not be used for research and testing because they receive inhumane treatment, they have different physiology, and animals have rights. Animals should not be tested and researched on because the treatment they receive is inhumane. They are isolated, immobilized, forced to inhale toxic fumes, confined, and deprived of the natural life they deserve. ...indifferent to them; that’s the essence of inhumanity” (Shaw). The use of animals in research and developmental projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs is substandard. Animal testing is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is going to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm. Animal experiments are not the same as taking a live animal to the vet; animals used in laboratories are deliberately harmed, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. Animal experiments include force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposure to radiation, surgically removing animal organs, forcing animals to inhale toxic gases, and subjecting animals too frightening situations to...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...For my topic, it is going to be animal testing. Animals don’t deserve to be hurt or potentially killed. Animal testing, in my opinion, is a horrible thing to do. There is something wrong with people if they think that animal cruelty is right. I feel like that is what animal testing is, it is animal cruelty, it is hurting the animal and at sometimes it can even kill it. It would be the same as if i went up to your dog and put potentially harmful chemicals in your dog. I know that putting an animals life in danger is better than putting a humans life in danger. But that is why we are advancing to be able to do testing in simulations. An animals life is still a precious thing to have. There is at most 2 million different animal types in this...
