Annotated Bibliography of Sources Discussing the Popularity of Zombieland
Thesis: The major historical changes in America today have made the time right for Zombieland to be produced by the development of video games, clothing lines, make-up designs, and adrenaline rush in horror films in our generation. From George Romero’s (1968) film, Night of the Living Dead zombie movie to present day zombie movie, Ruben Fleischer (2009) film, Zombieland, zombie movies have become very popular because people want to experience a zombie apocalypse. The success of this film delivers entertainment, interests, and desires for the people that are big fans of zombies with survival guidelines throughout the movie on how to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Balaji, Murali. Thinking Dead: What the Zombie Apocalypse Means. Lanham: Lexington Books, 2013. Print.
This book discusses how over time zombies have become popular to American culture. Zombies became so popular that it “has a way of seizing upon our anxieties and apprehensions and delivering content that reflects these fears while still entertaining us” (17). Present day America calls the entertainment of a film, adrenaline. In this case “the time is ripe for the rebirth of zombie culture” (17), to deliver the adrenaline to all audience, especially the younger generation. The facts from this book will be useful to my essay since it describes the adrenaline they deliver to the audience to be entertained and who they target their entertainment on, the younger generation.

Boluk, Stephanie and Lenz, Wylie. “Generation Zombie. Essays on the Living Dead in Modern Culture.” Jefferson: McFarland & Company, Inc. 2011. Print.

The thesis of this book discusses how today’s generation is preparing for a real life zombie apocalypse. By observing how people prepare for zombie invasions or biochemical warfare, people are getting “advice on handling an outbreak” (1) from books, social media, and documentaries to survive. Others however, think that “a zombie apocalypse allows for a workplace revenge fantasy that gives expression to much darker and more violent desires” (2). Thus, making it a bit sketchy if humanity is ready for a zombie apocalypse in the future due to the fantasies of other humans being able to do whatever they please. This information will be useful for my essay to display the desires and readiness of humans waiting for a zombie outbreak to happen since zombies have become so popular that humans are waiting to meet them one day.

Dockterman, Eliana. "Zombieland Is Getting A Sequel." Time.Com 2014: 1. Academic Search Premier. Web. 1 Dec. 2015.

The magazine article discusses the possibility of there being a sequel to the popular (2009) zombie movie, Zombieland. Although, the return of “the actors from the original cult hit”, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin is still questionable. Since all actors have been busy with other films in their career there is hardly any time to determine whether or not they can make the film. A sequel has been announced since after five years from the release of the first Zombieland film “zombies have only gotten more popular.” This magazine will be very helpful to express the popularity of Zombieland using zombies.

Kelley, Carter. "Harrelson was reluctant to travel to 'Zombieland'." USA Today n.d.: Academic Search Premier. Web. 2 Dec. 2015.

The article discusses how Woody Harrelson slowly began to take interest in being in Zombieland since “zombie films – not his favorite genre.” Director, Rubin Fleischer, had to slowly convince Harrelson into making the movie since he thought he was right for the part. After agreeing to do the film, Harrelson enjoyed making the movie with the cast members, had a lot of fun in the process and “says he couldn’t be happier.” This article will help support my essay with the fact that zombie movies or zombies in general can attract mostly anyone, even those who say they don’t like zombies.

Markovitz, Adam. "Emma Stone." Entertainment Weekly 2010: 82-83. Academic Search Premier. Web. 2 Dec. 2015.

The article discusses how people began to recognize Emma Stone from the movie (2009) Zombieland film as “that girl from Zombieland.” Since so many people recognized her from the zombie movie and zombie movies attract so many people, you could say it did her a really big favor. Not only for popularity but to also help her in her career as a successful actress to be noticed by other big films. As a result, “that all changed with her first starring role as the quick-witted Olive in Easy A” which helped her to be well noticed by so many people with the attraction of zombies. This is also very helpful for my essay because it tells how a zombie movie attracted so many people that helped Emma Stone become a well-known actress to so many people.

Markovitz, Adam. "Woody Harrelson." Entertainment Weekly 2009: 68-69. Academic Search Premier. Web. 1 Dec. 2015.

The magazine article is about an interview with Woody Harrelson about his personal views about making the movie. Not to mention a personal achievement of his for winning the Best Supporting Actor award. Harrelson proclaims that the movie, Zombieland, was a breakthrough for him since he mentions, “I had 16 years where I didn’t have a hit.” He also mentions one of his best memories of 2009 was when he went to see Zombieland for the first time in a big theater and he enjoyed the response of the people, he describes the feeling as, “being at some great rock concert.” This article is useful for my essay because it describes how the film that deals with zombies helped Woody Harrelson in scoring another big hit movie.

Spines, Christine. "Woody Harrelson." Entertainment Weekly 2009: 39. Academic Search Premier. Web. 2 Dec. 2015.

This article discusses how the actor Woody Harrelson played as a hillbilly zombie killer in the film and stills loves to role play as a zombie killer. Being “a pacifist and an environmentalist” isn’t why Harrelson doesn’t like zombie movies it’s just that he doesn’t have any interest in that genre; until his agent told him to just read the script. After doing so he found the movie film very fun. One day he punched a paparazzi in the face and used the movie to apologize for still being “in character and thought the guy was a zombie.” This will be very helpful for my essay because it describes how people do dumb things accidentally or purposely when they get way into “zombie apocalypse” mode.

Salviolo’s ideal view that “condemns male quarrelsomeness as irrational when it pursues personal revenge rather than godly truth and justice” is a source for both tragic and comic elements in the play (189). ...Annotated Bibliography Garrison, Jr., Joseph M. The Past and Present in “That Evening Sun”. Studies in Short Fiction; Summer76, Vol. 13 Issue 3, p371, 3p. Joseph Garrison created a fairly accurate interpretation of the perceptions presented in the story of “That Evening Sun.” He clearly presented his explanations and arguments for why he believed that the story is written more from the boy Quentin’s point of view rather than that of the older Quentin that is presented at the beginning of the story. Reading supporting articles can sometimes be necessary when reading older classic stories. Faulkner is one of those that sometimes require background reading. Garrisons accurate perceptions of the writings make him a highly recommended source to return to. He took the story “That Evening Sun” and carefully examined and explained several of the areas in the story. For example he explained the staircase scene from the point of view of Quentin. Garrison explains why Quentin keeps returning to Nancy’s hands. Garrison’s evaluation of the text helps the reader understand the underlying issues that present themselves throughout the story. This article along with the story “That Evening Sun” could be utilized in a classroom setting as a learning tool and would work great for writing a bibliography. It can also be used for studying the ways that works were written during different times. There is so much that could be pulled from this single piece to build upon and assist a writer in...

...“My Last Duchess” Annotated Bibliography 1 When Lou Thompson’s wrote his article titled Browning’s MY LAST DUCHESS he wanted to compare the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning with the poem by Geoffrey Chaucer called The Book of the Duchess. Thompson talks about the “obvious parallels” (Thompson) it has In his article he describes the differences and similarities between the two men in the poems. In lines 21-24 of My Last Duchess and lines 873-875 of Book of the Duchess there are resemblances. In both poems the speakers describe their wives, which similarly they were both duchess’s and both have passed away. Both poems deal with the gladness and the looks of the women, and even the word ‘glad’ appears in both excerpts in a line-final position. The descriptions, however, are incompatible as Chaucer’s poem praises the wife “for were she never so glad, Hyr lokynge was not foly sprad, Ne wildely, thogh that she pleyde” (Chaucer). In Robert Browning’s My Last Duchess, the duke does the opposite “She had/A heart—how shall I say?—too soon made glad—she liked whate’er/ She looked on, and her looks went everywhere” (Browning). Thompson goes on to compare the two poems by explaining the two men’s concerns with their wives’ and how beautiful both women in the poems were. The knight in the Chaucer’s poem worships his duchess while the Duke in Browning’s poem does not. Thompson also states how the Black Knight in Chaucer’s poem grieves for his dead wife and the Duke has no sympathy......
