During the antebellum era, women of both colors, black and white, experienced the same segregation from men. All women of color were responsible of domestic work such as taking care of the children, the house, and the whole family in general. “All women were expected to be the guardian of nursery and companion of childhood.” (Doc F) This caused the women of the antebellum period to be confined in their homes and rarely show their faces to the public much less have a part in politics, leaving them with little to no opportunities that are given to the men.
