Anxiety disorder is a mental illness that causes people to be scared and distress in certain situations. Anxiety disorders can cause depression, low self esteem, alcohol abuse; drug abuse and isolation from love ones. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illnesses in America: they affect around 20 percent of the population at any given time. Fortunately, there are many good treatments for anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, some people do not seek treatment for their illness because they do not realize how severe their symptoms are or are too ashamed to seek help. Furthermore, these disorders are often difficult to recognize for friends, family and even some doctors (Nami, 2012). I am sure everyone has experienced some form of anxiety.
In my anxiety assessment, I was asked questions such as: Am I troubled by excessive worrying about events at work, school or home. It also asked was I bothered by at least three of the following, being easily tired, restlessness, and irritability. Do I feel sad, depress or worthless about anything. My responses to all of these questions was no. I only had one question that I answered that was yes. I do have problems concentrating at times. My results of my assessment were a score of a seventeen. Zero through twenty results was that there were no presents of anxiety. Twenty one through forty meant low anxiety. Forty-one through sixty resulted that is some form of anxiety related systems. Sixty-one through eighty, you should go to a medical evaluator. Eighty-one through one hundred means you do have an anxiety disorder. Get some help for yourself. My score indicated there was no anxiety disorder present.
I had no areas in improvement, but people who are suffering from this illness can do aerobic exercise, yoga, take a walk in a park, consult your doctor, and get some medication if need be. The steps I would take is to consult my doctor if exercise don’t work. I love to exercise and that seems to calm me down.
Two Resources in my community for health service, assessment, and counseling are Linsay-Blair Simmons. As stated by Linsay –Bair Simmons(2012), “I love working with women and all of the unique issues they encounter throughout their lives.” “Whether it’s enhancing a woman’s self esteem, helping her set healthy boundaries, or aiding her in addressing her overall unhappiness in life.” She practices in Columbia SC 29201 at phone number (615)601-2433. “I am an African American male and retired military.” “As a licensed professional counselor, I provide canceling for a variety of emotional and mental issues that include anxiety disorders, Bipolar, Depression, and Childhood Disorders from ages five and above.”Roni Caw (2012). In the past year, I have experienced three stressful situations in my life. The lost of my beloved brother-in-law and Pastor, the lost of my job, and dealing with one of my client’s son. On August 4th, 2012 my beloved brother-in- law passed away uninspectantly. He was 42 years old and left behind my sister and four children. He was not only a sweet brother-in-law but he was my pastor. It was very stressful trying to keep my sister from losing her mind because it was not expected. We all ask the question “why Lord.” It was stressful not knowing who was going to lead us now. He was our Sheppard and we were the flock of his sheep. We all felt lost without him. It impacted our lives very much. My sister became depressed and lost a lot of weight. I lost weight trying to run around with her and help her with things because we were not prepared for this. We started meeting with the family more often and until this day, we call each other and say “I love you.” We now realize that tomorrow is not promise and life is too short. So cherish your love ones while they are still here on earth. Brother-in-law, you are in a better place now and we love you.
Second, I lost my job of ten years in October, 2012. This put a lot of stress and anxiety on me. I was so anxious to find another job until I became ill. My husband was also stress too because I could no longer help him with the bills. I was so used to going in the store and buying the luxuries of life. It brought down and made me realize that life has a way of throwing a curb at you. It also made me appreciate things more. I began to get depress. Then one day, I said let me get up from here and find me something. I found me a job and still have this job.
A third stressful situation I encountered was my client’s son. I work for Dynamic Hospice. I deal with the terminal ill patients in their home. The son had me doing above and beyond what I was supposed to do. At first, I accepted it but it was starting to get out of hand. So I went to my supervisor and complained. They called him and told him all I was supposed to do. He did not like it so he began to call the job and tell lies on me. I got wrote up on numerous occasions because of him. I was so stress that I would come home to my husband and cry. I was so disturbed until it affected my quality of work with my other clients. In order to solve my situation and stress, I started to document everything I did for his parents. So he could not lie anymore.
Stress can cause a lot of health problems. It can lead to some kind of anxiety in your life. If you take a walk in the park or do some yoga exercise, consult your doctor and take medication it can reduce the anxiety that occurs in your life.
