Part – VI : Organizational Design, Competences and Technology:

# Technology:
Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a pre-existing solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, including machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. Hence, technology is the combination of skills, knowledge, abilities, techniques, materials, machines, computers, tolls, and other equipments that people use to convert or change raw materials into valuable goods and service.

Inside an organization, technology exists at three levels: individual, functional or departmental, and organizational. At the individual level, technology is the personal skills, knowledge, and competencies that individual employee possess. At the functional or departmental level, the procedures and technique that the groups work out to perform their work create competences that constitute technology. The interactions of the members in a team, their cooperative efforts and techniques developed and used are technologies at functional level. Similarly, the way an organization converts inputs into outputs is used to characterize technology at the organizational level. Mass production is the organizational technology based on competences in using a standardized, progressive assembly process to manufacture goods. Craftwork is the technology that involves groups of skilled workers, interacting closely and blending their competences to produce custom-designed products.

# Technology and Organizational Effectiveness:
Organizations are always involves in a process: Input, Transformation and Output. Organizations take inputs from the environment and create

Who's Fault Is It Anyway?

...Whose Fault is it Anyway? Death is an element of life. Somewhere on the planet, someone just died. There is always a reason for death: a carcrash, a sickness, murder, etc. In Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Veldt”, the parents of the two children, George and Lydia Hadley, die. It is known that they are slaughtered by lions but does not say if it was an accident or not. The fault lies on the parents because they did not involve themselves in their children’s lives enough. They let the Happy Life Home raise their children and let their children do whatever they wish. The bad parenting in the story, is the reason for the characters’ violent deaths. Letting their Happy Life Home raise the children, leads to George and Lydia Hadley’s deaths. When George and Lydia are talking about the house, Lydia states that the “house is wife and mother now, and nursemaid. Can I compete with and African Veldt? Can I bathe and scrub the children as efficiently or quickly as the automatic scrub bath can?” (Bradbury 78). She is admitting that her children have been raised mostly by the Happy Life home and not by their mother. George has been working since the time period is the story takes place in the 1950s. The parents let their house raise their children which, ultimately led to their deaths. Additionally, the children are not disciplined or punished by the parents, which leads to the parents’ deaths. When George Hadley warns his son, Peter, that he needs to behave or the house will be turned...

Whose Life Is It Anyway

...1) Describe and characterize Ken Harrison: Ken was a sculptor before the car accident. He has been hospitalised for 6 months and is now paralysed from the neck down. He’s a patient at the hospital, and he’s an old man, who wants to feel young and who misses ”the old times”. He’s a person who jokes a lot: “You’ll just have to make do with my backside …” (p. 7, line 6), “Have me on the floor Sister please.” (p. 7, last line), “Who said anything about a bikini?” (p. 31, line 29). All those jokes is a perfectly example of how much pervert he is. Ken hates his life because of his situation and would rather die than being hospitalised: “Can’t you see that this is why I’ve decided that life isn’t worth living? I am not human and I’m even more convinced of that by your visit than I was before, so how does that grab you? The very exercise of your so-called professionalism makes me want to die.” (p. 34, line 28-34) and another example is at page 43, Act 2: “I therefore want to be discharged to die.” (Line 16). His career and his passion, depends on his ability to move. Kens situation is that, he is sentenced to be in a hospitals bed for the rest of his life. He is suffering mentally and wants to be discharged from the hospital. Dr. Emerson, a consultant physician, won’t allow him to be discharged because he has no chance of survival in the condition he is in. 2) Do you think Ken’s personality and background helps or hinders the play’s discussion of free will? I think, that...

What Does a Music Producer Do, Anyway ?

...The term ‘music producer’ means different things to different people. Some are musicians, some are engineers, some are remixers. So what does a music producer actually do ? In very pragmatic terms, the producer is a ‘project manager’ for the recording, mixing and mastering process. She has an overall vision for the music, the sound and the goals of the project, and brings a unique perspective to inspire, assist and sometimes provoke the artists. The producer should make the record more than the sum of it’s parts – you could almost say she is trying to create musical alchemy. Every producer brings different skills and a different approach, and this can make what they do difficult to summarise. In this post I’ve identified seven distinct types of record producer to try and make this clearer. 1. The Engineer This is probably most people’s stereotypical idea of the “classic” record producer – hunched over a mixing desk, obsessing about compression settings, reverb tails and drum sounds. The studio is an instrument, and the producer “plays” it like a virtuoso, working late into the night to create a mysterious sonic masterpiece. In fact this is often far from the norm though, as we’ll see. 2. The Mentor Rick Rubin Many producers don’t claim any technical expertise at all. Rick Rubin is a well-known example – despite being a self-confessed audiophile, he doesn’t actually sit at the desk on the records he produces, but instead specifically chooses different...

Standardized Testing: The Negative Effects Of Stress On Students

...Have you ever had to sit at an uncomfortable desk for hours ? I think that students should not have to take standardized tests. we/students take so many tests throughout the year what is even the point in taking a bigger one at the end of the year. Also why does the state, even need to know how smart we are anyway, I mean they try to trick us with the questions anyway. And according to News ELA students spend around 20-25 hours on the test every year and that puts a lot of stress on students. First standardized test puts a lot of stress on students. One way it puts stress on students is that they have to worry about getting penalized for not doing great on test. Also parents and teachers complain about them. Another reason is that testing...

Restorative Theory: Why Do We Sleep?

...This theory is “based on the long-held belief that sleep in some way serves to “restore” what is lost in the body while we are awake” (Why Do We Sleep, Anyway?). This theory states that when we sleep, the body gains a recovery state which allows it to repair itself and rejuvenate it from the previous day. Some of the effects if we don’t sleep are: “additional depression, feeling inferiority, anxiety and irritablity, difficulty concentrating and forgetfulness, loss of spontancirrty, flexibility, delusions/inaccurate perception of reality, weight gain/loss, premature aging, longer or frequent illness” (The effects…). Or even worse, death. According to the article on sleep off Mayo Clinic, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that more than 100,000 crashes are due to people falling asleep behind the wheel. When we sleep, the body clears adenosine, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep from the...

Character Analysis Of Atticus Finch In To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee

...In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is a wise father. At one point during the book while he was talking to his son, Jem, he says, “It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.” He was explaining to Jem what real courage is and why it is important to know the real definition of it. Atticus’ description of courage is not a man holding a gun. He said that even though you know that you are going to fail before you start, but you do it anyway and finish hard. This is a valuable concept. This means that you cannot be perfect to have courage; you do not have to worry about being good enough to have the label of courage. Courage can come in many different ways, even as players for a soccer team....

Persuasive Essay On Lockers

...Teenagers as a whole tend to be more curious. They are willing to try and attempt things that adults, with more experience on their side, have the common sense to know are wrong. In the same sense, teens often don’t understand the magnitude of their actions- something like having drugs in their locker may not seem like an issue that could ruin their lives forever- but it is. Therefore I do believe school authorities should be able to search students lockers. If it were a more personal area, I would find it to be an infringement of privacy, but there shouldn’t be much in someone’s locker aside from books and school supplies anyway. Therefore a search should result in nothing drastic for either party. The main reason there should be no worry in the searching of school lockers is the fact...

My Dog

...feet are on the counter and he’s running away with my delicious cookie (with a glut of sugar in it. I guess it was good I didn’t get to eat it?) Anyways, I’ve had a productive day. Yesterday (Saturday), after sitting on my floor using my iPod and texting, going on social media, and playing mobile-phone games all day, I realized that - even though I could succumb to sitting on my floor doing nothing (which is a lot easier than doing something way more interesting) – actually doing something productive with my life makes me feel a lot better about myself. Now I like to switch back and forth from different times as I write. Like right now I can hear people playing softball at the school, each one of them vying for their team to win. And the fact that my dog stole my cookie has left me discombobulated and not being able to focus on a single sentence, as I long for that cookie, with its not-so-subtle sugary flavor. I even put blue food coloring on the dough so I could have a blue cookie and nope my dog ate it. Thanks jasper. He steals everything though. We’ve tried everything, but he still steals. He even sole one of those metal sponges! And not only does he steal everything (and I’m not lying, he steals everything), he eats it too! HE ATE A METAL, WIRE SPONGE. HOW DID THAT FEEL GOING DOWN HIS ESOPHOGAS. I BET NOT THAT GOOD. ANYWAYS, I FORGOT TO TURN CAPS LOCK OFF. And ‘off’ is such a weird word. It can be used in many ways, and it can be used as opposites of itself. Examples:...
