Apollo Case

...1996 Apollo Hospitals of India (A) Dr. Prathap Reddy's office was filled with flowers. The tags conveyed birthday greetings from employees of Apollo Hospitals Madras and former patients, including the vice president of India. Reddy greeted a steady parade of well-wishers and paused to chat warmly by telephone with a former janitor who had called from the United States. Throughout the day, employees greeted “the Chairman” with smiles, hugs, and gifts. Dr. Reddy had founded Apollo Hospitals Madras in 1983 as the first corporate hospital in India. It offered sophisticated treatment in a comprehensive range of medical specialties. Stateof-the-art medical technology, operated by skilled technicians, complemented superior doctors, many of whom had left lucrative jobs in Europe and North America to come to Apollo. Other entrepreneurs had followed Apollo into the market, building several dozen corporate hospitals to compete with Apollo and its government-run forerunners. Since Apollo’s founding, the quality of medical care in India had improved substantially for those who could pay. Despite competition, though, Apollo Hospitals Madras remained a leader in the provision of top-quality medical care and had made a profit for 10 straight years. Reddy had been joined at Apollo by his four daughters, who took prominent roles in the company. Having introduced a new form of medical business to India, the family entered 1995 hoping to expand the availability of Apollo-quality...

The Apollo Group Case Study

...Name: Jack Brendon Instructor: Date: 08.10.2013 Case: The Apollo Group Major issues and problem * The primary problem UoP faces increased competition from both traditional not for profit universities as well as for profit universities as recently both private and public institution have expanded their part time and online offerings to adults, which was exclusively their competitive advantage earlier. Now students are seeking education with most up to date technology and with a renowned accreditation and UoP does not comes in either of those therefore they have to re-examine their focus market and continue their competitive advantage. * There is a lot of negative promotion and bad image associated with the Apollo group like “low standard education” by public universities and the media. Also according to the research conducted 95% of the employer said that they would rather hire a graduate who has done traditional in class graduation as compared to online graduation. * The new regulatory norms which are introduced now is likely to clash with UoP current condition as they are very close to 90% limit of federal fund and they are already above the stated 45% loan repayment rate. * The regulatory agencies had enormous power and could destroy the legitimacy of UoP programs by refusing to grant accreditation to the sponsoring institutions Suggested Alternatives and Implementation * The first alternative is to focus on the market focus which is...

First off, we will need a tax expert to come in and help with the audit. Our audit team has some experience with tax, but nothing past a basic level. Due to this, a tax expert will need to be brought in to audit Apollo’s tax documents. We will also require the assistance of a manufacturing expert, preferably somebody with experience in the shoe industry. Apollo recently started to manufacture some of their products in house and this will be the first time the manufacturing department will be audited. We need somebody, with knowledge of accounting for manufacturing operations, to help audit the manufacturing branch. In mid-2010, Apollo implemented a new computer system to aid the business. Due to this, we need to bring in an IT specialist. Our partner Mr. Anderson is extremely unfamiliar with the computing process, so it will benefit not just this audit, but our firm as a whole to bring in an...

Hermes Greek God

...smart for such a young baby. (Russell, 1992). While out on his adventure, Hermes came across a bunch of cows grazing in a field. The cows turned out to be owned by his brother Apollo. Hermes thought it would be funny to play a joke on Apollo. He decided to steal his cows. Since Hermes was so smart he decided to pad the cow’s feet and walk them backwards. He did this so Apollo would be confused and wouldn’t know which way the cows had gone. (Russell, 1992). The effort it took to pad and move all of the cows made Hermes very hungry. Hermes decided to put his clever ideas to good use again so he invented fire. He cooked and ate one of Apollo’s cows. Eating the cow definitely satisfied Hermes hunger. He decided to bring the rest of the cows’ home with him in case he got hungry again. ("Hermes", 2000-2011). While traveling home the cows were mooing in a musical way that made them sound like they were singing. Hermes saw a tortoise shell on the ground and he had another witty idea. He invented the first lyre out of the tortoise shell and string. It played wonderful music. He was playing the lyre when Apollo found him. ("Hermes Greek God", 2011). Apollo was very angry at Hermes for stealing his cows. When Apollo, who was a god of music, heard the music from the lyre he immediately loved it. As an apology to Apollo for stealing his cows, Hermes decided to give him...

Knowledge and Its Limitations

...April 2012 Knowledge and its Limitations Greeks could never know exactly what their gods were up to, so they often had to travel to visit oracles that were able to give them insight. Greeks saw knowledge as a form of power that helped them gain some control over their lives. To ancient Greeks knowledge was such an important aspect of life they had a divinity symbolize it. Apollo was the god of knowledge and medicine, in many Greek myths the quest for knowledge, or attaining too much knowledge altogether was a common source of tragedy. Ancient Greek cultures believed that even if mortals had the knowledge they sought, once they acquired it they did not know what to do with it. There are many examples in Greek myth that plainly show how knowledge eventually leads to tragedy. For instance, Oedipus’ search for knowledge of the king’s murderer ends up becoming his demise and the major source of pain in his life. Oedipus needed to find out why Thebes was suffering from a plague, so he sent Creon to the temple of Delphi to ask Apollo what he could do to life the plague from his people. As the oracle of Apollo Tiresias goes to Thebes and tells him that the person responsible for the death of the prior king, king Laius was living amongst them, and the plague would only be lifted once they found the murderer. In the quest for the knowledge that would save his people, King Oedipus summoned the messenger that was given the task of killing the newborn son of King Laius (in an attempt to...

The Role of the Gods in the Iliad

...In the era of Homer, divine intervention was thought to be typical, and one of his foremost works, The Iliad, reflects this. Nearly all of the Greek gods are involved in the outcome of the Trojan War, which happens to be the background story of this epic poem. The gods are used by Homer to add twists on an otherwise standard plot of war. Evidently, the gods will be a powerful source of divine intervention and their actions certainly have significant outcomes on the Trojan War, and more importantly, the story of The Iliad. Zeus, very untypical of a Greek god in his lack of involvement in the Trojan War for selfish reasons, was portrayed as the father figure, being impartial and fair to both sides of the war. He remains this way to serve as a check for the other god's involvement in the war. Without the presence of fate controlling the inner circle of Olympus, it is likely that the activity of the Trojan War would have become chaotic, possibly even becoming a playground of war for the gods. The power of fate, above all of the other gods combined, is a power that not even divine intervention can prevent. This theme of fate and how it controls the god’s actions is quite befitting to the storyline of The Iliad. The Iliad, in essence, recounts the story of part of the tenth year of the Trojan War. It recounts of the anger of Achilles, the greatest warrior present at Troy, and of the background battle that is ensuing. The reoccurring theme in the Iliad is that no matter whom the character...

Epithets In Gilgamesh Essay

...Cities where especially important to ancient Greek civilization- they were the primary spheres of influence in their time; a time of city states. Her basic contention is that there are certain words that are epithets but are seen as just descriptions. For example, The Greek word for “walled” is eureiyeos. So the epithet for Troy in this case would be “the walled city”. Bowra explains that “the absence of [this] from the description of other cities does not indicate that they lacked walls but rather that those of Troy were of particular importance- this is obviously helps explain why it took the Acheans ten years to capture it” (Bowra pg.17). The other words are that of euounros, which is towers. Again, the same concept, its not that other cities didn’t have towers its just that those of the city of Troy were that...

I know that Pandora was created because of a disagreement between gods leaving a need for revenge. Gods of Management

...Organisational Leadership Mattersey Hall Gods Of Management Charles Handy, in “Gods of Management”, attempts to classify four distinct management cultures that exist within all organizations. He uses the ancient Greek gods to symbolize these management cultures or philosophies. There are four types of management cultures or philosophies present within all organizations. The four cultures are the club (Zeus), role (Apollo), task (Athena), and existential (Dionysus) cultures. The first culture Handy discusses is the club or Zeus culture. He uses a spider web to represent the club culture. “[T]he lines radiating out from the centre” represent “divisions of work based on functions or products” (Handy p14). The most important lines however “are the encircling [lines], the ones that surround the spider in the middle, for these are the lines of power and influence, losing importance as they go farther from the centre. The relationship with the spider matters more in this culture than does any formal title or position description” (Handy p14). Handy also maintains that this type of culture is excellent for “speed of decisions” (Handy p15). However, because of its speed, quality is dependent upon Zeus and his inner circle. This results in an emphasis being placed upon the selection and succession of Zeus. The club culture achieves its speed through empathy. This in turn leads to very little documentation within the organization and face-to-face meetings between Zeus and his subordinates...
