• What are the advantages of having diversity in a collaborative learning environment?

Honestly, there are many advantages to having diversity in the learning environment. Everyone has different perspectives, when then applied to reaching solutions, its can increase problem-solving skills. The positive relationships between people from different nationalities and different backgrounds can be increased through working together to achieve one goal, and if there is respect, appreciation, and a commitment to equality held by everyone involved. An added benefit is that there will be a decreasing number of people stereotyping and prejudice through collaborative contact. With people that have been brought up with a narrow view of the world, working with people from different cultural backgrounds can develop a deeper understanding of the different types of viewpoints that everyone might have.

• How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration?

Diversity can affect collaboration in a negative way, if the people involved are unwilling to put aside any of the differences they might have with one another. If a bad attitude is involved, or they dwell on these differences, and let them get in the way of effective collaboration, then it brings a great hindrance to the learning process for everyone. Some people may also have conflicting learning and work styles. That can lead to a lack of cohesiveness within any group, and the work that is produced can suffer. For there to be full advantages of working collaboratively to be realized, there has to be a certain understanding in the group that the ultimate goal of being work that is produced be quality work, and the willingness to make compromises that may be needed to fully achieve a goal that is a integral part of the effective collaboration.

• How does personal responsibility influence the work and success of a group?

Personal responsibility influences the work and success of any group, because if you are lazy and a slacker you will instinctively let anyone else takes over. It is known that you will find if one or two people that do not take responsibility for their share of the work, anyone else in the group are forced to pick up the risk of the group failing. That in itself may lead anyone to resentment and bad feelings, hence affecting the communication and ultimately the success of the group. It also helps the effective fulfillment of the goal that has been set by the group. Assignment of the roles according to an individual’s capacity in the group ensures that tasks are being completed as a result of teamwork. It also greatly builds trust among everyone in the group.
