“Uphold these principles, ever conscious that public office is a public trust.” When there is no trust, what’s left is the door and opportunity to corruption and evasion of persecution till sometimes it’s way too late. That is why “There is a code of ethics that was unanimously passed by the United States Congress on June 27, 1980, and signed into law as Public Law 96-303 by the President on July 3, 1980.” ("34 CFR Part 73, Appendix to Part 73 - Code of Ethics for Government Service"). With that being said let’s look at the code of ethics. It says “put loyalty to the highest moral principles”, yet we see too often public officials in high ranking positions just doing the opposite. You would think a ranking official would uphold this code of …show more content…
We often see official’s shirking their duties for bigger pay reward; while, many lower paid employees work harder for less money; sometimes, even taking pay cuts due to budget cuts, but not the higher ranking official’s. Why are they above reproach while the blue collar man suffers? , Martha N. Johnson, head of the General Services Administration, fired two top GSA officials and then resigned herself after it was revealed that $822,000 had been spent in Las Vegas on a four day training conference for 300 GSA employees. “Seek to find and employ more efficient and economical ways of getting tasks accomplished”. More too often it means budget cuts or cutting corners. When I was researching about Congressmen and their duties, I found this website http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/11/so-youve-won-election-to-congressnow-what/382421/ and was blown away by the information. Can you imagine it even says you have to grovel for a spot…wait what happened? Where’s the code of ethics, the issue. It sounds more like gaining favoritism and joining the crowd of many which outweighs the few. Do I see Spock somewhere in this? Did you read about the private meetings? Okay, let’s reread this and talk about ethics???? Hard day’s work for a good pay? I feel like we just fell through the hole into Alice and Wonderland…. So March 31st is about money and getting it from important companies who wait basically ask you to be unethical and look the opposite way and cut them some favors…didn’t we just say that we have to adhere to a code of ethics…this is what we need to change….Do I sound like I fell off the subject, no merely letting you know that as easy as it should sound it’s not as easy as you think. So much unethical and backdoor peddling is in our government and those that have tried to be honest get swallowed up whole and
