Part II

Answer each question in 250 to 350 words:

1. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?

People are identified in numerous of ways. Some are identified by the color of their skin, like blacks are identified as being African Americans; whites are identified as being causation. While there are still many other ways to identify people, like most Muslim men that I see in my area are dressed in suits with bow ties on. Muslim women are covered from head to toe in clothing; the only thing that is revealed is their face. Some people are also identified as what religion they are; you have Jews, Baptist, Apostolic, Atheist, etc. People are identified as like the Indians they are called a tribe. Even nationality, now sometimes people are identified by where they come from like; if someone comes from a poor neighborhood, the project they are identified as the poor. Now the most that people are identified by is how they present themselves. Some people present themselves as well conservative people; some present themselves as gang members or thugs. When it comes down to it there are more ways than we can count that people are grouped and identified by. Often we even group people not based on the things above but by the contents of their character. You have some people that are just honest people then you have some that you know that are not. One of the most common ways of groups being identified is male and female. We view the world of people in so many different ways, even the ones we as individuals have not learned about or explored to different countries.

2. Why do people label and group other people?

People are labeled and grouped by others for how they represent themselves. Other people as an individual place themselves in a group to be labeled, whether it’s good or bad. How a person carries themselves says a lot. For example you have some people labeled as a thug because they walk around with their clothes hanging under their behinds as if they have no moral or values in life. Or even labeled as “a rough neck” someone that will fight for any reason or don’t mind standing up for theme self. Some are labeled by the way they dress like if you see someone dressed in cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, then he is labeled as a country boy. It’s the image of ourselves that we put out that puts a label on us. Now for example, when you come across someone with big baggy clothes on and they are in the store it’s a chance you will think he is a theft, or women that carry big purses are a theft and not all the time that me the case. If you present yourself as a well respectable person regardless of what color you are that’s what you will be labeled with. Someone that reeks of alcohol will be labeled as a drunk. There are just so many labels that we place on others that we come across, whether we know them or not. How often do we label someone? Every time we go out the door and see someone that is different from us, dress different, or even act different we place a label on them most of them.

Veriform Appendix

...The vermiform appendix, more commonly known as the appendix, is a blind-ended tube connected to the caecum in the large intestine and is located in the right lower quadrant and is approximately 9cm long is considered a part of the digestive system (Derrickson, 2009). The appendix consists of a four layered tissue; from deep to sacrificial they are the mucosa, submucosa, muscularis and serosa (Derrickson, 2009). The appendix is considered a vestigial organ, an organ that once had an important role in past ancestors but no longer in present humans, and is thought to have had an important role in the digestion of plant matter (Ansaloni, Catena & Pinna, 2009). It is debated to currently have some role in immune functioning due to its association with the substantial lymphatic tissue, and for this reason is considered a part of the lymphatic system (Ansaloni, Catena & Pinna, 2009). As mentioned previously the appendix, in humans, is a vestigial organ and is no longer considered vital to human life and is commonly removed through surgery from acute appendicitis (Zissin et al., 2003). Acute appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, common symptoms include pain in the lower abdominal quadrant, nausea and vomiting. If left untreated the appendix can rupture or cause an abscess in the peritoneal cavity, which can in some circumstances lead to death (Hernandez, Jain, Rosiere, & Henderson, 2008). The process of relieving acute appendicitis is usually through surgery...

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions: • How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course? Currently, I approach weekly course reading material in a fairly unconventional way. My weekdays are usually incredibly hectic between my job of working with my clients and my day to day personal life with my children, so finding any quality reading time is hard during the day time hours. I generally have all reading material downloaded to my laptop in advance as we all should so I can get in a bit of reading time during my break time and my clients nap time. The problem with this is, even though it is quiet and my break time, there is still quite a bit of activity going on around me having to deal with small odds and ends, breaking any concentration I have and understanding of the text. I do get a small amount of time in peace when I get home and right before the kids get home after school in which I use to get in some reading and study time. This time is definitely quality time as my concentration is at its greatest and I can get something done. The night hours, usually after dinner, is where things have been really...

I think that one of the most common ways that people use to identify a group in the United States is by Gender and Race. This is because of very apparent physical differences that separate one group from another. It is easy to determine a difference of a group by Black, White or Hispanic. However, just because a person is white doesn’t necessarily mean that they are American. For example, a German male will have the same physical appearance as an American, or even a Polish male. Observing a group and focusing on behaviors, cultural patterns, and language can help determine a group by Ethnicity. In South America an Ethnic Group may...
