There are several tropes and archetypes in stories, many of which help compare certain stories with one another. This analysis will be focused on “The Task” which is a significant archetypal situation that describes a remarkable deed which typically guides a hero into their rightful position and is seen in both The Alchemist and Guardians of the Galaxy. The reason why it exists is so that the audience can understand the main focus of the story and what the characters try to do in order to reach it. Moreover, depending on the specific story, the task can often be forgotten and never returned to. For The Alchemist, Santiago’s main task, also known as his Personal Legend, was to find a hidden treasure in the Pyramids of Egypt. Consequently, the main focus of the story was whether he was going to survive the desert and find his treasure or not.
