...Homework and Testing 1 Homework and Testing Assigning Homework How much is too much? As with classroom assignments, homework should never be given as busy work. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Plus it takes away from their social time, which is an important part of growing up. Kids need to learn social skills. Too much homework causes stress, as you probably know very well by now. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. It is difficult to do homework in a house that has many distractions. Teachers need to work with parents and help students find a quiet space to do homework. Most professional organization in education agrees that homework should never exceed 10 - 20 minutes per day in grades K - 2. In grades 3 - 6 homework should never exceed 30 - 60 minutes per day. Another reason elementary school children do not benefit much from homework is...

...Homework 1 On the 19th of September on the year 1991 in a very small city hospital in Brazil a very handsome boy was born, and that boy is me. My name is ________, I grew up playing soccer and running around on the streets of Brazil. When I was about 16 years old I came to visit United States and it was love at first visit, and I decided to make this place my new home. I lived in Florida for the most part, my parents were always relocating due to their work. I went to four different high schools, and the last one of them was in Boston, MA where I graduated. After high school I took a 6 month brake from school to decide what profession I wanted to follow. After a long time contemplating my decision I chose Civil Engineering as my major and started at FIU. I started working at the age of 17 at a fast food restaurant (Pizza Hut), I worked there for quite some time until I had to leave because my parents were moving to Boston. Once in Boston I found a pizza hut very close to my house and I applied there. Needless to say I got the job. After that I moved back to Florida where I started working at a 4 star restaurant, then another restaurant. After some time working in the restaurant business I wanted to get experience in some other area, maybe in an area that would be related to civil engineering and help me in the future. Then I started working at a Hotel in Miami Beach as an ‘engineer’. Yes the tittle is very misleading because all I did was maintenance work, still it was......

...According to Fun Facts Publishing (Fun Facts Publishing) the “scrap booking industry is a $3 billion+ industry” and MyFamily.com (based on their October 15, 2003 press release) has over 1.25 million paid subscribers to their genealogy and family services. More and more users are focusing on their family and preserving their memories, which is also the same reason over 75% of camera users are taking pictures. (Marketing to Mom Page 5). The photo-imaging industry has shifted. Consumers are now using digital cameras for photos and the use of film based cameras have decreased. Retailers (online and local) have started to provide a digital archiving service that converts the older film based images into a newer digital media. The digital archive concept allows Kodak to move into the digital age with the same focus it had with the long-time strategy on its film products and may help to grow into emerging technologies as well. Digital cameras have transformed the consumer film industry and the idea of instantly printing, transferring, and archiving images has quickly drawn favor. Using hard drive space instead of film allows its user more flexibility and our imaging industry must follow suit. Based on information from the Photo Marketing Association International (PMAI), we can see the progression of younger generations switching to a digital system. Kodak and its retailers may not think this is a very good sign for the future, but retailers are noticing more and more......

Federal Archives

...MEMORY OF THE WORLD REGISTER The Federal Archives Fonds (Barbados) Ref N° 2008-01 PART A – ESSENTIAL INFORMATION 1 SUMMARY The West Indies Federation (1958-1962) was a political federation of ten territories in the Anglophone West Indies. Its formation signaled the beginning of a new era of decolonization for the region of the West Indies in the post-World War II period. The history of the West Indies is inextricably linked with the histories of other former British colonies, which include portions of Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America. The Federal Archives reflect the interconnectivity of these histories and document one of the decisive periods of twentieth century history when territories, under the colonial rule of the British Empire, first flexed their ‘political muscles’ and sought to become sovereign nation-states. Undoubtedly, the West Indies Federation shared some commonalities with other contemporary federations particularly with regard to issues such as constitutional reform and overcoming nationalist interests. However, the West Indian experience was unique and distinct from all others mainly as a result of the geographical separateness of the territories by sea and the insularity of the territories, which historically related bi-laterally with England. Additionally, there was the impact of extra- and intra-regional migrations on account of the colonial plantation economies that were...

Archives

...Archives are selected from among the great mass of records, and are preserved, for one primary reason so that they may be available for use by those needing the information they contain. During the past thirty years or so, many archives have moved away from what was essentially a passive stance (making records available on request if there was no objection by the transferring authorities to their use) to an active role involving efforts to make the research materials in their custody available as soon as national security and personal privacy considerations permit, undertaking outreach programs aimed at informing potential users of their content and availability, and actively encouraging the exploitation of archives as a means of bettering society therefore this essay is designed to discuss the statement that archives are old documents which have no value to society, this will be done by looking at the importance of archives it will first start by defining the key term which is archive. Existed since ancient times, According to James O’Toole (1990), the term “archives” was originally used to “designate all collections of written records”. In the modern world, however, the word “archives” is commonly used in three different senses. First, archives are documents that are created or accumulated by an individual or an organization in the normal course of business. Second, archives are the independent agencies or programs within institutions that are responsible for selecting,......
