Are Social Networking Sites Beneficial to the Society or Not?
Social networking sites are great for our society, due to its promotion increased interactions and connection between millions of people throughout the world. I personally am in favor of social networking sites because it allows people to create new relations and reconnect with their friends and family members. In addition, the reputation of social networking sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, and Linkedln, more than doubled from year 2005 to year 2009. These sites allowed all users to develop their online profiles of their background and interests as well as share thoughts, photos, links, music, and more (are social sites…for our society?). However, many argue that social networking sites attract people to spend more time online and less time with face-to-face interactions. Also, opponents say that the social networking sites provide many time wasting activities which replace the productive activities. According to the article, Are Social Networking Sites Good or Bad for Our Society? Teens spend an average of nine hours per week on social networking sites.
The opposition states that teens growing up with these social networking sites may not be aware that all the information and photos posted on these networking sites can be regained even after deletion. The opponents also states that the consequences of over-sharing personal information and photos can lead to vulnerability to sexual and financial predators. It can also cause losing jobs from employers who end up finding embarrassing comments or photos (are social sites…for our society?). Yes, I agree the opposition’s points, but social networking sites have age limits on who can create a profile and who cannot. Almost all social networking sites only allow people of age sixteen and older, as well as educated, mature, to use these sites. Proponents says,...

Sociologists often ponder, "How do these social websites impact society?" Above all, this is the question that is the central focus shared by all three of the primary sociological perspectives (Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and, Symbolic Interactionism) when studying and performing research on the topic. Otherwise, the three paradigms of sociological theories are differentiating interpretations of how they perceive social networking sites. Namely, I find this subject intriguing because humans are perpetually seeking innovations intended to ameliorate the quality of life, and diverse opinions pertinent to the effect on the gamut of society and individuals within a community, is inevitable. Albeit, each perspective's view generated as a result of these social milestones, equally hold valid points. Therefore, while social networking sites provide a multitude of beneficial improvements to the world, there are just as many issues that arise, and all three sociological perspectives serve to complement one another in the comprehension of social media networks and the sway they bring to societies. As Viewed Through the Structural-Functional Theorists’ Lens......

Write about Facebook, other social networking sites and their impact on society.(good and bad) Throughout history we have gone through multiple revolutions, like the Agricultural Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and now the Knowledge or Information Revolution. Essay #2

...Essay Number Two: Social Networking: Good or Bad for Our Society? By Christy Clark ENG204 - Advanced Writing July 23, 2012 Online social networking sites (SNSs) are web-based services that allow individuals to construct public or semi-public profiles, connect with other users, and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. (Baker & White, 2011) Now that SNSs are defined, some examples of these sites are Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, The Google+, Orkut, Tagged, and Badoo. Some people love them to the point that they consider themselves addicted and others either do not use them or rarely use them. SNSs have impacted our technological world in positive and negative ways. An example of a specific way that SNSs have been positively affected our society is a woman that was adopted reunited with her biological brother after 30 years. She found him through Facebook; they made arrangements to meet, and to this day have been catching up on lost years. Another case that proves Facebook has had positive impact is when a natural disaster occurs; having access to a SNS is another form of a communication outlet. Some post missing children which could bring a positive outcome through the speed of communication that happens over SNSs. Even alerts can be issued to warn many people in an extended area. This could save lives as well. On the other hand, SNSs have caused negativity within a community. There are some people that simply cannot handle...
