For the people in the Armed Forces there are tremendous risks that the family is put in. The family has to worry about their parent not coming home or coming home but severely injured that they are paralyzed or in need of a prosthetic. If the Armed Forces personnel had that happen to them, the family would not be able to pay for the insurance or funeral. The income that the Armed Forces makes is not enough to pay for a funeral or insurance, or even enough to survive on if they did not have a job. The paychecks that retired military officers from the navy are not enough to support a family of two or even three. Many of these retired personnel find jobs after they leave the military but most of the time they cannot get a good enough paying job to support them for another 40 or 50 years.
