Say you find yourself stranded in a forest or on the run from dangerous people. What kind of mindset would be necessary to ensure your survival. If a person finds themselves between a rock and a hard place such as Aron Ralston, Bethany Hamilton, and Hyeonseo Lee, it takes certain traits to survive. Each of them possessed different but equally important traits that helped them survive their situations. Without these characteristics, who knows if they would have survived or not. To survive any kind of situation you need a multitude of traits, some of the most important ones being grit, calmness, and determination.

Grit is an important factor to survival, Aron Ralston demonstrates this perfectly. Ralston expresses grit in his situation when he gets his hand stuck under a boulder, he exhausts every resource he has ("Trapped", Ralston). Ralston could've freaked out the moment his hand got stuck and just accepted a slow death. Instead he tried everything he could to free himself. Even after five days of being stuck, and his body beginning to shut down he still kept trying. Grit is essential …show more content…
Bethany shows calmness in a deadly situation when she becomes the victim of a shark attack. For example, in an article by ABC News titled "Young Surfer Girl Tells Tale of Shark Attack" it says, " Throughout the terrifying ordeal Hamilton remained calm." Hamilton staying calm is probably what saved her life. If she was freaking out and moving around then her family friend Holt Blanchard wouldn't have been able to get her out of the water and to proper care. Things would've been way more challenging if she wasn't calm. Calmness is essential for being a survivor because if you lose focus because you're panicking too much, then you could end up making the situation that much worse for
