Cutting Gym Class

A huge conflict with schools across America is the fact that schools are sacrificing their gym classes to save money and satisfy federal mandates towards test scores. More than half of the student’s national wide aren’t enrolled in a physical education course. The kid’s aren’t making up for the lost gym time either. More than 60% of students from ages 9-13 don’t do any physical activity out of school. Gym class requirements vary on state. Illinois is the only state to require daily PE for all class levels. Schools/communities across the country are creating programs for kids to start moving even if the state doesn’t mandate it. The reason why kids didn’t exercise in school was because they didn’t like getting dressed, getting sweaty during the day. Some PE teachers are rising to challenge of getting kids more active. Patrice Lovdahl has been teaching PE classes for 17 years stated that, “The key to keeping kids active in encouraging them to get exercise in all aspects of life.” This article is very reliable in many ways. For one, it was published by ABC news. ABC news is a very well known news cast around the world. This article was also published on September 30th, which makes it somewhat recent. I chose this topic to write about because I’m very passionate about being active and exercising. When I become a PE teacher I want to push my students to become and stay active and help them to understand that being active is important for their health no matter how old you are. If you aren’t healthy now it can affect you in the future. I believe that gym class should be required in all gym class levels in all gym class levels across the country.

Article Summary 2 Film Making Accounting

...Kezrin Asfar “The Business of Making” Movies Article Summary The article, “The Business of Making Movies”, written by Mark Young, James Gong and Wima Vanderstede, describes the economical sides of making movies today. It is extremely informative and very interesting especially from the standpoint of a student accountant who loves to enjoy movies as entertainment. It starts off by putting the industry in perspective and showing the reader how complex and important to our economy and culture the industry is. The movie making industry actually has a major influence on the United States Economy, at the very beginning the authors state the motion picture industry in the U.S. is ‘one of the country’s largest exporters and exerts cultural influence worldwide’. The industry is worldwide and very competitive. About 3,000 movies made it to theatres in 2006 in the U.S., but that is less than 1% of the entire amount of movies that made it film festivals alone. Predicting what movies are going to be successful is an extremely thorough process that does not allow many ideas or movies to ever make it. And even if they do make it, sometimes movie goers just don’t appeal to it as much. There seems to be a group of major studios that have control of the market and which movies get to make into theatres. I never knew that DreamWorks, the studio that made movies like Shrek, was actually a subsidiary company from the larger studio of Paramount Pictures. These major studios seem to ultimately...

...ARTICLE 1: COMMUNITY MUSIC LESSONS IMPROVE MINDS OF DISADVANTAGED KIDS SUMMARY This article is written by Shereen Lehman. It was about music lessons can improve the minds of children. Community based music lessons for disadvantaged youth can have positive biological effects on their brains. The children were actively playing instruments themselves rather than passively listening to others’ music. In this article, it explained that the children between the ages six and nine participated in the study published in the Journal of Neuroscience. They all went to public schools and lived in gang-reduction zones of Los Angeles. The children were split it into two groups. One group started lessons right away. For two hours per week, they received training in music fundamentals and learning to play the recorder. Most kids progressed to group instruction with instruments after six months. The second group waited a year before starting lessons. Each year the research team evaluated the children’s ability to process speech. Children who took lessons for two years showed improvements in their ability to distinguish similar sounds. However, these changes were not apparent after only one year. The music deeply engages the emotional system of the brain and children learn best when they’re excited about things. COMMENT Music is an art form whose medium is sound. ...Summary of “A Cell-Based Systems Biology Assessment of Human Blood to Monitor Immune Responses after Influenza Vaccination The goal of this study was to create methods and define protocols that may be used in future systems vaccinology studies. Having these tools at the ready can lend a hand in investigating the various reactions of different cell types to the immune response generated after vaccination. Scientists used influenza vaccinations in this study. Among the questions addressed the most important was if it was possible to develop these protocols and methods to study immune response to vaccinations in various individuals. One question addressed was how to “investigate the contribution of individual cell types to the immune response after vaccination.” (Hoek) Another question was is there any changes in protein-coding or non-coding RNA transcripts after vaccination. To answer their questions, the scientists established an efficient way to purify human T and B cells, natural killer (NK) cells, myeloid dendritic cells, monocytes and neutrophils from venous blood. Having this method not only helps conclude a hypothesis, but can be used in the future to help other scientists conduct their experiment. Using this high dimensional molecular approach, scientists can use systems biology to identify changes in the blood caused by vaccinations or other perturbations. Their results reveal that RNA and protein expression profiles from each individual sorted cell type differ......

...Third Party Reimbursement and Risk Management Article Summary Outline A. Summary 1. Introduction 2. Studies B. Personal Reaction 1. What I learned 2. What I think C. Application in classroom setting 1. The HIPPA Act 2. Ethics as the core A Risk management gives rise to various policies, which focus on making patients and clients secure since they can access care in diverse hospitals. Indeed, the exposure of patients to various risks during the treatment process affects their livelihood. The article indicates that most patients and legal representatives are not genuine since they sue the health care providers to their own advantage. Consequently, physicians acknowledge issues, which are not to be reimbursed. Apparently, attitudes focusing on revenge by patients create a croaky affiliation amidst the facilities, lawyers and patients. Attributable to the friction, medical lawsuits have become expensive. Studies equally exemplify that the patients ultimately become the beneficiaries of the lawsuits. The patients, being the determinants of the claim, necessitate the utilization of funds as compensation. An additional issue pertains to reduced government involvement in the damages yet its judges play a major role in making decisions. During litigation process, more time is spent. It equally emerges that court judgments register the premier amount of recompense in comparison to cases settled locally...
