I finally saw the video of the ALUU 4 killings and lynching of four uniport students and witnessed second hand the length of barbarity of the human race.. it provoked a lot of emotions from my very soul and I could do nothing but weep and wonder what if it was me?? That could have being me.. what kind of consolation would you give to a mother who saw her son come to such a brutal end??.. what kind of word would you use on a father who saw he’s only hope and all of his life’s investments and flesh and blood literally go down in ashes.. is this the kind of mentality the older nigerian generation want to imbibe on we the younger ones??? That you can never obtain any other justice in your motherland except jungle justice.. i got out my laptop and decided to make my own little tribute to the memories of their souls.. and you read pray also that they REST IN PEACE…

ASHES TO ASHES
Almost like I stood too watching
My silence amidst their tears
Man vultures hovering and perching
Tongues tied with allied fears

Each jab like twas to my own face
Our inhumanity to our own race
Blood came freely from another me
Ever being flogged with a whole TREE?

Sister beheld brother burning
Speak up and suffer same fate
In man’s own furnace blazing and turning
Death called they never lost faith.

Skin melting he still tried to save a brother
Deeds man can’t do for a mother
But he had gladly given his only life
He died that day, a death worth living

Quick bring the tires, we THINK they stole
Get petrol, get a lighter. Let’s burn them whole
More sticks please. The others broke on their faces
We won’t rest till they rest in pieces.

Who needs a court when we got JUNGLE JUSTICE
Bloodthirsty civilians all ready to lynch
Mothers watched as children reduced by d inch
Maybe their deaths could bring another peace

They stole life they could never give
Their

Angela's Ashes

...Rivera 1 Rivera 1 Paola Rivera Wld Lit O Ms. Ziemlak Monday, November 28, 2011 Angela’s Ashes Questions: 1. I liked Angela’s Ashes a lot; I thought it was a very powerful literary text. The moment when Frank says, “ Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is a miserable Irish Catholic childhood” (6). At this moment I immediately could recognize that Angela’s Ashes was going to be an emotional memoir of the author’s life. I enjoyed the fact that this was a bildungsroman novel, meaning it was a coming-of-age novel. In being this type of novel we see how Frank evolves from a naïve boy into a man who is surely to prove nothing like his father. 2. Through the novel, I was able to identify the following themes: Drinking in Irish culture, Hunger and Food, Antagonism between Presbyterians vs. Catholics, Poverty, and Honor. Drinking in Irish culture, is seen as a way to escape the hardships of Irish life, Frank’s father uses this as an excuse to keep drinking, and he is also motivated by others to do so. Hunger and the value of food is one of the most important themes, given that a lot of the suffering the McCourt’s have to go through id the scarcity of food. Since their dad is an alcoholic who can’t keep a job, the kids usually suffered from sever hunger all the time, their dad would rather spend the little money he earned on a pint, and what was left was used on cigarettes for him and Angela. The Antagonism between...

An Analysis Of Angela's Ashes

...Angela's Ashes is a book so filled with remorse and sadness, it's amazing that the reader somehow finds themself completely and joyfully satisfied. The novel revolves around the penniless childhood of Frank McCourt and begins in America with four-year-old Frank and his three year-old brother Malachy, who bears the same name as his father, and the infant twins, Eugene and Oliver, and the memories of the baby Margaret, "already dead and gone." Your heart goes out to the poor family, blessed with a loving mother, Angela, and yet cursed with a father who means well, but is constantly drunk or yearning for the "pint," as they call it. Early in his life, McCourt's family moves to Ireland, with help from his aunts and grandmother. Unfortunately, money...

Smoke Signals

...Alex Narvais English 1302 Professor Hawley 2/10/13 Love and Time Shakespeare’s uses three of his poems to describe love and the passage of time. Sonnets twelve, sixty-four, and seventy-three all share this meaning by Shakespeare. Love comes in to play by explaining to “love well” cause time is not endless. Each poem has its own different plot on time and love. Sonnet sixty-four deals with the speaker telling his loved one that time will soon take them from each other. In Sonnet twelve the speaker is preaching that the only way to defeat time is to procreate. Finally, in Sonnet seventy-three an old man is reflecting on his past life and telling it to a younger man, hoping the young man will understand how quick life goes. The poems all start off with the speakers explaining what they have seen or have been through over their lives. The beginnings to the poems are very emotional and serious. They all use interesting word choice to describe how quick time has gone by. Sonnet twelve begins “When I do count the clock that tells the time, / And see the brave day suck in hideous night (Shakespeare, 1-2).” The word clock was used to explain how the speaker has watched time pass and night fall as his life has gone by so quickly. Sonnet seventy-three begins “ That time of year thou mayst in me behold / When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang (Shakespeare, 1-2).” The words behold and hand describe that the speaker is describing his life like the season autumn. The speaker...

My Fathers House

...“Faster, faster… come on!” I urged under my breath, pedaling furiously. A thunderstorm had started, I was soaked to my skin, my stomach was growling and yet my bicycle refused to move faster. Getting back home was quite literally an uphill task as it was on top of a hill, sitting like a cream colored cherry on top of a green colored hill. The rain was not helping my quest to get back home in time for a nourishing dinner and a full night’s sleep, both of which had been recently denied to me due to the pressures of my new job. Avoiding the puddles formed in the potholes of the road, I made my way forward slowly but steadily. Thoughts of my father crept into my mind. His smile, his booming laughter, the fierce frown when someone, anyone, told him what to do were my most vivid memories. He had departed for his next life now; a tumor in his lungs made sure of that. Even though it had now been a year since his death, I still missed him. My mother had left me and my father when I was a mere 3-year old girl, impressionable and then, heart-broken. I have never trusted anyone completely ever since. I huffed and puffed up the hill and when I was close enough, I saw something which made my blood run cold. A streak of lightning. A fire. On the very top of the hill. I cycled like I had never cycled before. Memories of my father building the house swirled into my mind, too fast to separate. Panic seized my throat. I could not let it burn down. It was my only tangible...

The Mustache and Ashes to Ashes

...Review on “The Mustache” and “Ashes to Ashes” Both The Mustache and Ashes to Ashes by Sabina Berman and Harold Pinter, respectively, were great plays however I only thoroughly enjoyed the Mustache because of its humorous nature. The Mustache started out as a very comedic play but transitioned into a serious gender based play. Both actors were acting his/her false sexual orientation when together but deep down each character was homosexual. Ashes to Ashes was just a very confusing play to be however I progressively began to understand the allusions to massive killings, perhaps in the case of Nazi Germany. However, each play consisted of its own values and ulterior meanings, and I was able to understand each play’s message. The Mustache was a very interesting play with a married couple starting their morning as such of a typical relationship. However, the couple progressively turned from sunshine into a bickering mess. The wife was at first angry because the husband had been wearing her mustache at the party they had attended. I didn’t expect this at first because a mustache is usually what is grown on men as a sign of both masculinity and age. They then started talking back about the party and the husband’s encounter with an archetype of a woman. This started to make me realize that there was a gender and sexuality message within the play as soon as the husband started listing out what his girl had possessed. Words such as young, beautiful, skinny, etc. were used to describe...

The Mortal Instruments Trilogy Review

...THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS TRILOGY BOOK REVIEW SHADOWHUNTERS. The word that really caught my attention while walking down the hall of our local bookstore. The Mortal Instruments Trilogy is a young adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy, set in a colorful version of our reality where humans walk unaware of not just the vampires, werewolves, fey and warlocks, but also demons and their part-human enemies – the Shadowhunters. The author Judith Rumelt better known by her penname Cassandra Clare is a bestselling American author of young adult fiction. The books are inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, Cassandra’s favorite city. As I progress through, I found that the books are fast flowing with vivid characters, a lot of action, and interesting twists. The City of Bones, the first book of the trilogy, tells us about a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, who live in New York City, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a race of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. As I read through the book I found each and every character such charming personalities, as if they where real. I become aware of there presence and starts to worry. The words used by Cassandra...

Angelas Ashes

...Angela’s Ashes: 5 Comments/ Questions 1. Why is the title of the book Angela’s Ashes? The title of the book is called Angela’s Ashes because it represents Angela’s struggles in raising her family and the problems she has to overcome to keep her children from starving. Angela’s Ashes can also be the death of her children, the fireplace she put on every day, and the ashes from her woodpines. 2. Why is Angela’s mother so cruel to Angela, her husband, and her children? Angela’s mother is so cruel to Angela and her family because she may not like that her daughter married a man from the North with an odd manner and had children with him. She feels like she is paying for her daughter’s mistakes. Irish women need to be strong and can block out emotions and compassion to their children even though she gave birth to them. 3. Why didn’t the nun allow Frank and Patricia to talk to each other and keep each other company while they were trying to go through their sickness in the hospital? The nun did not allow Frank and Patricia to talk because maybe she thought they would like each other and approach one another in a sexual manner since they were a boy and a girl or she might have feared they would catch each other’s sickness. 4. Why does Angela sleep with Laman Griffen? Angela sleeps with Laman Griffen because she is at a moment of weakness and since she lives under his household for free she feels she has to serve him in any way he wants or he would...

Rowan Ashe Narrative

...All that Rowan Ashe came to be, all that she was meant to be, had its beginning on her thirteenth birthday. Before that day, Rowan Ashe had been a typical girl. Certainly, her looks were nothing out of the ordinary. Her height was an average five feet four inches tall, her build was reed thin. Like most other girls, she wore her dirty blonde hair in a loosely drawn ponytail and dressed in blue jeans and a tee shirt most of the time. Her blue-gray eyes, which she thought should have been her best feature, were unfortunately obscured by the thick bottle-glass lens she wore to correct her severe myopia. Her white, almost pasty complexion was blessedly free of the acne that troubled so many of her contemporaries. Her nose was long and thin, her...
