We all see the ASPCA commercials on television about abused and starved animals how can this happen? Doesn’t it break your heart just seeing those rescued animals? We don't see any commercials about slaughter houses. Those animals are beaten and inhumanely killed everyday and the public is not aware of this. That’s why people don’t know much about animal cruelty and think it’s okay to eat them.Animal abuse and neglect is an issue that not everyone looks at or pays attention to,this is due to people not being informed of the kind of abuse that pets, farm animals and wildlife animals go through.People also need to know the effects of animals abuse on the animals and in general and on society. If a human abuses animals of any kind in anyway then …show more content…
Their was specfic story about a man tying down his dog to a stake and used him as bait for a pit bull .The owners dog had the left side of his face torn off including his ears. You think to yourself how can someone do something like that? Another story that i read was about aspca finding 367 dogs that was the second largest dogfighting raid in the u.s history the dogs were found in filthy pens in the middle of the yard half baked where dogs were dogs chain down and train to fight. If you saw those dogs you would never recognize them today.
I believe animals are alot like humans. In change of heart about animals jeremy rikin says “They feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love- and these findings are changing how we view animals”(2) We also know that animals play, especially when young. recent studies in the brain chemistry of rats show that when they play ,their brains release large amounts of dopamune , a neurochemical assoicaited with pleasure and excitement in human beings.

A lot of people argue that animal abuse and animal cruelty is okay because animals don’t have emotions like humans . people say this because animals have no way to express what they feel or can’t tell us to stop when we abuse them.To me animals are a lot like babies ,they cant speak or defende themselves but, you can tell when they dont like

Animal Cruelty

...Animal Cruelty ‘Humanity needs to respect all living things that we share this planet with, animals, the environment (WWF, 2012).’ However, animal cruelty has been reported in different parts of the world and has continued at a very fast rate. It is a growing problem that needs to stop. I have always loved animals, especially dogs. For this reason, I defend my belief that animals should be treated with dignity. One must ask, what goes on in people’s mind that leads to this type of heinous actions on animals? Where does the root of the problem begin? This paper will analyze the causes, signs and prevention of animal cruelty. There are two forms of animal cruelty. One is active cruelty that is deliberately inflicted to cause harm (CFAWR, 2010). The other one is passive cruelty which the harm inflicted through willful disregard, in turn generating into long-term suffering. Regardless of the kind of cruelty, the effects are pronounced in the animals. Those abusing animals are highly likely to perpetrate violent crimes against humans. Negative behaviors like animal cruelty emerge from traumatic past. Animal cruelty in this regard is presented as diagnostic criteria for determining conduct disorder. This disorder is found in people who abuse both animals and humans. Clinical evidence considers animal cruelty as one of the signs that are shown in the initial phases of conduct disorder, normally at age 8 (CFAWR, 2010). Most of the studies that have been carried out in the recent...

Animal Abuse

...Riley Smith Lang 120 Professor Murray March 31 2015 Animal Cruelty and Abuse Animal abuse is said to be an under reported abuse stated by The Humane Society, it is also seen as a disturbing abuse. The rate in which animal abuse is going is only making it terrifying. The statistics of animal abuse are rising more and more with each year that comes. Although humans see it as something unfathomable, animal abuse occurs every day. Animal abuse is when physical pain, scarring, or death is brought upon an animal for no reason or showing it neglect. As shown in a group of statistics by The Humane Society shows that most abuse cases occur in dogs the most, commonly the pit bull. The Humane Society states that in 2001 abuse that occurred with dogs was around 13%, in 2007 it increased with a 12% jump to 25%, but in their latest study it was shown that 65% of abuse cases occur with dogs. As startling as this information may sound, it is a fact that society as a whole is becoming a worse place that feels like it is okay to hurt animals. In fact 68% of humans believe that the meat prices need to drop instead of worrying about the well-being of a cow or any animal. The ASPCA also agrees with what the human society has to say. The ASPCA agrees that the rate in which animal abuse is going is way too high. Animal abuse does not just have to be about physically hurting an animal. This could also mean neglecting it. An animal is just like any human. It loves being shown it is cared about and...

Cruelty To Animals Or ASPCA

...Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or "ASPCA", is a non profit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty of animals. There are abused animals all over America and ASPCA wants to find and rescue these animals with the help and support of the people of the United States. ASPCA released a very heart breaking commercial persuading the viewers to help these animals. It is very persuasive because they use visual images demonstrating the harsh and cruel environments these animals suffer in, which saddens most people to the point where they want to do something to help these animals. ASPCA is an extremely upsetting commerial because it makes you wonder how somebody could do that to an animal. It is also meant to be upsetting for the viewers. The reason for this is because when people watch something that hurts them in some way, most of the time, the outcome is that the people will want to do something to help. That's what ASPCA is aiming for. They want their viewers to recognize these traumatic lifestyles that the animals are living so that they can do something to help. ASPCA also adds...

Rhetorical Analysis Essay

...The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), founded by Henry Bergh in 1866, was the first humane society established in North America. The ASPCA outlines its goals in its mission statement: “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” The ASPCA, a nonprofit organization, works to fulfill its mission by caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals, and serving all victims of animal cruelty. The ASPCA utilizes both its website and its television advertisements to encourage people to participate in the organization either by donating or adopting. The ASPCA’s website’s organization, content, and layout work primarily to entice visitors to donate money. An examination of the webpage shows the site builders’ careful planning of the design elements. Visitors cannot avoid the large rectangle across the top of the page containing a slideshow of four different pictures. Each of the pictures, a close-up of a dog or cat that has been rescued by the organization, shows a pet with large and sad eyes, forcing the visitor to make eye contact with the pets. Three out of the four picture slides contain a large orange link that reads “Donate Today.” All of the slides also include the names of the dogs and cats shown, adding a personal touch to the pictures. Website viewers may feel guilty if they do not donate money after looking into the eyes of the neglected pets. The website...

Advertising Persuasion

...Count: 1042 words ADVERTISING PERSUASION I viewed an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) commercial which features Sara McLachlan and her song “In the Arms of an Angel”. The commercial urged viewers to donate $18.00 per month to help save the lives of animals and to provide medical care, food, and love to abused, neglected animals. If the viewer were to sign up in the next thirty minutes he or she would receive a photo of an animal, an ASPCA bracelet, and an ASPCA tee-shirt. The commercial opens with music and video of various animals and descriptions of their previous living conditions before their life at ASPCA. The target demographic for the commercial I viewed is middle-class, animal loving females. Sara McLachlan is a famous singer whose mainstream audience is females. She is also an outspoken animal activist, which would make her more relatable to average everyday people who also fight for the rights of animals. The middle-class are targeted because the ASPCA is asking the viewer to agree to a long term financial commitment by donating $18.00 per month, which isn’t a substantial obligation but could create a financial burden to a struggling low income family. The first tactic the commercial employs is emotional audio-visual props to convince viewers to make a contribution to help suffering animals. While video footage transitions from a dog so gripped with fear, it is trembling uncontrollably to a one-eyed cat then...

Animals in Entertainment

...The Use of Animals for Human Entertainment Adults take children to the circus, zoo, rodeos, movies, and marine parks to see different kinds of animals quite frequently. When people are young, they grow accustomed to seeing animals in these different environments and do not think of the harm it is potentially causing the animals. People do not typically know the habitats and conditions in which the animals live; they just see charming animals. Animals are being removed from their natural habitats to be placed into captivity for human enjoyment. Numerous animals in entertainment are being treated in barbaric and harsh ways. The use of animals for human amusement certainly involves removing animals from their habitats and putting them into inhumane conditions. Numerous laws prohibit the use of animals in entertainment. Since animals are abused and exported for a few moments of human entertainment, laws must be implemented to protect animals from abuse and exportation for the selfish entertainment of people. The owners of animals in entertainment are often not willing to pay for the costs of large cages or are unable to have large cages for the animals. When these animals are enclosed in small and overcrowded spaces, it often leads to filthy living conditions and animals’ fighting for their territory. Fighting can cause physical injury and weakness to the animals. “A negative side-effect associated with the physical environment provided to dolphins in captivity has been...

How We Treat the Animals We Eat

...How We Treat the Animals We Eat Angela M Groves DeVry University How We Treat the Animals We Eat Are the factory farms we buy our meat from treating animals humanely? Animal mistreatment is illegal and we can make a difference to put a stop to it. According to Ethical Farms “Some of the largest US factory farms refuse to uphold humane USDA and OSHA standards, having unsanitary, unhealthy conditions and animal rights violations. In 1958, the US government composed the Humane Slaughter Act that is not enforced” (Ethical Farms, 2010). There are 7 statutes in effect that comprise the Humane Slaughter Act. Included in these sections are Congress' statement that livestock must be slaughtered in a humane manner to prevent needless suffering, research methods on humane methods of slaughter, the non-applicability of these statutes to religious or ritual slaughter, and the investigation into the care of non-ambulatory livestock. There are farms that follow the Humane Slaughter Act in raising their livestock that we can purchase our food from, like Humane Farms for example. By aligning our consumerism with Restaurants and grocery store chains that purchase from humane farms we can make an impact. Also, supporting an Animal Rights group like The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(ASPCA) or The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA) can make a big difference. You can support them either monetarily or by volunteering your time in your local area. In...

Aspca Rhetorical

...has become one of the most influential of the ASPCA spokesmen. These commercials use a variety of rhetoric skills to provoke the audience to donate to the organization. The musical component of the commercial sets the tone and instantaneously evokes compassion for these innocent fur babies. This compassion-provoking advertisement tactically uses Sarah McLachlan and her music along with some of the saddest looking photographs to help score donations to fund the program. This ad was effective because it used ethos, logos and pathos in promoting animal abuse awareness as well as asking for donations. The ASPCA animal cruelty awareness and animal welfare features a series of clips portraying dirty often injured animals in cages and crates. In the background, ‘In the Arms of an Angel’ by Sarah McLachlan is being playing. Then the clips stop and Sarah McLachlan appears sitting in a room, petting a large dog. Then she says, “Hi, I’m Sarah McLachlan, will you be an angel for a helpless animal? Every day, innocent animals are abused, beaten and neglected, and they’re crying out for help. Please, call the number on your screen, and join the ASPCA with a monthly gift right now. Idaho Animal Cruelty

...Animal Cruelty There are many things that are illegal in this country such as; drugs, theft and animal cruelty to name a few. These laws are almost always broken especially animal abuse. For me this is considered one of the worst things that a person can do to an animal because animals can’t defend themselves, people just abuse them for the fun of it or it could also be neglect. What can be done to stop such cruelty against animals? What exactly is animal cruelty? According to Stacy Wolf, vice president of the ASPCA there is no simple answer because animal cruelty is defined differently from state to state. Offenses that are considered against animals include abuse, neglect, animal fighting, abandonment and practicing veterinary medicine on animals without a license. Wolf also states that in every state the laws for animal cruelty are quite different but cover almost any animal. For example, “New York law covers “ every living creature except a human being”, while California law covers “every dumb creature”.” (Wolf). These states are quite blunt on explaining their laws against animal cruelty. But Arizona gives more of an explanation on which animals are protected under the law which are mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. There are felony provisions for animal cruelty in forty-seven states excluding Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota. But before all of these laws were in the forty-seven states, in 1986 only four states had laws against animal cruelty. The human...

Animal Rights

...Animal Rights Many animals are lucky, they have a family where they get love, shelter and food but some animals aren’t so lucky; these animals are neglected, beaten, or ignored. Some people do not give animals respect; they are just an object that can be replaced at any time. It is obvious by the way animals are exploited that their rights are almost nonexistent. This exploitation includes animals that are used for entertainment, sport, breeding, and experiments. Animal activist are trying to get animals’ rights and observed and enforced by all. Humans use animals in many different ways besides as pets. Estee Lauder, Avon and Mary Kay have resumed animal testing on cosmetics to sell in China — even as the companies continue to claim in the United States that their products are cruelty-free (Sullivan). Laboratories use animals to test makeup, and for medical research; sometimes the animals are not given any anesthesia or pain medicine. The animals are caged or held in rooms that are so crowded that they cannot even move (Guillermo). Because they are going to be used for experiments or research often they are not given enough food and water. They may never be allowed outside of the cage again (Guillermo). Laboratories buy these animals from pounds such as the Pound Seizure program. This program allows animal shelters to sell animals to labs for experimenting or research; there are five states that have this program. These shelters that have too many animals are allowed to...

Animal Cruelty

...Animal Cruelty http://www.aspca.org/fight-cruelty/report-animal-cruelty/top-10-ways-to-prevent-animal-cruelty Here are some other signs and symptoms that we see in many of the cases we investigate: * Tick or flea infestations. Such a condition, if left untreated by a veterinarian, can lead to an animal's death. * Wounds on the body. * Patches of missing hair. * Extremely thin, starving animals. * Limping. * An owner striking or otherwise physically abusing an animal. * Dogs who are repeatedly left alone without food and water, often chained up in a yard. * Dogs who have been hit by cars-or are showing any of the signs listed above-and have not been taken to a veterinarian. * Dogs who are kept outside without shelter in extreme weather conditions. * Animals who cower in fear or act aggressively when approached by their owners. 1. Know who to call to report animal cruelty. Every state and every town are different. In some areas, you may have to rely on the police department to investigate animal cruelty; in others, you may have to contact local animal control or another municipal agency. If you aren't sure where to report cruelty, please visit our Report Animal Cruelty section.   2. Get to know and look out for the animals in your neighborhood. By being aware, you're more likely to notice, for example, that the dog next door who was once hefty has lost weight rapidly—a possible indicator of abuse.   3. Make the call. Without...
