1. Do you think that the VW investment process added value for the organization? How would you recommend measuring this “value”? If you do not think that it adds value, what are your recommendations for the process to add value for the organization?

I think that the VW investment process did add value to the organization. By starting the prioritization program they could analyze each project, choose which projects would add more value to the company as a whole, and make sound investment decisions. On another note, they gave the opportunities to each area or business team to speak out and give inside knowledge about what was going on in their area and what IT investments could better their performance, efficiency and improve the company as a whole.

2. In your opinion, what decision options did VW have in the case situation?

As it was stated in the case, after all projects were submitted for approval, the pool of investment requests was of $210 million but they only had a budget of $60 million to fund projects. Due to this many employees were dissatisfied and tried to talk to the CIO to push their project and argued that their projects should’ve been prioritized, they tried to convince the CIO to make exceptions for their projects and get funded. The CIO had the dilemma of maybe trying to squeeze in some low budget projects or if he should stand his ground and defend the program and its rules. He also had to consider the consequences of his decisions as he still needed to work with those employees and he had to see how his decision would affect employee relationship.

3. What data, facts or experiences can you use to support your suggested options and implications?

The best experience that I had is with a similar program that was implemented were I was working, it was a program were any group of employees could

...Introduction An ‘at-risk’ student is a young person at risk, or educationally disadvantaged, if they have been exposed to inadequate or inappropriate educational experiences in the family, school, or community. Many of these students are located in large, mainly urban high schools around the country (Balfanz, 2007). Urban high schools face five common problems: low student engagement, poor prior preparation, low ninth-grade promotion rate, low graduations rates, and isolation from the community (Herlihy & Kemple, 2004). When at-risk students are exposed to such environment everyday, they have a greater probability of dropping out of school (Princiotta & Ryan, 2009) Nationally, 1.3 million members of the public high school class of 2009 failed to graduate with a diploma with the majority of that population being African American, Latino, and Native American (Princiotta & Ryan, 2009). The majority of these populations attend schools in urban high schools in majority cities (Balfanz, 2007). Many schools do not have a system that identifies students who are at-risk of dropping out school, so these students are ignored.
