Based on my individual scores on the “What Motivates You?” self-assessment, I can conclude that I have a high need for achievement and an equal need for both power and affiliation. My dominant need is the need for achievement. It is described as the “ drive to excel, to achieve in relation to set a set of standards, to strive to succeed” (Langton, Robbins & Judge, 2013, p.137). The high score that I received for achievement suggests that I have high standards to strive for success. I usually try very hard to improve on my past performance at work. It is also a great indication that I want to succeed in any way possible such as correcting mistakes, setting goals and challenging myself. Since I enjoy difficult challenges, it is important that I set goals that are attainable yet require lots of focus and hard work to achieve it. I also desire to know how I am progressing. When I complete a task with all my time and effort, I feel very satisfied because it takes a lot of hard work. My other scores, for needs for power and affiliation, are equally ranked because I feel “the need to make others behave in a way that they would not have behaved otherwise” and “the desire for friendly and close interpersonal relationship” (Langton, Robbins & Judge, 2013, p.137). I enjoy competition and winning but I do not usually like to be in charge. If there were any issues that arise, I would confront people who do things I disagree with and provide solutions. I do not influence other people to get my way yet I often work hard to gain more control over the events around me. Usually, I often find myself talking to those around me about non-work related matters in order to build better relationships with them. In that sense, I build close relationships with other people because I can get work done easier and feel comfortable working in my organization. I enjoy being in-group settings, which reflects the reason I like to work with others more than working alone. All of these scores generally reflect the way I feel motivated. I have a greater need for achievement because I raise my standards and set goals. My need for power and affiliation is scored high because I feel that I want control of my environment and I enjoy being around others in-group settings.

Assessments

...Assessment is a valuable tool to measure students learning and achievement. It is an essential element for teacher to reflect on what and how they teach. To assess students is to collect evidence of their learning. Teachers use the information to modify their lesson plans and adjust their instructional methods; students need feedback on their performance to concentrate on their vulnerable areas. Assessment is necessary for parents to reinforce their children strength and assist them where extra attention is required. The data collected will inform school administration the parts of improvement that both teachers and students needed and for the state and federal levels, as is important to determine if additional funding is necessary to assist students in their learning and achievement. To provide the suitable service and achieve optimal result, teachers and administrators must identify their ELL students and place them in classroom that best fit with their abilities. In an interview conducted with Miss Fabiaschi, an academic dean at a charter school in my district, she said that at her school parents are providing information on home language on the application. Then they use the CELDT (California English Language Development Test) to determine which level of English proficiency for their students. She added, there are two types of ELLs, the new enrollments, which are kindergartens who enroll in school for the first time or students of higher grade levels who transferred from...

...systems to use, healthcare committees require feedback from all staff in what’s needed in the facilities to better care for patients. According to the Handbook of Informatics, the purpose for needs assessment is to see where the organization is presently at and what the organization needs to do for them to grow. Before an organization can setup an EHR they have to make evaluations of strengths and weaknesses within the organization. They evaluate the needs of the patients, how easy or difficult a patient can access their information, or what the organization can do to make it more convenient for the patients, in regards to treatments or facility visits. Needs assessment is the first phase of developing a more efficient way of making the organization stronger. It starts with the development of the steering committee, needs assessment are then developed, they identify systems requirements, and then the systems are weighed out to see which ones are in need and demand. “In the process of conducting a needs assessment, the nurse planner collects and analyzes data to determine where learner are now in relation to the desired outcome, where they need to be, and what educational approaches would be effective in bridging that gap”(Dickerson, 2013, p.104). When a needs assessment is determined it means being able to look into all areas of operation in the organization to analyze deficiencies, and how these gaps can be bridged. The factors that need to be evaluated are suggestions...

Assessment Centers

...International Journal of Selection and Assessment Volume 17 Number 3 September 2009 Guidelines and Ethical Considerations for Assessment Center Operations1 International Task Force on Assessment Center Guidelines2 This document is an update of several prior editions of guidelines and ethical considerations for assessment center operations dating back to 1975. Each set of guidelines was developed and endorsed by specialists in the research, development, and implementation of assessment centers. The guidelines are a statement of the considerations believed to be most important for all users of the assessment center method. For instance, the use of job-related simulations is a core concept when using the method. Job simulation exercises allow individuals to demonstrate their abilities in situations that are important on the job. As stressed in these guidelines, a procedure should not be represented as an assessment center unless it includes at least one, and usually several, job-related simulations that require the assessee to demonstrate a constructed behavioral response. Other important areas include assessor selection and training, using ‘competencies’ as dimensions to be assessed, validation, participants’ rights, and the incorporation of technology into assessment center programs. The current guidelines discuss a number of considerations in developing and using assessment centers in diverse cultural settings. 1. Purpose staff of an assessment center; and (4) guidance on the...

Maria Assessment

...MARIA’S ASSESSMENT 1 Maria’s Assessment Ethical or Multicultural Assessment Errors Introduction Please include an introduction to describe for the reader what you will be including in your paper. It is a great way to outline the key requirements and expectations for the assignment. In scholarly writing it is important to include the introduction to provide the reader with a lens for understanding what will be presented in your application paper. The three errors the teacher made with Maria was electing to conduct no informal or formal assessment, opting to conduct assessments in English only, and not taking into consideration the environmental and cultural difference (e.g. worldview) hindering Maria’s emotional and academic development. According to Whiston (2013, pg. 323), “Knowledge of using appropriate appraisal techniques with diverse population is crucial,” the teacher’s inability to do so indicates restricted and potentially unsuitable methods and actions in acknowledging Maria’s culture (e.g. worldview) and the significance it plays in her education and emotional anxiety at school. Counselor’s Perspective on Errors The practice of assessment entails the collection of information in order to analyze, identify, evaluate, and address the issues, difficulties, and circumstances of the client in the counseling relationship. Not assessing a client either by informal, formal, or both types of assessments leaves...

Curriculum and Assessment

...This essay will aim to look at how curriculum and assessment are being operated in two different early years settings. The settings under examination are 3-5 year olds and 5-8 year olds. We will start with the definitions of curriculum and assessment and the relationships between them. After that, I will explore similarities and differences between approaches to curriculum and assessment in the two settings. Curriculum is an integrated system drawing together every element for learning and teaching, including learning outcomes, learning areas, teaching strategies, evaluation and assessment to help with children’s learning progression (MacLachlan, Fleer& Edwards, 2010). Curriculum refers to “all the experiences, activities and events, whether direct or indirect, which occur within an environment designed to foster children’s learning and development” (Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations [DEEWR], 1996). Early childhood educators regard ‘the curriculum’ as a guidance of learning instructions and assessment (Baxter, 2012). A good curriculum can offer the expert guidance, evidence of effectiveness and flexibility. It enables early childhood educators to draw upon a comprehensive view of early years education linked to their own observations and experiences; therefore educators set up and modify learning programs accordingly and timely (Early Childhood Australia, 2013). Assessment can be described as the process of finding out what children know, understand...

Assessment of Learning

...Alternative Assessment An assessment in which students create an original response to answer a certain question. Students respond to a question using their own ideas, in their own words. Examples of alternative assessment are short-answer questions, essays, oral presentations, demonstrations, performance assessment, and portfolios. Other activities included in this type are teacher observation and student self-assessment. * Components of Alternative Assessment a) Assessment is based on authentic task that demonstrate students’ ability to accomplish communication goals. b) The teacher and students focus on communication, not on right and wrong answers. c) Students help the teacher to set the criteria for successful completion of communication tasks. d) Students have opportunities to assess themselves and their peers. Performance-based Assessment Performance assessment ( Mueller, 2010) is an assessment in which students are asked to perform real world tasks that demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills. It is a direct measure of student performance because the tasks are designed to incorporate context, problems and solution strategies that students would use in real life. It focus on processes abd rationales. There is no single correct answer; instead students are led to craft polished, thorough and justifiable responses, performances and products. It also involved long-range projects, exhibits, and performances...

Ell Assessments

...Assessments are a very valuable tool in measuring a student’s learning abilities and achievements. They are a crucial in that they are used for teachers to look back on how and what they are teaching. Assessing a student means to prove that they are in fact learning. Teachers use this evidence to determine whether they need to change their lesson plans or the manner in which they are instructing, and the students use this feedback to find out their weak areas so that they can concentrate more on them, which is much the same use for the parents. The parents take the information provided by these assessments so that they can pursue their child’s strengths and help them with the weaknesses. The data that these assessments provide is also used by the school administrators. It shows them the improvement of not only the students but also the teachers that is needed for state and federal levels, which determine if more funding is needed to aide students with their learning and achievements. The majority of students born and raised in the United States can easily understand the English language. However, there are the select few that do not speak English because it is not their dominate language that they use at home, so these students require assessments that will enable them to pick up the English language. Getting these students to pick up the language can be an extremely hard task for teachers. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act states that students should be tested...

Assessment and Evaluation

...continuing education have use the terms assessment and evaluation interchangeably”; however, assessment and evaluation are two separate concepts. According to Angelo, Cross-, and Moran assessment within the classroom, refers specifically to the collection of information to measure learning gains, which indicate learners’ individual levels of achievement; whereas; Queeney referred to assessment from a programmatic perspective as more comprehensive measurement of achievement of the program itself. Assessment refers to the collection of information, and it measures levels of achievement without comparisons to a set of standards, however, I feel assessment is a process used to improve a result. Some of the functions of assessment used in the assessment process is screening, phase like, and continually measure student levels of skill or knowledge. The screening process helps determine what area the learner is suited for and will help determine the learner’s weakness (if they need other assistance to help improve where they are). Baselines in the function process of the assessment are for evaluating and designing learning interventions, teaching method, program standards and policies, furthermore, assessment have various methodologies to select the method that would be most appropriate for their need. Although there are several definitions of evaluation, Stufflebeam and Shinkfield gives an extended definition of evaluation, it is the systematic assessment of an object’s merit, worth, probity...

Needs Assessment

...Needs Assessment HRM326 June 16, 2014 Needs Assessment Training is an important part for a company and/or an organization. The importance of education is not just with new workers but with managers and supervisors also. Upper management training is just as important for workplace productivity, safety, and satisfaction. Some of the skills that can be improved upper management within a company or organization can be manager communication, employee recognition, and employee motivation. The company or organization must understand that it is not just about conducting training but making sure the training is effective and it works. If the training is not effective and it does not work, then the company or organization needs to make an assessment at the different levels. After the completion of the assessment, the company or organization needs to conduct the proper training. Below are the assessments for Wal-Mart. Needs Assessment for an Organization When a company or organization is not on pace to achieve their goals, (being that of short, medium, or long term) they must take a closer look at the type of training they are conducting. The company or organization should conduct a needs assessment on the company or organization as a whole. Since Wal-Mart is not on pace to achieve their goals, we will discuss the needs assessment process that will be used. According to "Needs = Gaps In Results", Needs Assessments are used to identify strategic priorities, define...

...EDUC-6705R-2 Foundations of Reading & Lit December 8, 2013 Student assessment of cognitive and Non-cognitive affects for literacy development Abstract Assessments are a very valuable tool for teachers. In the past, I have only given cognitive tests and used that data. Using a non-cognitive assessment opened up the door to a new pathway for me. I can use this data to assist me in motivating struggling students to read. Utilizing the data from both types of assessments, conferencing with students, and learning about their home life will allow me to use appropriate strategies for them to be successful. . Student assessment of cognitive and non-cognitive affects for literacy development What influences a child to become a successful learner? How can I motivate my students? What approaches should I take? What are the attitudes students have towards learning? Assessments help me identify these answers to these questions and help me understand students academically, as well as, socially. I also have to consider the students home life. How involved are the parents and siblings with this student. The answers to these questions will help me determine the direction I will need to go in order for my students...
