Assignment 2: Integrating Culture and Diversity in Decision Making: The CEO and Organizational Culture Profile
BUS 520 – Leadership and Organization
Dr. Danielle Camacho
Tomika Williams

Provide a brief (one [1] paragraph) description of the organization you chose to research.
I chose to research Southwest because living in Atlanta, Georgia I’ve personally waited for the discount airline to land on our doorstep and they did just that with the merger and acquisition of Airtran Airways. Southwest by way of the merger is now in Atlanta which is the nation’s busiest airport (McCartney, 2013). Southwest bought AirTran way back in 2011 for $1.4 billion with the intention of combining fleets and operating the newly merged airline under the Southwest brand. Another specific reason for Southwest opting to obtain AirTran was – in part – to extend its reach to AirTran's international destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean. Southwest was also able to expand its presence in the Northeast to cities not previously serviced by Southwest i.e. New York and Boston. Southwest by way of the merger is now in Atlanta which is the nation’s busiest airport (McCartney, 2013).
Examine the culture of the selected organization.
Southwest Airlines is probably one of the better examples of a company that outlined a very clear and simple key business principle, chose the right business model to support that principle, and consistently demonstrates the core values and behaviors derived from their key business principles.
The brand promise of Southwest Airlines is “Dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit” (Southwest, 2014). Every single employee of the company is aligned with this brand promise, and in spite of the current economic turmoil in the airline industry Southwest's performance in

Assignment 2: 21st Century Leadership Due Week 8 and worth 300 points The 20th and 21st centuries have produced many business leaders, such as corporate giants like Jack Welch of GE, Daymond John of FUBU, Steve Jobs of Apple, and Herb Kelleher of Southwest. In addition, many hip-hop moguls have risen to prominence, such as Sean Combs, aka P Diddy, of Bad Boy Records; Russell Simmons, founder of Def Jam; and Sean Carter, aka Jay Z, of Rock Nation. Regardless of their business models and industries, organizational leaders are expected to create realistic visions for their companies and the people that they guide. However, such visions often result in vastly different leadership styles. Therefore, experts have concluded that there is no one best leadership style geared towards guiding employees and companies to accomplishing organizational goals. Using the Internet and Strayer databases, research your favorite senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, President, Founder, etc.) from any organization that has made a strong impact on his or her industry (fashion, music, food, banking, technology, automotive, etc.). Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you: Describe the overall leadership style(s) of your chosen senior executive...

...ALL MODULE 1 ASSIGNMENTS DUE: SUNDAY, APRIL 3 BY MIDNIGHT Introduction In this module we will be researching leadership theories in general, as well as reflecting on our own leadership styles and traits. Later, in the second half of the course we will research and understand leadership as it relates to organizational leadership. In the first half of the course, the focus is on the individual leader. There are various theories about the importance of the inner life to your work. My take on it is that you teach (or whatever you do) out of who you are as a human being. Parker Palmer (1998) stated in The Courage to Teach, Teaching, like any truly human activity, emerges from one's inwardness, for better or worse. As I teach, I project the condition of my soul onto my students, my subject, and our way of being together. The entanglements I experience in the classroom are often no more or less than the convolutions of my inner life. Viewed from this angle, teaching holds a mirror to the soul. If I am willing to look in that mirror and not run from what I see, I have a chance to gain self-knowledge--and knowing myself is as crucial to good teaching as knowing my students and my subject [emphasis mine] (Palmer, p. 2). In this course, make a commitment to reflect on who you are—your strengths, your corresponding weaknesses, your passions--with the goal of knowing yourself, knowing your students/clients/colleagues, and knowing your job roles. Learning Team B Leadership Analysis

...Learning Team B Leadership Analysis To become a leader in the 21st century requires the tenacity to embrace change. For example, how information is transmitted, and how resources are allocated requires visionary leaders who are equipped with a broad range of talents and temperaments. According to Clawson (2006), "the more organizations are built around teams; the more old measures of performance become outdated" (p. 241). Leadership in the 21st century requires the tenacity to embrace change, and have a broad range of talents and temperaments. According to Wren (1995), “the only thing of real importance that leaders do is to create and manage culture, and the unique talents of leaders is their ability to understand and work with culture” (p. 273). In the past 100 years, researchers have studied the means, methods, and models of building and leading teams. The research on leadership models and behaviors emerged through the modernization of manufacturing and production of goods and services. Studies included the study of biographical characteristics of members, such as sex, age, education, marital status, race, religious affiliation, geographic region of birth, weight, and height are some of the data collected (Bass, 2010, p. 7). Moreover, the purpose of this essay is to give an overview of the team’s online assessment scores and how each team member’s leadership style translates into specific leadership behaviors and practices. In addition to the overview...

Throughout time, researchers have explored different methodologies on ways leaders perform. Daniel Goleman’s (2000) uses a format of six different styles that are interchangeable depending upon the climate. Others direct one towards qualities and emotional behaviors to get effective results. Whether it’s a style, quality, or emotional behavior, these methods have confirmed success in professional and personal atmospheres, analyzing strengths and weaknesses forms new ideas and approaches towards future leadership endeavors. I have reviewed some of my past experiences and applied Jack Welch’s principles and rules, concluding ways to handle situations implementing my leadership style, quality, and emotional behavior. The question now is “What works for you?” Keywords: styles, qualities, emotional behaviors Introduction What is a leader and how does he or she lead to fulfil a goal? This question is what researchers have been trying to discover for decades. There’s no one answer to identify how a leader achieves success. They consist of many attributes that differ between individuals. One leadership style can be motivating while another can consist of a bull that wants things done one way. Though they are so opposite both can have successful ending results...

Innovation Leadership

...Unit 6: Assignment 1 Innovation Leadership Project MBA 6006 October 3, 2014 Introduction Procter & Gamble is a large multibillion dollar company that many of us would have never thought was having difficulties until we read the case study. Like many people and companies P&G had been winning for soo long that they got complacent. The time, thought, and energy was no longer being invested into the innovation of the company. There were “ideas” that were thrown into production with hopes of them working. However, when things started to go wrong the leaders at P&G started to do their research and really dig into what changes could and needed to be made. This first step is what separates this company from many others and what has enabled them to remain successful to this day. What Encourages Innovation There were two primary leadership styles that were present at Proctor & Gamble as a result of Lefley stepping in as the CEO. Both transformational and contingency leadership were present and needed to enable the company to evolve. The transformation leadership was exhibited when we look at the different patterns of leadership that were present. Prior to Lafley taking over as CEO, P&G had lost the largest amount of profits in their history in the shortest amount of time. The company had moral issues and an overall downward spiral on their hands. However, all of this quickly changed once Lafley stepped...
