Mis 525 Assignment 3.1

...The company, founded in 1984, is a small, local auto parts manufacturer. It is not a very technologically-sound company, with only one in-house IT employee. The owner of the company is 87 years-old and has not exactly embraced the age of computers. A shared Excel workbook is the extent of the database, and only one employee can be in it (edit it) at any one time. Some employees are forced to share aging, obsolete computers. Over the past three months, it has had a problem with receiving orders late. Of the 94 total orders placed, only 42 were received on-time (44.7%). This figure simply isn’t good enough and needs to be improved. An inventory control system (which uses barcodes/RFID) would be a great step towards improving the old, manual system. New computers, software and training are a must for the company going forward; an IS environment must be developed. The new inventory control system will be important for the company because it will help to increase the amount of on-time orders (and decrease late orders), helping them to have appropriate levels of inventory at all times. The new system will also update managers on the current inventory levels. Currently, the system has some manual tasks, such has physically locating and taking inventory, which can be automated. Orders are recorded in a ledger, which is ultimately the responsibility of the operations manager. Due to the recent downturn in the economy, several positions were eliminated. This put a larger...

Determining Databases

...Determining Databases and Data Communications Laura Dowell BIS/320 March 18, 2013 Martin Mueller Determining Databases and Data Communications A manager in today’s business environment must have the skills and knowledge to play a role in a variety of departments. Even if he or she is not an expert in the information technology field, a basic understanding of the tools and terminology is a must-have. This understanding can be useful in clearing out some of the options which are obviously untenable and narrow decisions to a limited number of viable options. The scenarios below demonstrate how a basic knowledge of software application and network design can simplify decisions that would perplex many individuals. SCENARIO 1 In the first scenario a marketing assistant for a consumer electronics company is responsible for managing the displays used at industry trade shows. This person must identify the necessary components and equipment and make sure they get shipped to the trade show in a timely manner. Once the shipment arrives at the trade show, the assistant is responsible for verifying the condition of each item and overseeing the set-up and functionality of the display. At the conclusion of the trade show, the assistant makes sure that each piece ships back to the company and is put back into stock at the warehouse in the same condition as when it originally left. This assistant is also in charge of following up on any problems resulting from shipping damage. There...

Teachers need to be very familiar with the outcome being assessed by Achievement Standard Physics 91521. The achievement criteria and the explanatory notes contain information, definitions, and requirements that are crucial when interpreting the Standard and assessing students against it. Context/setting This activity requires students to test a physics theory relating two variables in a non-linear relationship by taking measurements, using techniques to maximise accuracy, processing and graphically analysing the collected data, determining the equation of the non-linear relationship or the value of a physical quantity, and then critically comparing this with a physics theory. Conditions The investigation is to be performed under supervised conditions. Students should work independently to gather and evaluate their own set of data and produce their report. No material is to be taken from the laboratory. The assessment should be done over a period of time. Three to four hours is recommended for this task. Conclusions should be written. Abramson Instructor: Shannon O’Stricker ENG-115 – English Composition Date: February 25th, 2013 Many automotive manufacturers favor importing the majority of their materials from international markets rather than via the local materials. There is a reason for doing something which is escorted with some effects that is either optimistic or pessimistic. This work explains the causes and effects of an automotive manufacturer importing from the international markets. It effects the decision of people and the economy. [pic] The demand to produce high quality and exceptional automotive materials is the major cause for importing from foreign markets. With lofty competition in the automotive industry, manufacturers exercise all means to guarantee that they fabricate the unsurpassed automotive products in the market. Determining Scope in It

...both the client and the project manager at the beginning of the project, there is still a high probability that it can get out of hand during development. The client may see what the project team is developing and start getting new ideas for features they want in the system. They may come to think that the addition of these features is imperative to the project and demand that they are included but not be willing to increase the budget or extend the schedule. Sometimes even project team members will add in additional features that they think will benefit overall functionality. The problem then becomes that these small changes will add up fast and start to snowball until the project scope has been substantially expanded or shifted. Determining Project Scope 1. Interview Individually Sometimes a stakeholder’s requirements will be influenced by those around them, so it is best to interview stakeholders individually before having group meetings. This will also help in getting a wider variety of opinions and information that people may not be as forthcoming with if they are in a group setting. Once you have information from multiple sources, you can discuss the options with the group and decide which ideas are the most valuable without the person whose opinion it was feeling judged. 2. Be specific Whether a project is large or small, it is imperative to be specific when deciding on project scope. This means that everything that is acceptable and possible will be fully......

...| Determining Causes and Effects | | Assignment 3.1 | English Composition 115 | | | | Determining Causes and Effects | | Assignment 3.1 | English Composition 115 | | | Professor Charlotte Walker December 3, 2013 Authored by: Jamie Mahan Professor Charlotte Walker December 3, 2013 Authored by: Jamie Mahan INTRODUCTION The ways that humans have affected the quality of Lake Huron over the centuries include sewage disposal, toxic contamination through heavy metals and pesticides, overdevelopment of the water’s edge, runoff from agriculture and urbanization, and air pollution. WHY IS LAKE HURON SO POLLUTED? During the 18th and 19th centuries, industries and individuals often used rivers and lakes as garbage cans. Industrial effluent, raw sewage and animal carcasses would often be dumped into Lake Huron, without much thought of contamination. The major cause of the pollution in Lake Huron seems to be nonpoint source pollution. Nonpoint source pollution is another term for polluted runoff (Water Pollution in the Great Lakes). In the 20th century, this practice of dumping waste into the lake started changing as people became aware of the importance of clean water to their health. As more people and industries moved into the great lakes region, the more the rivers and lakes became polluted. Pollutants enter the great lakes in many different ways, but the entryways of pollutants are point source, nonpoint source,...

Determining Databases

...Determining Databases and Data Communications Scenario 1 What are the typical fields needed to track data for booth components, equipment, and shipments? Booth Components – Names of components, Serial numbers of equipment and manufacture information, Approximately how long does it take to set up, Where it is being shipped from and where it is being shipped to and what type of shipment is being used and price of equipment. Also what is the weight and size of components being delivered and scheduled time of delivery. Equipment – Equipment would have the same fields as booth components except need tracking system to now where is equipment is located and in what order each piece of equipment will be showcased. Shipments – Shippers name, address, and contact information, shipment warranty information, scheduled delivery and pickup times. Something that is contained on our shipment boxes is how many pieces are being shipped and how to handle equipment because some electronic equipment needs to be handled with care. Example of two relationships that need to be tracked. The first relationship that needs to be tracked is between the shippers and equipment being shipped. Marketing assistant needs to keep track of shipping information to determine when shipment will arrive and to coordinate movement of equipment. The second relationship that needs to be tracked is between personnel that supervised the set up and breakdown and booth components. In order to account for booth......

Determining Databases

...Determining Databases and Data Communications University of Phoenix BIS 320 Determining Databases and Data Communications Databases are a “self-describing collection of integrated records” (Kroenke 2014 p 108). The purpose of a database is to “help people keep track of things” (Kroenke 2014 p 107). A few terms that are used in reference to databases are: bytes, columns, fields, rows, records and tables (Kroenke p 108). Bytes are grouped into columns; which are also known as fields and columns or fields in turn are grouped into rows; which are called records (Kroenke p 108). Lastly, a group of similar rows or records are called a table or a file (Kroenke p 108). In scenario one, the information that would be tracked would be the data about booth components, equipment, shippers, and shipment. There are three different relationships: one to one, one to many and many to many. A one to one relationship is not common because most information related in this way would be in one table (Microsoft SQL server). The one to many relationship is the most common type of relationship. “Make a one to many relationship if only one of the related columns is a primary key or has a unique constraint” (Microsoft SQL server). The many to many relationships can have many matching rows. The two relationships that would be used would be the many to many relationships and the one to many relationships. Since we are tracking shipments and shippers, this might overlap because one shipper......

...DETERMINING PAY RAISE The Scientific Equipment Manufacturing company is a small manufacturing unit located in Peenya, Bangalore. The company is non-unionised and manufactures analytical equipment for hospital laboratories. Approximately one year ago, the manager of the Component Assembly Department established three production goals for the department. The goals were : (i) reduce raw material storage costs by 10 per cent ; (ii) reduce variable labour costs (i.e. overtime) by 12 per cent; and (iii) decrease the number of quality rejects by 15 per cent. The manager told the six unit supervisors that the degree to which each supervisor or exceeded these goals would be one of the major inputs for their merit – pay increases for the year. In previous years, merit increases were based on seniority and an informal evaluation by the department manager. The six supervisors worked on separate but similar production lines. A profile of each supervisor is as follows : Amitha Aged 28, single; three years with the company after receiving her degree from the Bangalore University. Has a job offer from another company for a similar job that provides a substantial pay increase over her present salary. The scientific Equipment does not want to lose Amitha because her overall performance has been excellent. Analysis 3.1

...Analysis 3.1 Dan Brown ITT-Technical Institute Problem Solving Theory-GS1140 Mr. Wood April 23rd, 2015 i. Making a telephone call in the year 2020. In the year 2020 making a telephone call will be very similar as it is today. But I believe that there will be some major advancements in the technology involved with phone calls. Some of those advancements I can foresee is totally hands-free calling by using the dwellings Wi-Fi and entertainment devices to accept the incoming call and be able to broadcast it over speakers in the entertainment systems of the home. There would be small microphones located in each room so that no headset would need to be worn to take the call. Also there would have to be a way to screen the calls and the phone system would actually vocalize who is calling. Kind of like caller id but a lot better in the fact that there would be no looking at a small screen telling you who called. Also making a call will be simpler as well since the microphones would let you dial via voice command. And with the phone system interlinked with the home entertainment system and computer systems it would have the customers contact list available at just the command of the user’s voice. ii. Eating a meal with your family in the year 2050. Eating a family meal in the year 2050 will be very different than it is 2015.
