...Marketing Assignment Nguyen Le Anh Nanyang Business School Nanyang Technological University Marketing assignment Introduction Needless to say, value proposition, market segmentation, differentiation and positioning are closely related concepts and play an indispensable role in marketing strategy of any companies. But more importantly, businesses must decide how they can apply these concepts in their situations, because using mechanically without research can lead them to terrible results. All of the issues related to these concepts discussed in the article “Being unique is good, isn’t it?” by C.J. Hayden brought to us challenges which businesses have to take into account when implementing their marketing strategies. Challenges related to marketing concepts In this article, the author mentioned two main challenges which affect companies’ decisions in marketing. The first challenge starts with a question: “These are all reasons why being different can be good. But how different should you be?”. After that the authors illustrated his question by providing an example of failure strategy when a student decided to advertise for management consultants in his local Yellow Pages and no customers came to him. All of us know that differentiation is “distinguishing our offerings from competitors to attract potential customers” (Wikipedia). The student in this case chose a special way to stand out in management consultants market, but why was he failed? The answer is...

Marketing Assignment

...INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT 5 1) The price of bottled water: Under normal circumstances, the price of a regular bottled water depends on the bottling, packaging, shipping, marketing and retailing costs. On the other hand, although the mentioned costs are nearly the same for the same product, the related price might change significantly according to the parameters such as customer’s perceived value, his/her willing to pay, location, environment, volume etc… For example, as for the stadium example, under the time pressure, the people waiting for the match to start, probably will not have enough time to find a bottle of water with a lower price. This situation will increase the customer’s willing to pay for the same product under this different circumstance. So, the seller could find himself/herself in a more comfort position in terms of higher pricing. As for the cafe case, the pricing strategy will be different from that of the supermarket and street seller. The reason behind this might be depending on the factors such as added value of the cafe environment, customer service, even being visible there or belonging to a member of the audience group etc. The mentioned factors might explain the premium pricing applied especially in touristic or high society places. On the other hand, the service costs such as rent, electricity, wages, tax etc. should be included in the product price somehow in terms of profitability. The pricing for the minibar case is very similar to the...

Marketing Assignment

...Introduction The purpose of this essay is to analyse the macro environment of the new washing machine which is being developed for launch in 2008 by Smart Wash Company. An organization's marketing environment can be defined as: the actors and forces external to the marketing management function of the firm that impinge on the marketing management's ability to develop and maintain successful transactions with its customers (Kotler, 1997). Virtually all introductory textbooks in marketing reserve a section for an analysis of the macro environment (McCarthy, 1996). Thus, we aim to analyse the relevant macro environment for Smart Wash Company, so that we plan our marketing strategy and target the market in 2008. External environment The macro environment is generally categorized into demographic, political/legal, economic, cultural, technological and natural environments. The basic tenet is that what happens in the broader environment has significant implications for organizational functions (Mavondo, 1999). For example, McKee et al. (1989) found environmental turbulence to have a significant impact on marketing variables. The macro environment introduces a degree of homogeneity in a given industry through similarities in regulatory pressures, strategic alliances, human capital transfers, social and professional relationships and competency blueprints (Oliver, 1997). Environmental variation has been shown to impact on strategy (Hrebiniak & Joyce, 1985) and...

...If I was the Chief Marketing Officer at India Cements: The reason for choosing a cement firm (India cements) is that cement is a commodity for which the profit making in a large scale company is fundamentally dependent on its marketing abilities. In India Cements, marketing is the mainstay which primarily governs the profit making capacity of the company. Factors like quality, price, variety in the product, etc., matter but might not play a vital role in gaining an edge over the market. Therefore capturing the cement market is entirely a matter of identifying the need or creating it and then making the product available at ease at the desired time. It's also important that we are able to cater to the quality and quantity demanded from our customer to obtain long term satisfaction thus ensuring loyalty among the customers, dealers and distributors. We need to be able to instill in the minds of them a notion that for us "Customer is truly the king".  India Cements - an overview : India cements is the 3rd largest manufacturer of cement in the country and largest producer of cement in South India. They are one of the oldest cement manufacturers in India, which started cement production in the year 1946, at Sankargarh in Tamilnadu. Since then it has setup a total of 9 plants with a capacity to produce about 14 million tons of cement per annum. India cements is the market leader with a market share of 28% in the south and is likely to rise to 35%. The company has access to limestone...

...I N T R O D U C T I O N According to Professor Dr. Lars Perner, “the environmental forces which affect the marketing process are most of the time uncontrollable by the organization and therefore the company should do the necessary to cope with these forces.” The marketing environment consists of all the players and forces outside marketing that influence the marketing management’s ability to develop and maintain successful relationships with its target customers. (ZainBooks, 2010) These environmental forces might affect directly or indirectly, sometimes both and it will create both opportunities for further growth or threats declining a company’s growth. Therefore a company should always keep an eye on its environmental forces and adopt quickly and better than its competitors according to the changes in the environmental forces in order to survive in the market and to grow further. Oman is a developing country and its market in general is in rapid growth, especially the Fast Food industry. This rapid growing industry does have influential marketing factors. Both the macro-environment and the micro-environment factors do affect the Fast Food industry in Oman. Some affect in larger percentage and some very minimal that it seems so invisible. Following are the seemingly active environmental forces shaping the Fast Food Industry in Oman: Micro Environment: Employees Customers Company Competitors Suppliers Shareholders Media The Company – The Company...
