For young children with disabilities, it is important for the proper identification, individualized program planning, and related support to be implemented. This process is crucial to the success of any child with a disability. Families must be included in this process (Yell, 2012). Teachers should find other ways to support families, as well. Children with hearing and vision impairments can be first observed in the sensorimotor stage of development. Children with vision impairment are commonly observed failing to reach for an object. Hooper and Umansky (2014) suggest that reaching for or obtaining an object that makes sound does not occur until the second year for children with vision impairments (Hooper and Umansky, 2014). For vision children can use an application to read items they cannot see on a device, magnify or enlarge text/images, and Braille systems (Bowden-Carpenter, Johnston, and Beard, 2014). There are many different options for assistive technology of children with vision impairments. In addition, there are devices for children with hearing impairments. For children with hearing impairments teachers can use amplifiers. Children may be prescribed hearing aids. To establish what device is best fit for the child the IEP team must do an assistive technology assessment (Bowden-Carpenter et al., 2014). Furthermore, a teacher must include other strategies for children with vision and hearing impairments. Children with vision and hearing impairment can benefit from sitting closer to the front of the classroom. Teacher should face the class when speaking; this allows children who lip-read to improve their understanding of directions and instruction. A teacher may try to talk slower to allow the child time to caught words she/he is trying to say. A child with a hearing impairment may use a sign language translator (Rose, 2012). ...Many individuals and seniors with marginal mobility, who have had hip or knee surgery, have arthritis or are handicapped, getting out of a seat requires a lot of trouble and causes a good negotiate of pain. The purpose of this project is to reverse engineer a consumer product to accommodate any sort of disability. Our team has decided to create a transfer assist device helping make up for certain physical limitations caused by arthritis and help eliminate some of the stress and strain on joints when the user goes from sitting to standing position or vice versa. The motivation for this problem came from personal experience of a team member and the need to enhance the abilities, independence and quality of life of people with this disability. To approach this problem, the team initially identified the different types of disabilities and the needs and constraints associated with each.
