Empowering Your Organization

...six values identified by Gershon and Straub (2009), will be used as a tool to develop strategies to resolve these four issues of disempowerment. The Blame Game Hierarchy, inequality, and violence, in the history of mankind there has been a structure of those that lead and those that follow, the blessed and those that lament, hunters and prey. The world is a diverse place; therefore, different societal sects or cultures view and respond to difference in position/title, wealth and power, and capability in dissimilar ways. In the workplace this disparity can produce a phenomena referred to as “victim mentality.” This behavior is marked by an individual blaming everything and everyone for their failures and woes; with the individual assuming the role of victim, e.g., John who is chronically tardy to work is terminated. Instead of seeing his behavior as the catalyst for the loss of his position, the employee believes that the manager had a vendetta against his possible success and blames the manager for his termination. John refuses to accept accountability (Stem, 2012). Apathy and Burnout Those suffering from burnout can be classified as the “working wounded;” these individuals have lost their motivation and passion for their work as a...

Free Will vs Fate

...concepts as something to worry about since the beginning of civilization. Because of that, playwrights have taken them into consideration when writing different plays all over the years. This essay seeks to explore the tension existing between the concepts of destiny and free will in the world of drama through the study of language as well as the analysis of character and situation development. In order to carry this research out, I will take Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (429 BC) and Dr Faustus by Christopher Marlowe (1604) as the basis for the analysis. Although the plays were written in different eras and consequently were inspired by very different social and historical backgrounds, the limits between destiny and free will play a very important role in both of them. But how does drama manage to explore this tension? How do playwrights convey the paradox that exists between destiny and free will? Over the course of...

Orabona 4, Bari 70125, Italy Abstract In transportation management the measure of systems efficiency is a key issue in order to verify the performances and propose the best countermeasure to achieve the prefixed goals. Many efforts have been made in this field to provide satisfactory answer to this problem. One of the most used methodologies is the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) that has been in many fields. The DEA technique is a useful is non-parametric method that allow to handle many output and input at the same time. In many real world applications, input and output data cannot be precisely measured. Imprecision (or approximation) and vagueness may be originated from indirect measurements, model estimation, subjective interpretation, and expert judgment or available information from different sources. Therefore, methodologies that allow the analyst to explicitly deal with imprecise or approximate data are of great interest, especially in freight transport where available data as well as stakeholders’ behavior often suffer from vagueness or...

It is also possible to use a combination of the two overall methods. Under the cash method, income is reported when it is received and deductions are taken when the expense is paid. The accrual method requires income to be reported when all the events necessary to fix the right to receive payment have occurred and there is reasonable certainty regarding the amount. Likewise, accrual basis taxpayers usually claim a deduction in the year in which all events that fix the liability have occurred, provided the amount of the liability is reasonably determinable.
