Online Shopping

...Australian consumers are embracing digital commerce, but Australian retailers are failing to build long-term relationships with their customers online, according to new research. More than 50 per cent of Australians have been described as “digital buyers” who prefer to “buy online where possible”, a statistic that puts Australians among the top digital consumers in the world. But the Australian retail sector is late to the party. A recent Deloitte survey found that “Australian retailers are going digital at a snail’s pace”. More than 50 per cent of respondents expect to generate less than 2 per cent of their Christmas sales online. And while David Jones’ 1,000 per cent quarterly increase in online sales recently made headlines, this increase comes from a very low base, with digital commerce now accounting for a mere 1 per cent of the retail giant’s total sales figure. From a warehouse in California NAB’s Online Retail Sales Index puts the proportion of online retail at 6.3 per cent of bricks and mortar consumer retail spending. But recent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics should worry local retailers: Australian consumers spend more money online with overseas retailers than with their domestic counterparts. Australian retailers have to come to grips with the new reality of a global marketplace and strong competition from overseas internet giants like Amazon or fashion retailer ASOS. Easy access, convenience and price transparency of digital...

Cosmetics Market in China

...MKTG203: Assignment 1 Thursday7.00_MR_17 New trends in consumer behaviour and brand personality have gained increased global attention, particularly in cosmetic products. This report will critically analyse the rapidly growing beauty and cosmetics market in China through the consumer behaviour concepts of consumer materialism and brand personality. Both of these aspects will be examined in relation to the similarities and differences present within the Australian and Chinese context. By exploring these two essential concepts of consumer behaviour, the report will highlight China’s growing interests and demands for imported skincare and beauty products, as well as a potential marketing opportunity for Australian cosmetic companies such as Aēsop. Background With an estimated worth of $19.49 billion, the cosmetic market is one of the largest industries stimulating the Chinese economy today (Datamonitor, 2013). A substantial growth of 18.7% in 2012 and a forecasted growth of 48.7% by 2017 (Euromonitor, 2013), has enabled the nation to become Australia’s largest trading partner including other Australian exports. Due to its dominant presence in the world economy, the general level of per capita income has increased progressively with minor improvements in chronic income inequalities between rural and urban populations in China. With higher disposable incomes and the endless choices in distinct cosmetics, many individuals are now seeking high-value...

Market Situation of Bardot

...2.1 Current Market Situation 2.1.1 Overview of the Market r Following the economic downturn as a result of the Global Financial Crisis the TCF Industry has been affected by the shift in consumer spending behaviour. With high petrol prices and the threat of rising interest rates, consumers became savvier about their spending with private savings rates expected to reach its highest point since 1984 (Lohan, 2011). However, the strong Australian dollar, government stimulus package and falling unemployment rates resulted in an estimated annual growth over the past five years of 0.8% to reach $12.3 billion in 2011. Real household disposable income is also expected to grow by 3.6% in 2010-11 and consumer sentiment is forecasted to increase as a result (Lohan, 2011). Household consumption expenditure is expected to increase by 3.3% over the year and industry revenue is anticipated to grow at a modest rate of 1.0% in 2010-11 (Lohan, 2011). However uncertainty surrounding the global economy suggests that consumers are expected to save 0.3% of their income (Lohan, 2011). Strong job security and an improved local financial outlook should support consumer confidence for the years ahead, reflecting this new climate, industry revenue is expected to grow over the next five years at an annualised rate of 1.7% to reach $13.4 billion in 2015-2016 (Lohan, 2011). 2.1.2 Market segmentation 2.1...

British Influence on Austrlaina Cultrue

...British influence on the Australian culture British settlers arrived in Australia in 1788 and the extent of the British influence is still evident today. The British Union Jack features predominantly on our national flag and the Queen is Australia's Head of State. British models also form the basis of Australia's legal and political systems, as well providing our national language. Up until World War II, Britain remained the dominating cultural influence in Australia. Britons also dominated the make-up of Australian society - most of Australia's citizens were either born in Britain, or had British descendants. In the years following the war, British subjects were encouraged to migrate to Australia under an 'assisted package' scheme, which helped with the cost of migrating to Australia and provided housing and employment options upon arrival. Between 1945 and 1972, over one million British migrants settled in Australia. Before 1945, many people, including Australians themselves, considered Australia to be nothing more than a British colony; a nation whose national identity was relatively indistinct from the British. During this period of Australia's history, our modes of entertainment, food, fashion, sporting culture and our social values and attitudes were largely dictated by British culture. American influence on the Australian culture One of the most significant changes to have taken place in Australian society since the end of WWII, however, has been its drift towards...
